Good Night, Mr. Ghost - Chapter 42
Mr. Ghost had become quite the remarkable figure, and Jiang Chenyi, a mere commoner, had to cling tightly to his beloved’s leg.
“Alright, I’ll love you more and more,” Mr. Ghost said, gently ruffling the young man’s hair with a tender smile.
Jiang Chenyi sighed, “Love really does lower one’s IQ. It also makes people irrational.”
“Then let’s go crazy together,” Meng Loudi chuckled.
“Alright, you lunatic,” Jiang Chenyi said, and they tried on three more outfits.
After finishing, they asked the sales assistant to pack everything up.
The sales assistant was taken aback, “You really want all of these? I…”
Jiang Chenyi pulled out his phone, shaking it, “Yes, we have the money.”
The heavily made-up woman, seeing this, was furious. She grabbed her man’s arm and scolded, “You embarrassing fool, who told you to run your mouth?!”
The blonde young man, wincing from his wife’s pinch, quickly said, “Didn’t you say it too?!”
“Are you looking for trouble?” The woman glared.
“…Yes, yes, you’re the boss, whatever you say.”
The sales assistant packed the clothes and said, “That’ll be 113,800. You can scan the code to pay.”
Jiang turned around, burying his head in Meng Loudi’s chest, his hand trembling as he let the sales assistant scan the code.
The sales assistant, seeing the young man trembling from the pain of spending so much, couldn’t help but laugh. She looked at the handsome Mr. Ghost and sincerely said, “I wish you both happiness.”
It was the first time Mr. Ghost had received such a blessing from someone else.
Meng Loudi was momentarily stunned, then smiled brightly.
“Thank you.”
Mr. Ghost took the bags and, with his arm around Jiang, walked out.
The heavily made-up woman stood with her arms crossed, watching them leave.
The blonde young man, unhappy, leaned in and asked, “Honey, what are you looking at? Are those two guys better looking than me?”
The woman reached out, pinching his cheek, “No, I was just thinking about how long they can last…”
Whether it was family or society, there would be many difficult hurdles.
But Jiang and Mr. Meng didn’t need to worry about these things; they had the support of those around them.
Jiang hung limply on Mr. Ghost’s arm.
Meng Loudi, seeing his state, found it amusing, “How about it? Should I get you reimbursed after all?”
“I said no! Seriously, let’s go, I’ll take you to eat. There are many things Loudi hasn’t tried yet.”
Jiang Chenyi instantly perked up.
Although it hurt to spend so much, money is meant to be spent when needed.
He wasn’t always extravagant; he just wanted to buy the best for Meng Loudi.
His Mr. Ghost deserved him splurging on himself.
“Really? I can really help Chenyi get reimbursed,” Meng Loudi confirmed again. He was no longer the penniless kept man he once was; his future wealth would be substantial.
“I said no! If you keep insisting, I’ll bite you,” Jiang Chenyi rolled his eyes, a skill he had mastered.
A man shouldn’t be wishy-washy. The money was spent, so let it be!
But it still hurt a little.
Jiang felt he had no right to call Mr. Ghost wishy-washy. Perhaps it was his own display of pain that made Mr. Ghost ask repeatedly.
“…”
Mr. Ghost began to ponder if he should ask one more time and let Chenyi bite him. After all, Chenyi wouldn’t bite hard; it would be more like playful teasing.
But he only thought about it.
An angry little hedgehog could still prick.
They had lunch at the mall, each ordering a bowl of rice noodles with different flavors.
This way, they could try two flavors at once.
After lunch, they returned to the office.
In the office, there was a partitioned area, the chairman’s break room, all brand new.
Jiang Chenyi looked at the soft bed and declared he was tired.
So Mr. Ghost took him to sleep together.
They lay on the bed, facing each other, with Mr. Ghost holding the young man’s back and the young man wrapping his arms around his waist.
After a while, Jiang said, “Loudi, it’s a bit hot.”
He meant they should let go of each other. It was a hot day, and they were under a blanket, hugging. It was stifling.
Mr. Ghost calmly began to cool himself down.
Jiang Chenyi felt the coolness of his lover’s body, which was below normal temperature, and wrapped himself around him, enjoying the comfort and quickly falling asleep.
Meng Loudi smiled.
He wouldn’t let go.
He wanted Chenyi to love him so much that he couldn’t let go.
But before Meng Loudi could make Jiang Chenyi love him to that extent, he was forced to take on the responsibilities of chief and chairman.
As a man from a thousand years ago, Meng Loudi’s learning ability was extraordinary. Within a week, he had handled some basic matters. Although he still had some way to go before fully grasping power, he was already impressive.
Jiang Chenyi, unsure of what he could do, decided to learn digital drawing.
