Good Night, Mr. Ghost - Chapter 40
Miss Rabbit smiled warmly, “Everyone is waiting in the chairman’s office. Although Mr. Meng won’t have to do much, there are still many trivial matters during the transition of power.”
“I understand,” Meng Loudi nodded.
When he wasn’t facing Jiang Chenyi, he seemed to revert to the refined gentleman from a thousand years ago, one with a severe case of cleanliness obsession. Like a gentle breeze and a bright moon, he was unattainable.
Yet, at this moment, he was holding the young man’s fingers, and when he looked at Jiang Chenyi, his aura softened.
Jiang, holding his hand as well, whispered, “Mr. Ghost, you must adapt to the affairs here well in the future.”
“I understand, I will strive to integrate into this world.”
So that I can be with you better.
Mr. Ghost’s lips curled into a smile.
Jiang Chenyi glanced at the man beside him, unable to suppress the smile on his lips.
Amazing, really.
He was once a bewildered ghost, and now he had transformed into a chairman of unknown wealth.
Yet, he seemed to have made no progress.
Jiang silently wept inside.
So useless.
“Our working floors are from the 36th to the 70th floor. The chairman’s office is on the 48th floor, where there are also offices for several presidents, directors, and managers. Everyone is waiting for Mr. Meng. Once Mr. Meng completes the handover procedures, everyone will support you in your work,” Brownish explained.
The elevator soon stopped, and the three stepped out, stopping in front of the innermost office.
The door opened.
Bai Lu revealed his gentle and handsome face, smiling as he welcomed them, “Welcome, Chief, to your workplace. Please come in.”
Mr. Ghost, dressed in a pristine white suit, strode in.
Jiang followed behind him like a well-behaved little wife.
In the bright and spacious office, ten people stood.
There were men and women, young and old.
They stood in the room, nervously watching Meng Loudi.
Jiang recognized some of the people who had visited his home with Bai Lu that day.
Brownish and Bai Lu quickly joined their ranks, then, as if rehearsed countless times, they bowed and greeted in unison, “Welcome, Mr. Chief!”
The voices of the twelve were quite loud.
Jiang tried to avoid their bow, only to be pulled back by Mr. Ghost by the collar.
Meng Loudi’s face remained calm, “Don’t stray too far from me, or I’ll be unhappy.”
Fortunately, Mr. Ghost kept a straight face and didn’t show a pitiful expression.
Jiang sighed and returned to his original position-on Mr. Ghost’s left side.
Miss Brownish smiled, “Next, we’ll discuss some company matters. If you find it boring, Mr. Jiang, you can visit the mall downstairs.”
“No, it’s fine. I’ll just stay here,” Jiang smiled.
Then Meng Loudi pulled him to the sofa on the side and sat down with great confidence.
Jiang: “…”
Even as the chief, isn’t this a bit too arrogant?
Meng Loudi pretended to adjust a pair of glasses on his face, “Alright, let’s begin the report.”
It was indeed a very official report, but out of respect, Jiang Chenyi tried hard to resist the urge to play on his phone, resting his chin on his hand to show he was listening attentively.
But as he listened, much of it became incomprehensible.
Meng Loudi picked up a pen and began signing documents.
The twelve officers took turns reporting on company affairs.
After the tedious human affairs concluded, Mr. Bai stepped forward.
“Now, I’d like to report on the affairs of the Alliance of Supernatural Beings to Mr. Meng.”
This was a bit more interesting.
He talked about the distribution of supernatural beings, the security of various regions, and recent events.
No matter what it was, Meng Loudi listened intently, his expression serious.
Jiang, listening, glanced at Mr. Ghost.
Indeed, a man who is serious is very attractive.
Once all matters were reported, the twelve officers left one after another.
Bai Lu stayed behind, smiling, “Now you two can relax a bit, but at three in the afternoon, there will be the chairman’s first appearance in the auditorium on the 50th floor. We’ll prepare everything; Mr. Chief just needs to stand there.”
Brownish blinked excitedly, “You two can go for a stroll nearby. There’s an amusement park not far away. It’s a bit pricey, but it’s a lot of fun!”
“Alright,” Meng Loudi rarely smiled.
Then Bai Lu and Brownish also left the office.
Jiang Chenyi sighed in relief, collapsing onto the sofa.
Meng Loudi looked at him, raised his hand, and touched his ear, “Are you tired?”
“Not really.”
“Now, can Chenyi explain to me?” Mr. Ghost’s eyes darkened.
If Jiang Chenyi continued to evade, he would truly be angry.
“Explain? Oh, that, um-how should I put it,” Jiang Chenyi was a bit troubled.
Meng Loudi leaned in, whispering into the young man’s ear, “Is Chenyi making up a lie? Can’t you just say your reason directly?”
“No, it’s just that I really don’t know how to say it,” the young man looked at him, his clear brown eyes free of deceit.
“Just say it however you like,” Mr. Ghost coaxed, though whether he’d be angry after hearing it was another matter.
