Chapter 11
“After that, I went to Beijing for my studies, received a public scholarship to study abroad, worked, met you, and the rest you already know. This is my secret.”
In the romantic bridal chamber, Zhou Ye’s expression turned peculiar. He stared at me like that, his gaze filled with suspicion.
My love story with Zhou Ye could be described as dramatic.
We met at a ski resort during a cable car accident.
Zhou Ye has claustrophobia, and out of necessity, I had to support him through his episode as we trekked to find help.
Earlier during the wedding banquet speech, Zhou Ye mentioned the first time he visited my home.
“Once, after flying back to the country for over ten hours, An Rui picked me up and brought me home. She made me a steaming bowl of braised noodle soup. I used to be unsettled, waking up in a different hotel every day, living a life floating in the clouds. But at that moment, watching her busy in the kitchen, I felt a sense of security I had never experienced before.
“There are too many people who want something from me, and I can spot them in an instant. But Anan, I know you only want me for who I am.”
Tears welled up in my eyes as I covered my face.
His sweet words still echoed in my ears, yet within just two hours, Zhou Ye instinctively avoided my kiss.
The romantic atmosphere of the newlywed night was utterly shattered.
I was about to explain when the servant knocked on the door with urgency, “Madam, guests from your hometown have arrived.”
As I went out to greet the guests, Zhou Ye glanced over nervously but only briefly.
That single glance froze him in place.
In the living room stood an old woman, weary from her travels.
She had a pair of pale, blind eyes.
