Good Night, Mr. Ghost - Chapter 47
Mr. Ghost faced his lover’s skeptical gaze without flinching, “It wasn’t like this just now.”
“Hmph!” Jiang puffed his cheeks, showing his disbelief in this troublesome man.
Mr. Ghost glanced around and pointed at the dining table, “There was a woman lying there just now, she’s been dead for a long time.”
“But why isn’t she there now?” Jiang Chenyi felt the man wouldn’t be so bored as to scare him on purpose.
Mr. Ghost looked around, “Maybe turning on the light triggered the illusion? We just need to destroy the core object, and it will revert to how it was.”
As Mr. Ghost spoke, things around them began to shatter.
With a series of crisp sounds, everything that could be destroyed in the room was obliterated.
Even the furry carpet on the floor was torn apart with several ripping sounds.
Jiang: “…”
Where did things go wrong?
Could it be unfulfilled desires?
Hmm, Mr. Ghost was supposed to be a gentle and courteous person, so why resort to violence now?
But violence is quite an effective method.
The scene before them began to distort.
Then a completely different picture emerged.
The light remained gentle, but the scenery it revealed was far from gentle.
Everything else was as it was, still clean and tidy.
But on the dining table lay a woman, her flesh already decayed, exposing the stark white bones inside. On the table and the skeleton, there were some unidentified objects, black and fluffy.
As for why it was clear she was a woman, perhaps it was her long hair drifting not far from Jiang.
Even though the person had already rotted away, that head of black hair remained perfectly preserved.
Jiang tried hard to maintain a smile, keep smiling, nothing to be afraid of, right? It’s better than those bloody scenes in horror movies.
Just a corpse, that’s all.
Jiang Chenyi’s legs went weak, clinging to his man, his voice unknowingly carrying a sobbing tone.
“Loudi, uh.” The young man pitifully tugged at his clothes, like a timid little animal seeking shelter.
Jiang Chenyi, what kind of animal was he like?
Mr. Ghost began to let his thoughts wander, feeling that Chenyi was more like a little hedgehog.
The kind that seemed a bit sharp, but upon closer inspection, you’d find that the soft tips of the quills didn’t prick at all.
After the initial resistance and timidity were washed away by time, he would actively show his soft belly to those close to him, seeking comfort.
Meng Loudi patted the young man’s head, his voice gentle to the point of being frightening, “It’s okay, don’t be afraid, she won’t get up, she’s just a corpse.”
Hearing Mr. Ghost’s words, Jiang Chenyi became even more frightened.
What if, what if she really did get up?!
Whimpering, he didn’t want to stay here, his heart was about to jump out from fright.
But retreating now was too late.
Jiang Chenyi took a few deep breaths to calm himself down, then said, “So, shall we go over and take a look?”
Who knows what kind of problem the ghost here has, actually placing a corpse here.
The two walked over, Mr. Ghost seriously examining the corpse.
The woman’s corpse was beyond rotten, in her chest cavity, there was a small bulge, perhaps the heart.
A rusty kitchen knife was stuck in the abdomen.
The cause of death might be this.
But several bones were also broken.
“Looks pretty miserable,” Jiang commented calmly after regaining composure.
Although he didn’t know exactly what had happened, it looked quite tragic.
“Evil begets evil, good begets good, maybe she did something unforgivable.”
Mr. Ghost said lightly, pointing at the plate under the corpse, “But why throw a person onto the dining table? There seems to be food.”
Very strange.
Jiang swallowed, voicing his guess, “Maybe the ghost doesn’t appear because it wants us to see what happened here?”
“Perhaps. So, Chenyi, do we continue?”
“Let’s check out other rooms.”
They walked towards another closed door.
After the wooden door was opened and the two disappeared, the ajar door was gently pushed open.
A white cloth bag looked at everything in the room, paused when it saw the drifting black hair, then slowly closed the door again.
Jiang Chenyi and Meng Loudi entered another room, the kitchen.
There was no illusion here, everything was covered in dust, as if no one had been here for a long time.
There was no strange smell or rotting food.
It seemed to have been dealt with.
Nothing much to see, except in one corner of the room, there was a photo turned upside down.
The photo showed a plump woman with a head of black hair, smiling, looking very dignified.
She seemed like someone from a wealthy family, but it wasn’t certain what her status was.
If she was the owner, her clothes were simple; if she was a servant, could a woman who took black-and-white photos a hundred years ago really be a commoner?
The two continued on.
