Good Night, Mr. Ghost - Chapter 41
Jiang Chenyi let out a sigh of relief, glancing at Mr. Ghost with a smile, “That sales assistant was really kind, wasn’t she?”
“What else would you expect? Isn’t that how it should be?” Meng Loudi raised an eyebrow.
“Haha, I forgot, you probably haven’t seen those bizarre sales assistant videos or stories. Some people can be really annoying,” the young man chuckled, then turned his attention to a nearby rack of casual clothes.
He looked at them and said, “If possible, let’s buy a few pieces later.”
Jiang Chenyi was the kind of person who always wanted to reciprocate kindness shown to him, never holding grudges, only remembering the good.
“Sure,” Meng Loudi agreed, everything was fine by him.
Jiang Chenyi looked at him, raising an eyebrow, “Are you nervous?”
It seemed Mr. Ghost’s expression was a bit tense.
Caught by his lover, Mr. Ghost nodded slightly, maintaining a serious face. It had been a long time since he had been in such a crowded place.
“If you’re not feeling well, we can head back,” Jiang said with some concern. It’s said that some pets can have stress reactions if they’re too anxious, and in severe cases, it could be fatal.
Mr. Ghost licked his lips and whispered, “It’s okay, Chenyi, can you give me a hug?”
Perhaps being held would help him stabilize.
Jiang Chenyi gave a helpless smile and reached out to embrace him.
The sales assistant happened to see this and was momentarily stunned, turning away in a daze, thinking to herself: What’s with kids these days? Is this some kind of trend?
But they didn’t look like impulsive teenagers; they must have thought it through.
After the hug, Jiang Chenyi released him and asked with a grin, “How about now, feeling better?”
“Yes,” Mr. Ghost’s face was tinged with a blush.
The young man turned back to the clothes, spotting a black jacket with red patterns and embroidery on the collar.
“This jacket looks really nice.”
He didn’t touch it, just admired it.
The sales assistant noticed and said warmly, “You can feel the fabric; it’s very comfortable.”
“Uh, okay, thank you.” Jiang was startled, then a bit embarrassed.
Meng Loudi had already reached out, feeling the sleeve of the jacket, “The fabric is very comfortable.”
Jiang Chenyi glanced at the price tag, and the words “I’ll buy it for you” were swallowed back.
The price was clear as day.
Eighteen thousand eight hundred.
Impressive.
Not much cheaper than Jiang’s computer.
“I’ll buy it for you,” Meng Loudi said, his gentle black eyes meeting the young man’s, “I’ll talk to Bai Lu, he’ll have a way.”
“What are you saying! Can’t I afford a single piece of clothing?” Jiang took out his phone, knowing he still had over sixty thousand in his account!
As a man who doted on Mr. Ghost, he was more than willing to spend lavishly.
But it still stung a bit.
“Oh dear, what’s this? How did such shabby people get into such a high-end store?” A sharp male voice cut through.
A woman, in a shrill voice, added, “Sales assistant, sales assistant, you should kick them out. This isn’t a place for them!”
Jiang turned to see a flashy woman adorned in gold and silver, accompanied by a blonde young man dressed head-to-toe in designer brands.
The blonde young man looked at them, his nostrils flaring like a bull’s.
“Look at them, they don’t look like they can afford anything!”
Jiang Chenyi: “…Speechless.”
He lowered his voice so only Meng Loudi could hear, “What?”
“Nothing,” Jiang turned away, determined not to let Mr. Ghost, who didn’t know a single curse word, be corrupted.
They ignored the pair.
The woman stomped over to the sales assistant, pointing at Jiang and Mr. Ghost, her voice shrill, “Aren’t you going to do something? Don’t you know they’re ruining our mood? You’ll lose customers!”
The sales assistant smiled, cursing inwardly.
But she was over thirty, had seen all sorts of odd people, and wasn’t easily angered anymore.
Some people, thinking they’re extraordinary just because they have money.
What, do they think they can live forever?
But maintaining good service was crucial, never giving them a reason to complain.
“This beautiful lady, I apologize, but our company policy clearly states we cannot drive away customers. This is our service policy. You’re so beautiful and generous, please don’t make it difficult for them, okay?”
The sales assistant smiled warmly.
The woman huffed, playing with her curls, a smug smile on her face, “Alright, since you’re so good with words, let’s go, darling. Let’s look over there. Your birthday’s coming up, and I must pick out a nice outfit for you~”
Jiang Chenyi watched them, and the sales assistant shrugged helplessly at him.
The young man turned back to the clothes, a smirk forming. Can’t afford it? I’ll sell everything I have just to prove you wrong!
And so, Meng Loudi watched as the young man, who initially said he wouldn’t buy anything, seriously began picking out clothes.
And in pairs, no less.
“Loudi, see if there’s anything you like.”
Meng Loudi circled around, choosing a V-neck white shirt with red butterflies embroidered as if ready to take flight, looking quite beautiful.
