Good Night, Mr. Ghost - Chapter 36
Some supernatural beings choose to remain in the form of an object for their entire lives, not seeking further cultivation, but simply desiring a happy and meaningful existence. Others continue to cultivate, striving to do good deeds to accumulate blessings for themselves. Naturally, there are also those who refuse to remain idle, always looking to stir up trouble.
Moreover, the spirit energy in this world is becoming increasingly scarce. For supernatural beings, this is a declining era. Everyone has their own way of living.
Upon arriving in S City, they were to meet the other seven chiefs, essentially a formal introduction. After disembarking from the train, they headed directly to the airport, had a meal, and then it was time to board the plane.
As they soared through the clouds, Meng Loudi sat by the window, gazing outside. Jiang Chenyi held his hand, leaning against his shoulder, and smiled, “How is it? Isn’t it amazing?”
“It is. When I was alive, I never imagined I could one day fly in the sky,” Mr. Ghost replied, looking at Jiang Chenyi with a shy smile.
“Haha, indeed. Isn’t human development incredible?” Jiang Chenyi mused, looking outside again, and whispered, “Humans are truly a race favored by the heavens.”
In this world, what other race can be like humans? Both cruel and kind, strong and weak, bright and dark. They possess unparalleled wisdom and endless desire, along with remarkable creativity and terrifying destructive power. Like a powerful virus thriving on Earth.
Mr. Ghost watched Jiang, softly saying, “Perhaps…”
Is it truly favor, or is it a curse…
Soon, the plane landed in S City. It was a bustling city. Bai Lu had already arranged everything; a discreet business car was waiting at the airport to take them to the residence of the chief of the eighth district.
Jiang Chenyi was feeling a bit sleepy; he hadn’t slept much during the journey. After all, leaving the familiar environment was unsettling, which was normal. Brownish sat beside the young man, her big, watery eyes blinking, her soft little paw unconsciously resting on his thigh, chattering away.
“Chenyi, Chenyi! Let me tell you, the new house is amazing. We’ve only brought you here now because we’ve been preparing your living arrangements and duties! You’ll be colleagues soon, right? Mr. Meng would surely love to have Chenyi as his personal secretary, right?”
Miss Rabbit flashed a bright smile, pure and innocent, but to Jiang Chenyi, it carried a hint of infatuation. Mr. Meng’s gaze darkened as he looked at the soft little paw.
Bai Lu, sitting in the front passenger seat, sighed with concern. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to sit with Brownish; it was simply that there wasn’t enough room. The driver glanced back curiously, catching a glimpse of Mr. Ghost’s cold, handsome face. His heart skipped a beat; no wonder Mr. Bai personally came to pick them up. He seemed quite extraordinary.
But under Brownish’s bright gaze, Jiang could only say, “Maybe? I’m not sure yet; I’ll have to see.”
“What? Not working with Mr. Meng? Come on, work together, I can enjoy your lovey-dovey moments every day. But the office romance setting is quite nice too~”
Brownish finally withdrew her hand, cradling her round face, sniffing.
“Ugh-so hard to choose.”
Meng Loudi frowned. What’s going on?
Pure and innocent Mr. Ghost had only seen stories of domineering presidents, mostly paired with stubborn heroines. There were many magical stories he hadn’t discovered yet.
But Jiang, being a normal 26-year-old, understood. What kind of nonsense is in this rabbit lady’s head…
Jiang sighed heavily in his heart.
Bai Lu finally couldn’t stand it anymore. He took out a carrot-shaped lollipop from his pocket and handed it to Brownish, saying, “Brownish, behave, don’t corrupt others.”
The little rabbit giggled as she accepted the candy, not forgetting to retort, “Brownish hasn’t! Brownish has always been good! Brownish is just looking out for Mr. Meng and Chenyi-Ge’s happiness!”
“Brownish,” Bai Lu’s voice carried a hint of threat.
“Alright, alright, such a killjoy.” The little rabbit stuffed the lollipop into her mouth, her cheeks puffing out.
Jiang looked at Miss Rabbit, thinking: If you only look at her appearance, she’s definitely a cute girl. But inside, why is she so indescribable?
Meng Loudi watched the now-quiet rabbit spirit, frowning. Finally, it’s quiet, no longer distracting Chenyi’s attention.
He embraced the young man, nuzzling his neck, and whispered, “Chenyi.”
“Mm, what’s up?” Jiang reached out to pat Mr. Ghost’s head.
Is this a sign of affection?
Really, the more he looked, the more he resembled a dog.
Mr. Ghost nuzzled him, drawing out his voice in a coquettish manner, “Chenyi, work with me in the future.”
He intertwined their fingers, his voice slightly hoarse.
