Chapter 26
This time, the footsteps were denser, and there were even more people.
My father wiped his eyes with his sleeve, slowly drew his blade, and faced the other side of the passage.
The footsteps quickly scattered.
“Cheng Jin! Cheng Jin, where are you?!” The urgency and worry in the voice was clear to anyone.
My heart skipped a beat. Chen Yi?
Chen Yi had already rushed up to me, so my father’s blow didn’t land-he had already recognized him.
Chen Yi’s face was somewhat pale, the corners of his eyes slightly red.
A few strands of hair at his temples had come loose, and there was a large tear in the front of his collar.
His fists hung at his sides, but in the end, he couldn’t hold back and raised his hand to grip my shoulders.
“Cheng Jin, are you alright?”
Almost at the same moment, my father’s voice sounded, “Eighth Prince?”
My eyes widened.
A trace of guilt flashed across his face, and he nodded to my father.
He was quick-witted; a single glance around told him what had happened.
Chen Yi-no, Pei Yi-turned back and said softly to me, “Go find a place to stay for now. If I can return, I’ll come find you. If I can’t, take them to the Northern Frontier.”
He waved his hand, and four robust Death Warriors stepped out from behind him.
“Eighth Prince, what has happened in the Imperial City?” my father asked gruffly.
“The Prince of Chu has raised the banner of rebellion and is now confronting the Crown Prince.”
My father was a bit stunned. “Then, then we should hurry to support the Crown Prince.”
Pei Yi was about to turn and leave, but suddenly caught sight of the armor on my father’s body.
“Zhonglang General, did you return to the capital with your men today?”
My father hastily confirmed, but then recalled that he had led troops to break into the prison and felt a little guilty.
He quickly glanced at me.
Pei Yi pretended not to notice. “The times are pressing. Zhonglang General, are you willing to join me and claim a share of the rewards?”