Jiang tilted his head, sighed, and covered his face, “Alright, alright, I’ll say it. As a healthy adult, I want my own career. I don’t want to be a freeloader.”
“But I was like that before, and your father even called me a kept man,” Mr. Ghost frowned.
Jiang sheepishly lowered his hand, looking to the side, lacking confidence, “Well, didn’t I find a way to solve that later? The main issue is you don’t have an ID or a degree. I feel if I let you do those tiring and low-paying jobs, I’d feel heartbroken.”
That was the truth.
He really didn’t want his Mr. Ghost to do those exploited part-time jobs.
In college, Jiang Chenyi had done some part-time work.
Tutoring and such, which already had relatively high pay.
Many part-time jobs were both hard and poorly paid.
Although Meng Loudi was good-looking…
But out of his own selfishness, Jiang didn’t want his Mr. Ghost to sell his looks.
Jiang truly wanted Meng Loudi to be his pampered darling, and he would keep him in a golden house.
Meng Loudi listened to the young man’s explanation and chuckled softly, “I understand. I won’t restrict Chenyi. You can find whatever job you want.”
Since his beloved wanted to do something, let him.
As long as he’s happy.
Jiang looked at Mr. Ghost, almost moved to tears by his understanding!
How could someone be so kind!
Meng Loudi saw the shock on the young man’s face and smiled, “Now, give me a hug.”
“Okay!” The young man leaped into his arms, nuzzling against him.
Mr. Ghost held the young man’s warm body, his lips curling into a slightly wicked smile, which quickly turned into a gentle curve, “Chenyi, let’s go for a walk. There’s a big mall downstairs, and I haven’t been there yet.”
“Sure, but your clothes, um.” Jiang looked at his Mr. Ghost’s suit, thinking it was more suitable for a fashion show than shopping.
“That’s not a problem.” Mr. Ghost took off his suit, and with a swirl of ghostly aura, it transformed into clothes matching Jiang Chenyi’s.
The young man clicked his tongue, “Your ability is really handy.”
“Isn’t it? I’m quite impressive, aren’t I?” Mr. Ghost smiled, “If you want, I can do it for you too.”
“No, I don’t need it right now. It feels a bit weird,” Jiang declined.
The two went downstairs together.
The guards at the door were momentarily stunned, but they had been briefed by Brownish earlier.
Very respectfully, they said, “Have a good day, Chairman!”
In Ba Lin’s company, whether entering or leaving, one must pass under the watchful eyes of the guards.
Jiang looked at the young men on either side, thinking: perhaps they are also some kind of supernatural beings.
The two went straight to the first floor.
“Um, Loudi, you’ve never been to such a big mall, have you?”
“No.”
“That’s nice, neither have I.” Jiang shrugged. Though he went to college in the provincial capital, it wasn’t very developed, and being quite the homebody, he rarely went shopping.
The two held hands.
The young man said, “Maybe we’ll get some strange looks.”
“It doesn’t matter.”
“Being pointed at by others doesn’t bother you?” Jiang looked at Mr. Ghost.
“Does it bother Chenyi?”
“No.”
“Then it doesn’t bother me either.”
So the two walked forward hand in hand.
Though both men were quite handsome, in the bustling crowd, they didn’t particularly attract attention, especially with many people walking while staring at their phones.
“Let’s just wander around,” Jiang Chenyi smiled.
And so, they really just wandered around.
The first floor was a department store.
They skipped it, as they didn’t need to buy groceries or anything like that.
The second to tenth floors were clothing sections.
This was where they did some browsing.
Mainly in the men’s section.
They wandered back and forth, without any intention to buy, just browsing.
Jiang Chenyi and Meng Loudi strolled around.
Though they were good-looking, their attire was quite ordinary, so they didn’t catch the attention of the sales assistants.
They walked into a store with nice decor, the lighting dreamy and ethereal, occupying a significant space in the mall. Each piece of clothing had ample space to display its front.
Jiang Chenyi looked around at the clothes, expressing admiration.
Meng Loudi showed no reaction.
Compared to modern clothes, he preferred the attire from his own era.
A customer had arrived, and a sales assistant in her thirties, with a simple and elegant appearance, looked at the two, sighing inwardly.
Probably here to have a look around, she thought. Their outfits were all from unknown brands, not a single piece from a recognizable brand.
The fabric wasn’t luxurious either.
It seemed they didn’t have the ability to pay.
But the woman, wearing her uniform, still approached with graceful steps, her smile polite and gentle, “Is there anything I can help you with?”
Jiang’s face turned red, a bit embarrassed, but he still shyly said, “We’re just looking around.”
“I see, then please feel free. I won’t disturb you,” the sales assistant stepped back a few steps, standing by a shelf.
They were selling clothes, not something easily damaged by casual handling.
The two young men looked well-dressed, unlikely to have any ill intentions.
Besides, there were cameras in the store.
The woman maintained her gentle smile.
But they both looked quite handsome, promising young men. In three to five years, they might be able to afford the clothes here.
All potential customers should be treated well.
