Chapter 12
At this moment, the boundary between the story and reality blurred.
The characters who were supposed to exist only in the story appeared vividly before him. Why? Could it be that the tale of murder was true…
A chill climbed up Zhou Ye’s spine. He felt as though he had fallen into a meticulously woven trap.
The bowl of braised noodle soup that had conquered his taste buds was made by his girlfriend’s own hands.
From an old maroon-colored braising jar, she deftly fished out a chunk of meat, dark red and almost black, with her chopsticks. While it was still steaming, she chopped it into tiny pieces, added some fresh scallions, and the aroma was so enticing it made his mouth water.
“Baby, your cooking is better than our five-star chefs.”
Every time, he would finish the bowl, soup and all, leaving it spotless. His girlfriend would then smile meaningfully and say, “Really? This braising sauce was passed down from my mom. It’s a secret recipe, aged for years. Of course, it’s different from anything outside.”
Years of braised delicacies… Zhou Ye’s head spun, his stomach clenched, and waves of nausea surged within him. He couldn’t possibly accept the idea that the person he shared his bed with might be a murderer.
Even if it was out of desperation-he couldn’t accept it!
Zhou Ye immediately called his secretary, his voice frantic: “Check An Rui’s family background from fifteen years ago.
“Especially… her father’s. Hurry!”
In the living room, I was chatting with Granny Zhang. She sat stiffly on the edge of the sofa. “The village flooded, and the road to the train station got blocked. I missed your big day…”
Zhou Ye had always disliked dealing with my relatives from the countryside, but today, he was acting completely out of character, asking all sorts of questions. As he passed by Granny Zhang, the teacup in his hand slipped and fell.
If I hadn’t been quick to react, that cup of hot water would have spilled all over the elderly woman.
He kept probing her. “Granny Zhang, you really can’t see anything at all?”
The unsuspecting old woman replied, “That’s right. Cataracts. I can barely see anything. This time, it was thanks to my nephew bringing me to the city. An Rui wanted me to come for surgery, but oh, at my age, why waste the money?”
Seeing Zhou Ye’s overly tense expression, I couldn’t help but stifle a laugh. After sending Granny Zhang off, I wrapped my arms around his waist from behind and smiled meaningfully.
“Honey, you don’t actually believe that story, do you?”
