Good Night, Mr. Ghost - Chapter 48
Jiang Chenyi lowered his gaze, saying, “Let’s check out the other rooms.”
“Not going to read the rest?” Meng Loudi asked.
There seemed to be more content in the diary.
Jiang bit his lip, hesitating, “Maybe we shouldn’t. What if we see something we shouldn’t…”
Honestly, he was really curious.
It was human curiosity and the urge to tempt fate driving him.
But if he continued reading, it might lead to something dangerous, right?
No, no, wrong, it might really be terrifying.
Mr. Ghost wasn’t interested in other people’s stories.
“Then let’s explore other places.”
They left the bedroom.
The diary was carefully placed back on the table.
Suddenly, a gust of yin wind flipped the diary open.
The content Jiang Chenyi decided not to read was revealed.
Jiang and Loudi entered a break room.
Everything was antique, with a dreamy atmosphere.
But the two corpses on the floor were anything but pleasant.
Jiang Chenyi stared at the two nearly decomposed bodies, falling silent.
Judging by now, there were at least four servants here.
Including what they had seen, there were already three corpses.
Mr. Ghost wasn’t disgusted; he crouched down to examine them, “Were they poisoned?”
Jiang cautiously leaned in, asking, “What are you looking at? How do you know they were poisoned?”
Mr. Ghost smiled gently, pointing at the two skeletons.
“Look, their clothes seem to have decomposed naturally, evenly scattered around. The bones show no signs of breaking, so they weren’t stabbed or hacked to death. Given the era, poisoning seems likely.”
Meng Loudi analyzed earnestly.
Jiang Chenyi was taken aback, oh right, this house had been around for over a hundred years.
But he looked at the ground, why were there still bits of flesh on the bodies?
After a hundred years, shouldn’t they be just bones?
Jiang was too embarrassed to ask Mr. Ghost, so he took out his phone, hoping to consult the vast internet.
No signal, great.
The young man calmly put his phone away.
“Loudi, why is there still flesh on them? Shouldn’t it be just bones?”
He had to ask.
This wasn’t a common knowledge question.
If Mr. Ghost dared to laugh, he’d make sure Mr. Ghost understood the importance of a man’s dignity.
Fortunately, Meng Loudi didn’t find it amusing, standing up after some thought, “Maybe because the haunted house is colder? So, even after a hundred years, they haven’t fully decomposed?”
Good, Mr. Ghost wasn’t sure either.
Jiang sighed, looking around, “Let’s go, it’s weird with two corpses here.”
“Alright.” Mr. Ghost’s cool fingers grasped the young man’s hand, like a protective beast guarding its cub, keeping him close.
They opened the door, finding themselves back at the entrance.
Jiang Chenyi looked around, “Did we just go in circles?”
“Seems like it. We’ve seen everything on the first floor, let’s head upstairs.”
Meng Loudi pulled his partner along.
As they stepped onto the stairs, something fell from above.
Mr. Ghost pulled the young man back, retreating from the stairs.
A foul-smelling, dark red liquid began to trickle down.
At first, it was a drop or two, then it flowed like a stream, rapidly descending.
Blood spread from the stairs, pooling on the floor.
Jiang Chenyi watched the blood, blinking.
Wow, this is pretty cool.
Turns out, fear has its limits.
Then the blood started dripping sparsely, one drop at a time.
The drops hit the pooled blood, making a chillingly crisp sound.
The white cloth bag peeked from the corner, softly saying, “You should leave.”
The young man looked at it, asking, “Why? What happened here?”
The cloth bag shrank back, watching them, timidly saying, “You’re not wrong, just leave.”
“We’re here to find the missing supernatural beings,” Meng Loudi said coldly, looking at the cloth bag.
The cloth bag shook its head, “You won’t find him. The sir won’t let you take them away. Leave quickly, once the master wakes, you won’t be able to leave.”
Mr. Ghost looked at it, asking, “Was it you who injured my subordinates?”
The cloth bag looked at him, suddenly laughing.
“Giggle, giggle, giggle, it wasn’t me, it wasn’t me, it was him, it was them! No, no, giggle, giggle, hide quickly, hide!”
The cloth bag laughed shrilly, turning to disappear around the corner.
And the flow of blood finally stopped.
Mr. Ghost eyed the blood blocking their path, then picked up the young man.
“Hey?!”
“You can’t touch these things, the yin qi is bad for you,” Mr. Ghost explained.
He strode forward, carrying Jiang Chenyi upstairs.
The young man held onto his shoulder, instinctively looking up.
What would be up there?
On the stair railing, a headless corpse was wedged, only the darkened severed neck visible.
Blood and white intertwined, emitting a sinister aura.
Jiang Chenyi: “…”
Oh my gosh, this is scarier than horror movies!
Where’s the head? Where’s the head?!
