Chapter 12
I was in a great mood, so much so that when the steward brought in a maid, I was humming a tune.
Steward Liu said, “From now on, you are the Young Lady. The Eldest Young Master said this maid committed an offense, and you may deal with her.”
I glanced over and realized it was Cui’er.
Cui’er was close to Azi; she was the one who informed the princess.
Cui’er cried and begged me not to send her away.
I crouched down, gently wiping her tears with a handkerchief, speaking softly:
“I’m afraid the princess will think you deliberately deceived her and won’t let you go. It’s not safe to stay in a place of trouble for long; I’ll send you home first.”
Cui’er thanked me profusely.
At the long pavilion, I stabbed her in the heart and then casually pushed her into the river.
It was done in one swift motion, taking only two breaths.
Watching Cui’er sink and float, finally becoming fish food in the river, I couldn’t help but smile.
I am a liar, after all. How could anyone trust my words?
Shen Yunian was working at the office, and even Steward Liu, who was accustomed to bloodshed from working with him, couldn’t help but widen his eyes: “This, this… her crime wasn’t worthy of death.”
I wiped the knife and sighed:
“She has been in the Shen Mansion for years, and Azi was bought over after just a few days. Today, she can betray the Shen Family for a few silver coins; who knows what she might say to the princess tomorrow?”
“She wants the Shen Family dead, and that’s not worthy of death?”
Steward Liu pondered and fell silent.
I share my fate with the Shen Family; harming them is harming me.
That cannot be allowed!
