Chapter 10
The moment the scarf tightened around Azi’s neck, she snapped awake, her eyes wide with shock. Before she could grasp the situation, she cursed viciously:
“You little whore, are you courting death? How dare you lay a hand on me!”
I chuckled coldly, “Do you know what it means to be insatiably greedy, like a snake trying to swallow an elephant?”
In the next instant, the sound of her neck cracking echoed.
I tightened my grip, the scarf digging into her flesh, and Azi’s eyes rolled back.
With her last breath, my voice slipped through clenched teeth, both vengeful and satisfied, “During the Qingming Festival, I’ll remember to burn some paper money for you.”
Azi collapsed, lifeless.
After finishing the deed, I wiped my hands clean.
“Miss Yuan, what a skillful move.”
A deep voice suddenly resonated.
My blood ran cold, and my fingers instinctively dug into my palms.
The moonlight at the alley’s entrance was obscured by a tall figure. Shen Yunian stood with his hands behind his back, his gaze inscrutable, the mole beneath his eye glaringly red.
He had caught me.
At that moment, I knew it was time to put on a show.
My face turned pale, and with trembling lips, I recounted how Qi Yu had favored Azi.
“Eldest Young Master, please understand, I had no choice. Everyone knows the princess is notoriously jealous and cruel, and she’s infatuated with the Prince Consort. If she were to find out about this disgraceful incident involving the Prince Consort at our residence, she wouldn’t let it slide.”
I choked up at just the right moment, “I… I’m afraid of implicating the Shen Family and jeopardizing the Eldest Young Master’s career…”
“My life is worthless, I’m not afraid of taking the blame, I just want the Shen Family to remain unharmed.”
This was the truth, so it wasn’t really a lie.
Shen Yunian’s eyes darkened, and after a long silence, he spoke, “Handle it cleanly.”
I nodded, “Yes.”
I breathed a sigh of relief. Even though he might have doubts about me, in this situation, we had to deal with the biggest problem first.
As his footsteps faded away, I wiped my face and swiftly dragged Azi’s body elsewhere.
I had slaughtered pigs before, and Azi wasn’t heavier than a pig.
This task, I knew well!