Mr. Ghost sensed the young man’s momentary stiffness, patting his back to soothe him.
Something capable of defeating a six-hundred-year-old fox spirit couldn’t be simple.
Were the captured supernatural beings used as food?
They reached the second floor safely.
And they saw the source of the blood-a female corpse with a graceful figure, showing no signs of decay.
Her skin still had a lively pink hue, dressed in a peach-colored qipao, limbs twisted on the floor.
As if she had just been killed.
Jiang Chenyi stepped onto the floor, dazed, questioning life.
“A bit scary…”
More than a bit scary, it’s truly terrifying!
Mr. Ghost touched his cheek, smiling gently, “Don’t be afraid, Chenyi, I’ll protect you.”
“Okay…” The young man nodded.
He trusted Mr. Ghost.
They looked around the second floor.
The layout was strange.
How to put it, it looked odd, but hard to pinpoint.
Doors, walls, all seemed to carry a peculiar aura.
A door was ajar.
The white bag was nowhere to be seen.
The young man’s heart raced within him.
Jiang Chenyi seemed to hear the pounding heartbeat through his veins.
Of course, it was just an illusion.
Mr. Ghost watched his anxious partner, reaching out to comfort him.
“Don’t worry, it’s all fake.” Childish, but surprisingly effective.
Jiang Chenyi looked at him, “I know if it’s fake or not.”
Quick, quick, let’s find that ghost, I’m a bit scared.”
“I’ll do my best,” Mr. Ghost said earnestly.
In a haunted house, even for him, finding the ghost’s whereabouts was difficult.
Finding that ghost would take time.
“Let’s check that out?”
The young man pointed to the ajar door.
No matter what, being open like that meant inviting them in, right?
“Sure.” Mr. Ghost wasn’t fazed.
They approached the door, Jiang extended a finger, cautiously poking it, and the door swung open.
With a creak, the contents inside slowly revealed themselves.
Mr. Ghost glanced around, covering the young man’s eyes with one hand, then snapped his fingers, illuminating the room.
Then, Mr. Ghost saw the light cord on the wall, pulling it open, normal light replaced the glow he created.
Jiang’s eyes were freed, and he saw everything inside.
Hmm, seemed normal.
A woman’s boudoir?
Dressing mirror, double-door wardrobe, soft sofa chairs, and a bed with draped curtains.
Luxurious decor, likely the owner’s room.
Mr. Ghost scanned the surroundings, finally focusing on one spot.
Jiang Chenyi looked at the faintly visible bed curtains.
Could there be another corpse on the bed?
Seemed possible.
The young man bit his lip, tugging Mr. Ghost’s hand, “Loudi, you go.”
“Hmm?”
“I’m scared.” Jiang looked aside, cheeks flushed.
He was indeed a bit scared.
Though his courage was decent, he was genuinely afraid something strange might jump out.
Meng Loudi watched his partner openly admit fear, stunned, then laughed.
“Oh, you’re so cute, Chenyi, how can you be so adorable?”
He mockingly covered his lips, revealing gentle yet mischievous eyes.
He reached out, teasingly brushing the young man’s hair, “So cute, is it intentional? Are you acting coy?”
Jiang Chenyi’s legs felt weak, he rubbed against Mr. Ghost’s fingers, mumbling, “I’m not acting coy, I’m just a bit scared now, a bit scared.”
“Got it, then hold onto my clothes tightly, I’m going to see what’s inside.” Mr. Ghost smiled.
Meng Loudi withdrew his hand, letting the young man grip his hem, and they walked over.
Meng Loudi didn’t blink, directly pulling back the bed curtains.
Unexpectedly clean.
Nothing on it.
Just the usual bedding, no blood, no corpse.
Jiang sighed in relief, but felt a bit disappointed.
Mr. Ghost watched his relieved partner, touching his earlobe, smiling, “Don’t relax, there might be something hidden elsewhere~”
He was definitely doing it on purpose!
Jiang stiffened momentarily, slowly looking back.
If anything was hidden, the most suspicious would be that double-door wardrobe, right?
Mr. Ghost watched his partner’s ghostly expression, nodding.
“Our Chenyi is smart, it’s in there.”
Jiang Chenyi: “…”
So annoying, Mr. Ghost wasn’t like this before.
Jiang really wanted to roll his eyes.
Mr. Ghost walked leisurely to the wardrobe, not forgetting to tease the young man.
“When I open it, no matter what appears, Chenyi, don’t scream.”
“…Why would I scream?” Jiang Chenyi said indignantly.
As if he were a little girl.
He could eat and critique horror movies at the same time!
“Ahhhhh!” Then, a piercing female voice exploded in the room.
Jiang Chenyi stared at the opened wardrobe, cold sweat instantly dripping, involuntarily stepping back.
Meng Loudi stood aside, eagerly watching the contents inside.
