Chapter 5
After adding Lu Xiao on WeChat, I didn’t dare bother the young master, and I certainly didn’t dare delete him. I just let his name sit quietly in my contacts list.
The day after my bestie’s birthday, I had the day off.
My elementary school-aged niece came over to play. As soon as she got here, she demanded my phone. I handed it over and went to the kitchen to make her lunch.
“Auntie, I want to play Candy Crush.”
“You can download it yourself, sweetie.”
“Auntie, why don’t you have an insta-liker on your WeChat? It’s not cool at all.”
Thinking “insta-liker” was some new game, I didn’t even look up from my cooking.
“If you want one, you can download it.”
“Okay~”
My niece happily went back to playing on my phone.
After she left, I didn’t bother deleting the pile of games she had downloaded, figuring she could play them next time she visited.
A week went by, then two…
One day, my bestie and I were out for dinner when she asked me a strange question.
“Lin Ting, have you had a lot of free time lately?”
“Not at all, I’ve been swamped.”
“Then how come you’re the first person to like my posts every single time? Even when I post in the middle of the night, you’re the first. It’s like you’re just sitting there waiting for me to post. If I didn’t know better, I’d think you had a secret crush on me.”
“Huh?”
I was baffled.
“I don’t think so. I’ve been so busy I haven’t even had time to look at my feed. How could I have liked your posts?”
“That’s weird. Did you accidentally turn on one of those auto-liker apps?”
Auto-liker?
I remembered my niece mentioning something like that.
Oh.
So it wasn’t a game.
“Yeah, my niece must have accidentally turned it on when she was using my phone. I’ll turn it off right now.”
I quickly opened WeChat and disabled the auto-liker program.
Finally, no more instantly liking everyone’s posts.
But two days later, Lu Xiao, who had been a silent presence in my contacts, suddenly sent me four very abstract words.
[Playing hard to get?]
I stared at my phone, completely lost.