Opening another door, they saw three single beds, a window, and a low table.
It seemed to be the servants’ quarters, which indicated that besides the owner’s family, there were at least three servants.
Jiang didn’t plan to touch these people’s belongings.
They looked around casually and left.
Meng Loudi walked leisurely ahead, speaking as he went, “What do you want us to see?”
No response.
But Jiang knew Mr. Ghost was talking to the owner here.
Talking to the ghost hidden somewhere.
Thinking about it like this was a bit scary.
They pushed open another door, which was also a servant’s room, but seemed to be a more upscale single room.
The furniture was clean, and on the table lay an open, yellowed diary.
A very conspicuous notebook.
Jiang Chenyi looked at the diary, feeling it was a key clue.
But, something so blatantly placed there, shouldn’t be touched, right?
Mr. Ghost also saw the notebook and asked, “Want to take a look? Seems like a prop in an escape room game.”
Jiang took a step back, looking at his lover with wary eyes, “But we’re in a haunted house, what if something weird gets summoned?”
This isn’t a simple escape room game, but a haunted house escape!
“It’s okay, even if something does come out, I’ll protect Chenyi.” Mr. Ghost smiled.
Indeed, his Mr. Ghost seemed really strong.
With a strong backing, Jiang Chenyi looked at the diary again, swallowed, driven by the immense curiosity within, and walked over.
His hands trembled slightly as he picked up the diary, the words seemed to be written with a pen, some were blurred.
Mr. Ghost stood behind him, speaking softly, “So, Chenyi, let’s see what’s written inside.”
The young man opened the diary to the first page.
The handwriting was very neat, it seemed from the ink one could feel how serious and rigid the person who wrote these words was.
This diary seemed to be written during leisure time, intermittently, only recording the owner’s mood and doubts.
August 7, 1903.
Though somewhat laughable, I’ve indeed fallen into the position of a servant.
Perhaps I look very cultured and educated, the elderly lady hired me as a caregiver for a child.
Today is my first day on the job.
Seeing that child, really not likable, so weak, tsk.
The others seem decent enough.
Once I save enough money, I’ll go to a higher institution.
Hope everything goes smoothly.
August 8, 1903.
Though I’m the child’s caregiver, his aunt seems to dislike me being near him.
Maybe because I’m new.
That noble madam is a bit odd.
Perhaps because she lost her husband early and has to rely on others?
Really, but the cook’s food is still delicious.
That child, tsk, really spoiled, even picky at the table, picking and choosing, annoying.
So weak, lacking the manners of a noble offspring.
……
September 3, 1903.
That child… sometimes looks at me with a very strange gaze.
Really hard not to notice.
Speaking of which, isn’t Madam Shen too odd?
Moreover, I found that child has injuries, what’s going on?
The household servants are also strange, seem to be guarding against me, is there something they don’t want me to discover?
……
October 13, 1903.
Finally able to confirm, these people are too much!
When the child’s parents return, I’ll definitely tell them about this!
His parents, have they never noticed this?!
So irresponsible!
That, that child, really too pitiful, too lovable, how could anyone not feel compassion?
Jiang looked at this page, pointing at the first line, “Does he mean? That child was abused?”
Looking at the diary’s records, Jiang could see this point.
At least, in the owner’s diary, it was subtly pointed out.
Mr. Ghost looked at the young man’s pink-white fingertips, casually nodded, “Perhaps.”
Jiang took a deep breath and continued flipping.
The subsequent handwriting became chaotic, large drops of ink stained the paper.
October 15, 1903.
I think, maybe, someone entered my room, maybe…
The phone here was taken away, completely cutting off contact with the outside world.
There are also some suspicious people wandering outside the house.
Damn, should’ve hidden the notebook…
I don’t dare rest now, I’m afraid they’ll kill to silence.
If I die, it’s nothing, but what about that child?
Will he die too…
Jiang’s fingertips brushed over the last line, feeling a deep-seated shiver.
So terrifying, so terrifying, something terrible must have happened, right?
True terror can come from everything, what you see, feel, words, images, and your own imagination and the unknown.
Jiang Chenyi swallowed.
Mr. Ghost sensed his lover’s fear, he hugged the young man, softly saying, “Don’t be afraid, nothing will happen.”
Jiang Chenyi lifted his head, “Something terrible happened here.”
Who was the corpse lying on the dining table?
“But it’s all in the past, don’t worry.” Mr. Ghost kissed his forehead, gently comforting him.
