Good Night, Mr. Ghost - Chapter 35
Under the intense gaze of Mr. Ghost, Jiang Chenyi showed no fear.
This dog man, apart from kissing him, would bite him too. He was used to it by now.
Then, there was a knock on the door.
Mr. Ghost stood up, looked over, and said, “It’s Bai Lu.”
The door opened on its own.
A young man in a white trench coat stood outside, exuding an air of elegance and grace. With a gentle smile, he looked at the two and said, “Hello, Mr. Meng, the eighth chief. After several meetings among us supernatural beings, we’ve decided that you have the potential to become a chief. We hope you can come to our camp and take charge of the headquarters of the eighth camp.”
Meng Loudi looked at him and asked, “Go to the headquarters of the eighth camp?”
“Yes. To S City. Perhaps, you two might need to move,” Bai Lu said with a cheerful smile.
S City was one of the most prosperous cities now, still located in the north.
“Is it okay? Chenyi, if it’s not, I’ll refuse him,” Mr. Ghost looked at his beloved.
He didn’t mind either way, but he wanted to prioritize Jiang Chenyi’s thoughts.
Mr. Ghost had no ambition at the moment.
Jiang waved the spoon in his hand and said, “It’s fine, Loudi. I’ve been ready for a while, but Mr. Bai, could you wait a bit? We might need a day to pack our things.”
“Of course, I can. I’ll book train tickets for tomorrow afternoon, and then we’ll head to D City and transfer to S City,” Mr. Bai said, his smile warm and friendly. “Well, I’ll leave you two to your world.”
Heaven knows how terrible the look in Meng Loudi’s eyes was.
His superior, the chief of the eighth district, seemed to be a man with a strong territorial sense.
Bai Lu quickly left the place.
Jiang Chenyi waved goodbye, and then Mr. Ghost closed the door, sat beside the young man, and asked, “Are you really okay with this?”
He couldn’t help but wrap his arms around the young man’s neck, affectionately leaning close to his ear, nibbling on the soft earlobe.
Jiang Chenyi didn’t push him away, feeling the ticklish sensation on his ear, he hugged Mr. Ghost’s waist and whispered, “It’s fine. I’ve thought it through. We should go out and see the world. When I’m fifty or sixty, we can come back.”
“Alright,” Mr. Ghost kissed the young man’s cheek affectionately.
Jiang knelt on the sofa, straightened his back, and looked down at Meng Loudi, saying, “Then, let’s take everything with us. I wonder what kind of treatment the chief will have~ Sounds impressive.”
His brown eyes were full of teasing.
The new chief looked at him, bit his collarbone, and said, “As long as you like it.”
Whether weak or strong.
As long as you like it, everything is fine.
They packed their things, though not everything could be taken, just two suitcases.
Jiang also wrapped up his parents’ memorial tablets to take with them.
As long as they had the tablets, his parents would be able to find them, right?
Before putting away the tablets, Jiang chattered to them for a bit.
Told them they’d find them later, as they were going to S City.
Then, the two bid farewell to the Jiang Family house and followed Bai Lu to the train station.
Accompanying them was Miss Rabbit, Brownish.
Brownish was wearing a snow-white long dress this time, looking petite and cute.
She held Bai Lu’s arm and said with a smile, “Brownish is also an officer under Mr. Meng! Don’t be fooled by my appearance; I have 300 years of cultivation as a demon.”
Bai Lu let Brownish hold him, explaining, “I forgot to tell you before, Brownish and I are a couple.”
Jiang looked at them.
He thought Bai Lu and the rabbit made a cute pair.
The four of them boarded the train together.
It was Meng Loudi’s first time on a train, and he found it quite fascinating.
The four of them occupied a four-seater.
They had to take a four-hour train ride to reach their destination.
Jiang Chenyi bought a bunch of snacks, and everyone laughed and joked, creating a great atmosphere.
Jiang suddenly remembered something and asked, “Bai Lu, I wanted to ask, what do your chiefs need to do?”
Bai Lu thought for a moment and said, “It’s roughly like this. We currently have only eight chiefs. Based on the situation in the other seven districts, a chief generally holds the position of chairman in the company, leads a leisurely life, and doesn’t cause trouble. When we officers encounter issues we can’t resolve, the chief steps in.”
He smiled warmly, “It’s somewhat like a guardian beast or a mascot. After all, in places with a chief, the likelihood of supernatural beings causing trouble is much lower. In our eighth district, since the beginning of the year, we’ve already handled twenty-three non-human incidents in nine months. It’s quite a headache, but we’re fortunate to have found Mr. Meng. It’s truly our honor.”
“Nine months, twenty-three incidents-is that a lot?” Jiang Chenyi didn’t think it was much.
Brownish dug into her ice cream box and said, “Of course, it’s a lot. In other regions with a chief, there aren’t more than ten incidents a year. We follow the heavenly Dao1 and absolutely cannot cause chaos in this society.”
