Chapter 14
After we left the restaurant, my bestie gave me a mischievous grin and pushed me toward Lu Xiao.
“Brother Xiao, I’ll leave you two to talk. I’m heading out now. Make sure you get my bestie home safe!”
Lu Xiao gave a slight nod.
“Got it.”
I slowly looked up, meeting Lu Xiao’s eyes.
I felt the urge to lick my dry lips but stopped myself, afraid he’d accuse me of reeling him in again.
Instead, I handed him an unopened bottle of water.
Lu Xiao’s eyes twinkled. “For me?”
“No, I was hoping you could open it for me. I was trying for ages and couldn’t get it.”
I’d been eating for half an hour and was getting parched.
I frowned in frustration.
“…”
Lu Xiao twisted off the cap with what looked like zero effort.
“There.”
“Thank you.”
I took the bottle and chugged down a few mouthfuls. I’d been so thirsty that I drank too quickly. A little water trickled from the corner of my mouth down my neck, leaving a shiny trail.
Lu Xiao’s Adam’s apple bobbed up and down, as if he were swallowing.
My drinking slowed, and I remembered my bestie’s advice to be more proactive.
I slowly offered the bottle back to him, asking with concern, “Are you thirsty too?”
“…Yeah.”
“Then you should have some.”
“…”
Lu Xiao lifted his gaze, a smile playing in his dark eyes.
He took the bottle, his lips touching the same spot mine had just been.
“Alright.”
He drank quickly, his throat moving as he swallowed.
I understood.
See?
He was thirsty too.