But, to be honest, his drawings were terrible. Only his Mr. Ghost could say with a straight face that they looked good.
The young man curled up on the sofa, holding a drawing tablet, and started drawing.
The office was quiet, with only the sound of the stylus moving and the occasional page turning.
Meng Loudi was studying the history of Ba Lin’s rise.
As he read, Mr. Ghost’s gaze shifted from the documents to the young man.
Jiang Chenyi held the drawing tablet, quietly drawing, occasionally biting his fingertip, seemingly troubled.
Meng Loudi stared intently.
So, so cute.
He wanted to hold him.
Mr. Ghost’s gaze grew intense. Jiang Chenyi, sensing it, looked up to see the man staring at him without blinking.
Jiang: “…”
Meng Loudi, unfazed, said, “Chenyi, you’re so beautiful.”
Jiang Chenyi looked at him expressionlessly.
He felt nothing inside, not even the urge to hit him.
Because this scene had happened countless times since they started working together.
Jiang Chenyi put down his drawing tablet, put on his shoes, walked over, and pinched Mr. Ghost’s face, saying fiercely, “Stop looking at me! You stared for a long time ten minutes ago! Focus on your work, okay?!”
If this continued, Jiang Chenyi would start feeling like a femme fatale!
Meng Loudi held his wrist, frowned slightly, and said, “But I don’t need to focus on work, do I?”
Jiang rolled his eyes, “What nonsense are you talking about?”
“They said everything would be handled by the previous chairman,” Mr. Ghost said seriously.
“And you?”
“I’m just a mascot.” Mr. Ghost had accepted this role and even liked it.
Being a mascot was great. No need to work, just sit here and watch Chenyi, and that was enough.
Jiang Chenyi looked at his completely fallen lover and fell silent.
“But as the chairman, you still need to attend various meetings. You can’t be completely clueless, right?”
“It’s okay. They can transform into me,” Meng Loudi had completely fallen.
Jiang Chenyi: “That makes some sense.”
So, in summary, were they just going to coast?
What was the point of Bai Lu bringing Meng Loudi back?
The young man tried to clear his mind.
“But we need to have our own abilities! Meng Loudi, Mr. Meng, Mr. Chief! Do you want to be a parasite?! Earning a monthly salary of 100,000! Do you think that’s fair to everyone?!” Jiang Chenyi pleaded earnestly.
He couldn’t let Mr. Ghost become a parasite!
Even supernatural beings needed determination!
“Well, since it’s Chenyi’s wish, I’ll do my best,” Mr. Ghost compromised.
Although he preferred to stick to Chenyi all the time, saying that would make him seem unambitious.
Love had turned Meng Loudi into a useless ghost.
Though reluctant, Meng Loudi promised Jiang Chenyi.
Jiang breathed a sigh of relief, “You must work hard. To make sure you do, I’ll leave for now. Call me when you’ve finished today’s tasks!”
With that, Jiang Chenyi grabbed his computer and drawing tablet and ran off.
Mr. Ghost: “Hey-”
Chenyi ran away.
Meng Loudi looked at the company report in front of him.
To be honest, some parts were hard to understand.
So, it was time to ask for help.
He made a call, his voice cold, “Please have President Bai take the call.”
“Bai Lu, come to my office. I have some questions.”
Jiang Chenyi, holding his computer, left and took the elevator to the lobby. He looked around, unsure where to go.
He stopped a passing young man and asked, “Excuse me, where is the break room?”
The young man adjusted his glasses and sniffed, “Hmm, are you the chief’s wife? The break room is over there, with snacks and drinks. It’s very quiet.”
He pointed in a direction.
“Thank you,” Jiang Chenyi said.
“You’re welcome,” the young man replied, hurrying off with his things.
Jiang Chenyi found a seat in a corner, put his things down, and continued drawing.
Although his drawings were currently bizarre, he hoped to improve over time.
The young man bit his fingertip. To be honest, he really wanted to draw a chibi version of Mr. Ghost.
It would be so cute.
Jiang Chenyi couldn’t help but smile in anticipation.
After work, they went home together.
They were still being chauffeured.
Because neither of them had a driver’s license.
Meng Loudi loosened his suit and sighed in relief.
Jiang looked at him and asked, “How was it? Tough day at work?”
“Not really tough, but sometimes I really want to see Chenyi.”
Mr. Ghost looked at him, his eyes filled with loneliness.
So, during work, he would sneak down to see his young man, then happily return to work.
But if he said that, he’d be scolded.
Better not say it.
Jiang Chenyi smiled, touching his ear, “You’re so clingy. Next time, I’ll come up to see you.”
He missed his Mr. Ghost too.
But he forced himself to endure it.
