I Accidentally Sent My Boss a Message Meant for My Best Friend - Chapter 2
Chapter 2
I thought the whole thing would remain a private mistake—one nobody else knew about—and quietly fade away.
The next morning, I arrived at the office while Qin Lie was giving a presentation with the PowerPoint I’d prepared. As his assistant, I sat in one of the chairs along the edge of the conference room and fought to keep my eyes open.
Then a murmur from the conference table jolted me awake.
I looked up. Everyone was pointing at the presentation screen and whispering among themselves.
I looked again.
Oh, no.
I had transferred the PowerPoint through WeChat. Somehow, the chat between my best friend and me was now open on the screen.
“Guess who got President Qin to come out with a single message~”

Best Friend: “Not bad, babe. Qin Lie is famous in our circle for having zero interest in women.”
Best Friend: “If you can land him, you’ll be a legend!”
Me: “They say the pinker a man’s fingertips are, the rougher he is in bed. And Mr. Qin’s hands—hee-hee.”
Me: “Once, I accidentally spilled something on him. His shirt got wet, and I could see the outline of his abs.”
Me: “A full eight-pack!”
Me: “I’ve fantasized about him for so long, and now my moment has finally come~ Do you think he’s been secretly in love with me? What if he forces me to marry him? Hahahahahaha.”

The full, mortifying truth of my delusions was on display.
I could feel countless scorching gazes trained on me.
Including Qin Lie’s. His dark eyes lifted from the laptop in front of him, unmistakable shock in their depths, and settled on my face.
Whoosh—
Heat shot all the way to the tips of my ears.
This was so humiliating!
Qin Lie coughed softly and closed the chat window he’d opened by mistake.
If a hole had appeared in the floor, I would have dived into it without hesitation.
“Let’s move on to the main agenda.”
But perhaps I imagined it—the faintest hint of a smile seemed to brush his lips.
That meeting lasted an eternity.
Everywhere I looked, people were sneaking glances at me. Some mocked, some sneered, and some simply waited for the show to begin.
When the meeting ended, I lowered my head and hurried out without looking back.
“Someone like her has the nerve to dream about President Qin? What a joke.”
“Does she have any idea who he is?”
“If Miss Wen finds out, she’s finished.”
Two colleagues walked behind me, gossiping without the slightest attempt to lower their voices.
I could only pretend not to hear.
The worst part was that they were right. I had been reaching far beyond my station.
I smacked myself on the mouth. This was what I got for shooting it off and thirsting after him so shamelessly.
Every second in the assistants’ office afterward was torture.
At lunchtime, I picked up the meal I’d ordered for Qin Lie and approached his office hesitantly. The door stood slightly ajar. Behind his desk, he reclined on a black leather sofa with his eyes closed.
Wonderful. He was asleep.
All I had to do was slip inside, set down his lunch, and sneak back out. No awkward conversation required.
I walked toward him. His eyes were closed, his head tilted against the backrest. His legs were crossed and one hand rested on the arm of the sofa, fatigue faintly visible on his face.
The top two buttons of his white shirt were undone, exposing a sliver of collarbone. Loose strands of hair shadowed his brows.
I swallowed.
God, I wanted to sleep with him.
No.
What was wrong with me?
I gently set down the lunchbox and turned to tiptoe away.
His deep voice sounded behind me.
“Close the door on your way out.”
My entire body stiffened. A chill crawled up my back.
“Y-yes, Mr. Qin.”
Run!
“Wait.”
That voice stopped me again.
I turned around with a performance of calm while screaming internally.
Oh God. Was he going to fire me? Dock my pay?
“Is there anything else you need, Mr. Qin?”
He had already sat up and was leafing through the documents in front of him.
“I’m sorry. I opened it by accident.”
Why did he have to bring it up again?
I wanted the ground to swallow me whole. And why was he apologizing? Did he have to be such a gentleman about it?
I forced out a smile more miserable than tears.
“It’s all right, Mr. Qin.”
His eyes were lowered, hiding his expression.
“One more thing. Keep your mind on your work from now on.”
For some reason, my heart sank.
“Yes, sir.”
