Good Night, Mr. Ghost - Chapter 50
The woman clapped her hands, “Since everyone is here, let’s sit down and eat. It’s not polite to keep the guests waiting.”
Her jade bracelet shimmered, accentuating the beauty of her fair skin.
Chen Zhiyan led the boy to the table.
Xiang’er quickly served everyone their meals and then stood by, ready to assist.
As the head of the household, Shen Baihe looked at the four of them, “Well then, let’s start eating.”
The dining room was quiet, with only the sound of utensils clinking.
The boy held his chopsticks, barely picking at the dishes, eating only the plain rice in his bowl, slowly, which made others feel uncomfortable.
Chen Zhiyan picked up the serving chopsticks and placed a piece of meat in the boy’s bowl, sternly saying, “Young master, you mustn’t be picky!”
The boy flinched and continued eating his rice timidly.
Shen Baihe observed this and chuckled softly, “Mr. Chen, don’t be too hard on our Yulou. If he doesn’t want to eat, he won’t starve.”
“That’s a bad habit, it shouldn’t be indulged,” the man replied, adding more vegetables to the boy’s bowl.
Jiang Chenyi watched the scene unfold, quietly eating his meal.
The woman picked up her chopsticks and placed a piece of fatty pork, rich with savory juices, into the young man’s bowl. “Here, brother, you should eat too.”
Jiang Chenyi looked at the fatty meat, feeling uneasy.
He didn’t eat fatty meat because he found the texture quite unpleasant.
But there was no choice; he had to eat it, as he couldn’t afford to offend Shen Baihe.
Just as he was about to put the meat into his mouth, the man beside him suddenly held his hand, gently turning it to bring the meat to his own lips.
His crimson lips parted, revealing snow-white teeth that bit into the meat, swallowing it.
Meng Loudi watched the young man’s astonished expression, licking his lips with a mischievous smile, “Thanks, Chenyi.”
Shen Baihe’s lips twitched at the scene, but she said nothing.
She didn’t know why, but she felt a bit afraid of her cousin.
Very afraid.
The young man’s face flushed instantly, and he looked down at his bowl, shoveling rice into his mouth to hide his embarrassment.
Meng Loudi noticed the redness of his ears and chuckled, picking up a piece of rib and placing it in the young man’s bowl, then slowly adding a few more dishes.
Jiang Chenyi stared at the rib, the mushrooms, and potatoes in his bowl, feeling a bit dazed.
These were all his favorite foods.
Meng Loudi held his chopsticks loosely, the tips stained with sauce, swaying them in the air, “Sister, you don’t mind, do you? I’d like Chenyi to serve me some dishes.”
“What do you mean?” Shen Baihe’s face still carried a charming smile, seemingly unoffended.
Meng Loudi lowered his gaze, “It’s only fair, isn’t it? Also, sister, you should call him Mr. Jiang instead of Chenyi. Being so familiar might lead to misunderstandings, don’t you think? Sister, you’re the second young madam of the Cui Family. Even though your husband has been gone for years, you must be cautious with your words and actions, right?”
His dark eyes looked at the woman whose face had turned pale, full of mockery.
“Sister, are you full?”
Shen Baihe picked up a handkerchief and gracefully wiped her lips, “Yes, I’m full. You all take your time. Ling’er, prepare my things; I’m going out for tea.”
The woman beside her nodded, “Yes, madam.”
The two left.
The dining room fell into silence once more.
Jiang Chenyi awkwardly held his chopsticks, staring at his bowl, unsure of what to say.
Cui Yulou slowly ate his rice, while Chen Zhiyan’s expression softened as he watched the boy.
Meng Loudi seemed completely unaware of his actions, as if he hadn’t just driven Shen Baihe away, and leaned closer to the young man, “Chenyi, feed me.”
Jiang Chenyi jolted, looking at the mischievous man, “That’s not appropriate.”
“Why not? Didn’t I just serve you plenty of dishes? Don’t you like them? Or do you only like the dishes that woman serves you?”
Meng Loudi squinted, still smiling, but the atmosphere around him had grown dangerous.
Jiang Chenyi shook his head, “No, they’re to my taste.”
But, how to say it, it felt a bit embarrassing.
“Then serve me some dishes. I served you dishes you like; what will you serve me?” Meng Loudi asked.
The young man swallowed, sensing the situation was precarious, but not serving Meng Loudi might be worse.
He was about to pick up the serving chopsticks to serve the man.
Those pale hands pressed down on his, slowly saying, “What are you doing, Chenyi?”
“Serving you dishes.”
“Ha, not with those chopsticks. I want you to serve me with your chopsticks.” Meng Loudi’s words carried a teasing tone, making Jiang Chenyi’s whole body heat up.
He could only pick up his own chopsticks, looking at the array of dishes on the table.
What did Meng Loudi like to eat?
