Good Night, Mr. Ghost - Chapter 6
Jiang didn’t quite know what Mr. Ghost was thinking, but he figured it was time to cook and eat.
Despite having a ghost in the house, it didn’t seem to affect his daily routine.
Jiang cooked his meal, and while holding his bowl, he asked Mr. Ghost, “Do you want some?”
Mr. Ghost handed him a few incense sticks.
Jiang understood-ghosts eat incense.
So, Jiang lit the incense, letting Mr. Ghost enjoy the smoke while he ate his meal.
Out of courtesy, Jiang asked, “Do you want to watch something?”
Meng Loudi thought for a moment, picked up the remote, and switched to a channel.
A comedy show was playing, perfectly matching Jiang’s taste.
Jiang, being a bit of a simpleton, didn’t even question how a ghost who just arrived at his house knew his favorite shows.
He simply assumed Mr. Ghost liked them too.
Jiang ate his meal, laughing as he watched, while Mr. Ghost leaned against the sofa, watching the young man’s profile.
It was quite a sight.
This person was glowing.
Of course, that was just Meng Loudi’s personal filter.
After finishing his meal and happily washing the dishes, Jiang dove into the world of gaming.
Mr. Ghost followed him, sitting on the bed.
Jiang felt a bit uncomfortable, shifting around, and suggested, “Why don’t you go watch TV or something? Since we’re going to live together, let’s be casual.”
Meng Loudi took Jiang’s hand, placed it on his face, and shook his head.
Jiang awkwardly pulled his hand back, thinking, “If you don’t want to, just say so. Why make me touch your face?”
“Uh, then just watch me play,” Jiang said, oblivious to his lack of awareness, and started gaming.
Mr. Ghost occasionally took Jiang’s hand, reminding him of his presence.
Jiang was baffled but didn’t know what to say.
Maybe Mr. Ghost was excited to find someone who could touch him and talk to him, so he wanted some attention?
With this thought, Jiang began narrating his game, which wasn’t much different from his usual self-talk while gaming.
“Mr. Ghost, look, I’m playing as a healer this time…” Jiang rambled on.
Mr. Ghost sat on the bed, watching him.
The night passed quickly, and Jiang was almost dehydrated from talking.
Mr. Ghost kindly offered him some cola.
It was a bit strange.
Jiang thought so.
Finally, at eleven o’clock, after finishing a game and about to start another, Mr. Ghost reached out and stopped him.
Jiang: “…”
What does this mean?
No more gaming?
Then what?
“What’s up? Do you want to play?” Jiang Chenyi thought this might be the case, perhaps Mr. Ghost was tempted after watching him play.
Mr. Ghost shook his head again, took Jiang’s phone, unlocked it, and found the search history on Baidu.
Is it possible to die suddenly if you sleep at midnight for a month?
How to stay healthy while staying up late?
What should you do if you can’t control the urge to stay up late-poke your eyes out?
Jiang: “…”
Does he have any dignity left?
Also, how did Mr. Ghost know he searched for these things?
Mr. Ghost ignored Jiang’s despair and dragged him to bed, turned off the computer, and switched off the lights.
Jiang stared blankly at the ceiling, feeling the bed dip beside him, and then the coolness enveloped him.
Jiang thought: I shouldn’t call him Mr. Ghost; I should call him “Cool.” Cool is so cute.
Cool is now enforcing sleep.
Is Cool looking out for his life?
Thinking this way, he felt touched.
Meng Loudi hugged the warm body, contentedly nuzzling him. He had wanted to do this before but couldn’t touch him. Now, he could fulfill those thoughts from before.
This person always searched for strange things but never followed through.
Now, he could make him follow through.
Jiang Chenyi thought for a moment, poked Cool, and asked, “Why are you hugging me?”
Even though, he was still a bit curious.
They’re both guys, but sleeping together?
Uh, it seems a bit off.
Meng Loudi grabbed his finger, placed it on his lips, and moved.
He repeated the action several times.
Jiang Chenyi tried to remember the movement of his lips and mimicked it, “Warm?”
Mr. Ghost nodded and hugged him tighter.
Jiang Chenyi felt it was okay; after all, it was quite warm now. If Mr. Ghost hugged him like this, he wouldn’t need to turn on the fan.
Thinking about it, he got sleepy, and the young man wrapped his arm around the other’s waist and drifted off.
Meng Loudi touched the warm face and smiled.
So cute.
Once the human and ghost decided to coexist peacefully, everything seemed to become incredibly pleasant.
Especially when Jiang woke up in the morning to find breakfast already laid out on the table.
Indeed, cohabitation has its perks!
Jiang: “Thanks, buddy!”
Fried eggs, slices of bread, even with salad dressing.
Of course, these were all taken from Jiang’s fridge.
After finishing breakfast and hugging Mr. Ghost goodbye, Jiang happily went to work.