“Now that I’m the chief, I can have Chenyi work with me, right? I want Chenyi to be with me; I don’t want Chenyi to be away from me for too long, okay?”
His breath brushed against the young man’s skin, causing a shiver.
Jiang pushed his head away, saying, “Meng Loudi, you can’t be so clingy.”
“No, I want Chenyi with me,” Meng Loudi lowered his voice, truly starting to act spoiled.
“How can I accompany you?” The young man laughed, “If we work together, can you really focus on work?”
Most likely, he’d act like a creepy stalker, staring at him all day without blinking. Kisses, hugs, and lifting him high would definitely be involved. How could he concentrate on work?
“I will work well,” Mr. Ghost promised at his ear, adding, “For Chenyi, even if I don’t work well, it’s okay, right?”
Brownish munched on her lollipop, her ears perked up, eavesdropping with a mischievous smile.
Jiang realized something, pushed Meng Loudi away, and cleared his throat, “Let’s talk about it tonight, okay? It’s not the time now.”
Mr. Ghost reluctantly sat back, still holding the young man’s hand.
Miss Rabbit had no gossip to share, nor any lovey-dovey moments to enjoy, so she slumped her shoulders in disappointment, looking aggrieved.
Ugh, if only she had maintained her expression, but she couldn’t control it.
Grumble.
Soon, they exited the highway and entered the city. After a few minor traffic jams, they arrived at their destination.
It was a small villa. The living area was serene, with a large lawn planted with various flowers and plants. The villa had three floors, two regular levels, and an attic, with a European style, appearing delicate and charming. A one-meter-high wall surrounded it.
Bai Lu explained, “This is the best residence we could find in the shortest time, perfect for you two. The security system here is excellent, and no one will disturb your rest. Unfortunately, we couldn’t find a residence befitting a chief’s status.”
Jiang Chenyi shrugged, as if they needed a small palace. No, an ancient tomb.
Meng Loudi looked around, “Chenyi, how do you feel?”
Jiang nodded, “I think it’s nice, but isn’t it a bit big for just two people?”
As a young man of the 21st century, he’s seen the world, so naturally, he wouldn’t be intimidated by a villa. Although he never thought he’d move into such a high-end villa area in his lifetime.
Brownish said, “Big? I think it’s okay; such a big place isn’t enough for me to dig holes. Chenyi, Chenyi, do you need an underground palace? I’ll build one for you!”
The girl’s eyes sparkled with excitement.
Bai Lu held back the eager little rabbit, warning, “Don’t dig holes randomly. That’s illegal construction.”
Brownish pouted, muttering, “Annoying Bai Lu, you must not love me anymore; you must have fallen for another little rabbit. I’m going to steal your heart…”
Bai Lu: “…”
Jiang Chenyi: “…”
Sorry, he couldn’t hold it in.
Mr. Ghost didn’t catch the humor in these words, remaining expressionless. He just wanted these two to leave his home. Even if it was just a new home.
Jiang couldn’t hold it in; he turned his head, pressing against Mr. Ghost’s chest, and laughed softly.
Meng Loudi didn’t understand, just holding the young man’s shoulder.
Feeling the vibrations from the other, Mr. Ghost couldn’t help but laugh too.
Mr. Bai, threatened with having his heart stolen by his little rabbit, looked a bit green. He picked up the little rabbit, carrying her on his shoulder, saying, “Now that you’re here, get familiar with the environment. Mr. Meng has my phone number, so if you have any questions, feel free to call me. As for when to start work, that’s up to Mr. Meng. When you’re ready, let me know in advance.”
“Okay.” Mr. Ghost was eager for him to leave.
So Bai Lu carried his increasingly bold little rabbit away, his aura not very friendly.
Brownish covered her mouth, giggling, “Bai Lu, Bai Lu, are you angry?”
Bai Lu carried her toward the car, his lips curling into a gentle smile, “Not angry.”
He wasn’t angry. As an officer, a rare white deer, a divine beast from mythology, how could he be angry over a little rabbit’s words?
Brownish, being carried, wasn’t angry either, tilting her head, “Bai Lu, Bai Lu, if you’re angry, will one kiss be enough?”
She tugged at the young man’s hair, her grip soft, babbling, “How about two kisses? Still angry? Not enough~ How about three?”
Really, there’s no dealing with her.
Bai Lu’s expression softened, “You, come have dinner with me. Let’s have a vegetarian hotpot, okay?”
“Okay, lots of cabbage! I love Mr. Bai the most~” Brownish cooed.
Men are the easiest to please. Just love them and express it.
Miss Rabbit lay limply on Bai Lu’s shoulder, letting him take her away.
Today was still a happy day.