His chopsticks picked up a piece of cauliflower and placed it in Meng Loudi’s bowl.
The man propped his chin, watching the young man’s actions, his smile unchanged, “Keep going.”
Jiang Chenyi looked at him, feeling this man was truly unpredictable, unable to understand what he was thinking.
Did he like it or not?
He wouldn’t say, just let people guess.
The young man’s chopsticks reached out again, picking up another piece of cauliflower and placing it in the man’s bowl.
Cui Yulou had finished his meal, and Chen Zhiyan had also finished quickly.
The child watched their actions, a hint of confusion in his eyes.
Chen Zhiyan looked at the two, “Young master, let’s return to the room.”
“Sir, what are they doing?” Cui Yulou asked softly.
Before Chen Zhiyan could answer, the lazy young man spoke, “You’re still young. You’ll understand when you grow up.”
“Mm.” The boy nodded, seemingly understanding, and followed Chen Zhiyan out of the dining room.
In that brief moment, Jiang Chenyi had already served Meng Loudi three or four pieces of cauliflower.
The man looked at the cauliflower in his bowl and chuckled, “Chenyi, why only cauliflower? I eat meat too.”
He looked at the somewhat awkward young man, “What’s wrong? Did I upset you? Is this your way of getting back at me?”
“No, it’s not like that.” Jiang Chenyi’s chopsticks paused, the cauliflower changing direction, heading towards his own mouth.
He just felt that, among the dishes on the table, Meng Loudi probably liked cauliflower the most.
No reason, just intuition.
The man pressed down on his hand, leaned over, and took the cauliflower, chewing it and swallowing, asking, “Then what is it?”
Jiang Chenyi felt he was suffocating, the cold fragrance from the man mixing with the aroma of the dishes, still so distinct.
“I just thought you liked it,” the young man said, blushing.
The man naturally released his hand, “Really? Then let’s switch it up. Only eating cauliflower would be dull, unlike liking someone, where you just keep liking them.”
He lazily looked at Jiang Chenyi, seemingly unaware his previous actions were a bit excessive.
The young man reached out his chopsticks, serving him a piece of rib, placing it in his bowl.
“Mm-this is good too,” the man said with a smile.
Jiang Chenyi sat uneasily on his chair.
He served the man a few more dishes.
Meng Loudi finally stopped him, “Alright, my bowl is full. Chenyi, eat your meal; no need to take care of me.”
He wore a shameless smile.
The young man was speechless.
Who was it that kept urging him to continue?
But now, in someone else’s territory, he naturally didn’t dare to act out, obediently eating his meal.
Meng Loudi looked at the dishes in his bowl, chuckling, “Really, all my favorite dishes. Chenyi, did you investigate, or have you been secretly observing me?”
Jiang Chenyi choked, surprised at the man’s shamelessness!
He swallowed his food, angrily looking at him, “I didn’t! Today is the first time I’ve met Mr. Meng!”
Meng Loudi looked at him, “Is that so? Quite a coincidence then. The dishes I served Mr. Jiang are all his favorites, and the dishes Mr. Jiang served me are all mine. Isn’t that a special kind of fate-don’t you think?”
With just a few words, the man was practically whispering in his ear.
Jiang Chenyi felt a tingling sensation, unsure if it was fear or something else.
A strange, tingling feeling deep inside.
“Please behave,” Jiang Chenyi said, lacking confidence, moving his chair slightly away.
Meng Loudi returned to his seat, sighing, “Really, so cold. Chenyi, I hope you’re just as cold when facing my sister. Otherwise, I’ll be upset. Understand?”
He leaned back lazily, as if making a simple suggestion, but his dark eyes carried a terrifying hue.
Jiang Chenyi felt a chill run through him; the man was serious.
If he dared to be overly familiar with Shen Baihe, something would definitely happen.
But, but…
The young man’s mind seemed to snap, and he softly said, “But I’m hired by Madam Shen, I have to listen to her.”
His tone carried a hint of cautious complaint and grievance.
Meng Loudi looked at him, smiling, “Hired? How much? I’ll give you ten times.”
Jiang Chenyi shrank under the man’s gaze, his lips trembling, “I can’t remember.”
“Ha? Alright, then remember this: when you do, tell me. Until then, don’t let me discover anything that displeases me,” the man warned.
Jiang felt aggrieved, pinching his fingers, “But if Madam Shen…”
“Tell her, if she wants to sleep with you, she should come to me. If she’s truly lustful, I’ll make her understand the consequences of crossing the line.” Meng Loudi’s face lost its smile, replaced by icy coldness.
Jiang Chenyi shivered at his expression, not daring to speak.
Well, that’s fine; he didn’t want anything to happen with Madam Shen anyway.
It always felt strange.
This man was strange too.
Not letting his cousin sleep with her kept man.
What’s the deal?