Meng Loudi looked around the room, realizing that to win over a living person, the key was to make them unable to live without him.
How does one make a man fall for him?
Mr. Ghost pondered, having only seen others try to please, never having done it himself.
The current era seemed different from the decadent and flourishing era he knew.
Now, he could only exert influence in this small space?
So, Mr. Ghost tossed the human’s clothes, which had been lying around for days, into the washing machine.
He had seen the young man operate it before; his mimicry skills were strong, requiring no extra practice.
Mr. Ghost thought for a moment, realizing the young man hadn’t told him his name yet.
But it didn’t matter; when the time came, they could exchange names.
Meng Loudi smiled brightly.
He wasn’t sure what had changed, but something peculiar seemed to have happened.
This morning, Jiang didn’t make breakfast and happily went to work.
Yi-Jie was sitting in the lobby, munching on sunflower seeds, and upon seeing the young man with a spring in his step, she called out, “Hey, hey, hey! Jiang, come here!”
“What’s up, sis?” Jiang obediently walked over.
Wang Yi scrutinized the boy and smiled, “Oh, you’ve blossomed, huh? Is it that guy who pinched your cheek? How’s it going, have you made it official?”
Jiang Chenyi was taken aback, his ears turning red. He touched his ear and said, “No, it’s just something good happened this morning.”
“What good thing?”
“Someone treated me to breakfast.”
Wang Yi frowned, looking unimpressed, “What’s so great about that? Breakfast doesn’t cost much.”
“But I’m happy,” Jiang replied with a smile, happily heading to his classroom.
Waking up to a steaming breakfast and a cool embrace was quite nice, now that he thought about it.
No wonder everyone likes finding partners, adopting cats and dogs.
This warm feeling is something you can’t get alone.
Maybe, considering a man isn’t such a bad idea?
Jiang pondered deeply about life.
After all, it seemed quite nice?
Jiang Chenyi beamed, and his students sensed something different.
Today, he was tutoring sixth graders in math. It wasn’t difficult, and there weren’t many students, just ten kids.
“Teacher Jiang, are you in love?” a little girl asked while working on a problem.
The other nine little heads turned to look at Jiang Chenyi.
“Ah, no, I’m not in love,” Jiang Chenyi replied helplessly, “Don’t talk about that, focus on your studies.”
These little rascals weren’t easy to fool.
“But Teacher Jiang keeps smiling foolishly today.”
“Sometimes he even spaces out.”
“He must be in love, just like my sister!”
Jiang Chenyi coughed, “No, but I did have some good luck today.”
“What kind of luck?!” the little brats asked excitedly.
“If you finish all your problems, I’ll tell you,” the young man said with a smile.
“Okay!”
Once there’s a carrot dangling, these little ones become very motivated.
Jiang Chenyi used the same answer he gave Yi-Jie to pacify them.
The kids frowned, dissatisfied with the answer.
“Tsk~ What kind of answer is that!”
“Alright, class dismissed.”
Jiang Chenyi ignored the complaining kids, picked up his clothes, and left.
He seemed to be looking forward to going home.
The thought of someone waiting for him at home made his heart swell, warm and full.
The young man sped all the way, rushing to the old apartment building, taking two steps at a time up the stairs, and just as he was about to ring the doorbell, the door opened.
Jiang Chenyi was surprised.
He suddenly remembered those cute pet videos he had seen, where little cats and dogs waited eagerly at the door for their owners to return.
Dogs would lie by the door, waiting.
Cats would find a spot they liked and stare at the door.
Suddenly, he felt a pang of emotion.
Jiang walked forward, hugging Mr. Ghost, and kicked the door shut.
“I’m sorry.”
Meng Loudi was taken aback, gently patting the other’s back, wondering what was wrong.
He wanted to ask, but his voice couldn’t reach the other’s ears.
Jiang Chenyi lifted his head, touched his face, and said, “Let’s get a cat or a dog, okay?”
He smiled and explained, “That way, you won’t be lonely.”
Meng Loudi thought for a moment and shook his head.
“Don’t want to?” Jiang Chenyi was surprised, “Won’t you feel bored?”
Mr. Ghost shook his head again.
He had been lonely for so long, a little more time didn’t matter. Having a part of the young man’s time made him feel very content.
Jiang was surprised, realizing that perhaps, like him, the other had grown accustomed to solitude.
But the young man pursed his lips, hoping that from now on, he wouldn’t be so lonely.
Living together, the future now held a sense of anticipation.
The young man pushed Mr. Ghost away, smiling, “Alright then, I respect all your choices.”
Meng Loudi was pushed aside, watching the young man walk into the kitchen.
He followed him eagerly.
Jiang felt the cool presence trailing behind him, and his lips curled into a smile. This Mr. Ghost was really like a golden retriever waiting at home.
Warm-hearted and warm-bodied.