“This one, Chenyi, you should try it. It’ll look great on you.”
“Really?” Jiang expressed a bit of doubt.
Mr. Ghost nodded, “Yes.”
“These two, you try one, and I’ll try the other,” Jiang pointed to the clothes he had chosen.
Then he turned to the sales assistant, “Ma’am, could you come over, please?”
The sales assistant was a bit taken aback, realizing they were serious about buying.
She walked over in her heels, looking at the young man, “Are you sure you want to try them? No, in our store, you can’t try unless you’re buying. If there’s an issue, we can have it altered for you.”
Jiang understood; to try, you had to buy.
No problem, for the sake of pride, he would buy!
“Alright,” Jiang declared heroically.
He pointed to several pieces, “These, ma’am, we’ll take them all!”
The sales assistant hesitated but took down the clothes Jiang had chosen.
Buying clothes in pairs, it was confirmed.
The sales assistant added, “Young man, if you really buy them, it’ll be around a hundred thousand.”
“Don’t worry, I can afford it.”
“…Then follow me.” The sales assistant had nothing more to say.
The couple choosing clothes noticed too.
The woman was stunned, “Can they really afford it?”
“They definitely can’t, they don’t look like they have money,” the blonde young man frowned, though he was uncertain.
“This one looks nice, but it’s a bit pricey,” the woman said, eyeing a piece.
“…What are you worried about price for? It’s my money anyway,” the blonde young man muttered under his breath.
“What?”
“Uh, nothing, nothing.”
Jiang and Mr. Ghost entered the fitting room, together.
Jiang held the clothes, lowering his head, making an indistinct sound.
Mr. Ghost bent slightly, looking at the young man, “What’s wrong, Chenyi?”
“…Boohoo, Loudi, my money’s all gone, boohoo,” Jiang lamented, burying his head in Mr. Ghost’s chest.
“Hahaha, what’s wrong? Feeling the pinch?” Mr. Ghost held him, a smile playing on his lips.
He knew it; how could their Chenyi spend so much on clothes?
Chenyi would rather spend on games, buy skins, and draw prizes than buy clothes.
“It’s not the pinch, it’s the pain,” Jiang said weakly.
“Then let’s not buy them,” Mr. Ghost suggested.
“No way! We have to buy them, even if it’s just for pride!” Jiang lifted his head, “Dare to say I can’t afford it? I’ll prove them wrong!”
Mr. Ghost raised a hand, gently touching the young man’s cheek, “So cute~ Even when you’re sulking, you’re adorable.”
“Hmph.” Jiang turned his head, his ears burning red.
“Let’s try on the clothes,” Mr. Ghost said.
“Okay.”
They began trying on clothes, and once dressed, stepped out together.
Seeing them, the sales assistant’s eyes lit up, “You look great!”
“Hehe, really?” Jiang was a bit shy.
“Come, come, take a look here,” the sales assistant led them to a fitting mirror.
In the mirror, the two looked well-matched. Jiang wore a white jacket with black fish patterns embroidered on the chest and cuffs, while Mr. Ghost wore a black jacket with white fish patterns.
Simple yet with a classical touch.
Meng Loudi stood beside Jiang, taller by half a head, able to envelop the young man completely with a single step.
“Looks great,” Mr. Ghost said softly, his deep voice so pleasing it made Jiang feel weak.
“You look great too,” Jiang replied, looking at him, his face flushed.
Their fingers intertwined, they exchanged a smile.
The blonde’s voice rang out, “Whoa, they’re a couple!”
Jiang looked at him, seeing his shocked expression.
Then the woman beside him tugged at the man’s ear, making him yelp.
“Honey! Honey, darling, what’s wrong?” the blonde asked.
“Don’t be so rude,” the woman looked at them, a gentle smile on her face, “Sorry, we meant no harm.”
She leaned into the young man’s ear, whispering, “They finally get to hold hands openly and happily shop. Why are you blabbering? What’s wrong with being gay? Honestly! It’s because of people like you that it’s so hard for them.”
After scolding her husband, she smiled at them, waving, “Sorry, continue trying on clothes, go on.”
Jiang looked at the woman’s sudden change in attitude, amused.
“Why did she change? She wasn’t like that just now,” Mr. Ghost was puzzled.
“Because women are generally more accepting of us, maybe out of sympathy,” Jiang wasn’t sure.
But indeed, female companions were more tolerant of their existence.
The sales assistant asked, “Do you want to try more? This set looks really good.”
The young man nodded, “Try!”
Today, Jiang Chenyi would splurge on himself!
Mr. Ghost watched the determination on his lover’s face, chuckling, leaning in to whisper, “Have Bai Lu reimburse you later.”
“Uh, no, Mr. Ghost, this is my gift to you, so it has to be my money. I’m really good to you, aren’t I? You have to love me well in the future,” Jiang tilted his head, eyes twinkling with mischief.