She licked her lips, waved her little spoon, and said, “We absolutely cannot cause chaotic events. Many things are suppressed by us and resolved as quickly as possible.”
Bai Lu looked at Mr. Ghost, propping his chin with his hands, and said with a smile, “Initially, when we found Mr. Meng, we noticed something was off. A little demon claimed to have encountered a man with a ghostly aura, and after some discussion, I finally came.”
“You sure took your time discussing it,” Mr. Ghost didn’t care about these things.
He just wanted to spend the rest of his life happily with Jiang Chenyi.
But it had been a year, and Bai Lu only appeared now. Their efficiency, tsk tsk.
Bai Lu shrugged, “Of course, at first, we thought it was just an ordinary ghost, and since there weren’t any strange death incidents, we later felt that Mr. Meng had the qualities of an officer.”
“Because I repelled Luo Yun?” Mr. Ghost raised an eyebrow and asked.
“Yes,” Bai Lu’s smile remained unchanged, “Although Luo Yun isn’t a particularly formidable figure, you defeated him with ease, which is quite impressive~”
Jiang Chenyi: “Wait… were you monitoring us all along?”
Meng Loudi’s gaze instantly turned unfriendly.
Bai Lu felt immense pressure.
Brownish blinked her eyes and jumped into Bai Lu’s arms, saying, “No, no, a little demon saw Luo Yun enter that community, secretly followed, and witnessed everything!”
“Then, why didn’t you help Luo Hui at the time?” Jiang Chenyi asked.
Brownish blinked her eyes, pouting, “Well, uh, Bai Lu, you explain!”
“Because Luo Hui doesn’t belong to our Alliance of Supernatural Beings. He’s part of a human organization, a creature kept by the Luo Family, and we can’t interfere,” Bai Lu patted Miss Rabbit’s head, “Besides, it’s complicated, and we don’t want to get involved with the Liu Family.”
“Liu Family?” Meng Loudi looked at him and said, “Liu Juncai?”
“Yes, that’s him. The Liu Family is currently the top Daoist family in the human world, and Liu Juncai is the eldest young master of the Liu Family. Moreover, Luo Hui has some connections with him, and this young master has also stated that we shouldn’t interfere in this matter.”
Bai Lu said, shrugging, seemingly helpless.
Brownish munched on her fries, speaking without reservation.
“Liu Juncai likes Luo Hui,” the rabbit spirit said calmly.
Jiang Chenyi wasn’t surprised by this.
After all, Liu Juncai’s attitude towards Luo Hui was unusual from the start.
Brownish’s mouth curved into an innocent smile.
“Luo Hui likes Luo Yun, and that scumbag Luo Yun has a fiancé but still clings to Luo Hui.”
Bai Lu’s expression changed, and he quickly tried to cover the little girl’s mouth.
Brownish flashed her buck teeth, looking adorably at Bai Lu, “As an officer, is it wrong to tell the chief some interesting things? Besides, many people know about this!”
She then looked at Jiang, her eyes round, “Right, right, handsome Chenyi, I’m not wrong, am I?”
Her expression was very similar to Wang Yi’s when gossiping.
Mr. Ghost hugged the young man and nodded, “Yes, telling me interesting things is fine, right?”
What else could Bai Lu say? He let his little devil have her way.
Brownish crunched on her fries. If not for hiding her identity, her excited ears would have popped up.
“And then, that fool Luo Yun didn’t know her father auctioned off Luo Hui. Liu Juncai took a liking to Luo Hui at first sight. It’s said that when Luo Hui was auctioned, he was in his original form, supposedly a rare short-haired cat with gray fur, not any particular breed. Then Luo Hui, unwilling to give up, tried to escape, and Young Master Liu played a game of chase.”
The rabbit spirit spoke with a fangirl-like smile, cupping her face with her hands, “Ah, ah, and it’s said that Young Master Liu let Luo Hui go, telling him to run as much as he could, but if caught again, he’d be doomed~ I heard from my little sister’s grapevine that Young Master Liu has already taken him back.”
“Ah-surely they’ll be doing this and that~” Her tone was incredibly flirtatious, making it hard to believe it came from an innocent rabbit lady.
Bai Lu wore a helpless smile, “There’s nothing I can do. Once this little one gets familiar with others, she shows her true colors.”
Brownish blushed, feeling a bit embarrassed, “There’s nothing I can do. Everyone says rabbits are like this, pure on the outside, wild on the inside.”
Jiang: “…”
Feels like you two are a good match.
Hmm, just like Jiang Chenyi and Meng Loudi, a perfect match.
During their journey, Bai Lu and Brownish also gave the two a crash course on supernatural beings.
Supernatural beings began organizing in the 19th century because human technological development was advancing too quickly. Many creatures sensitive to the world realized this was the world’s choice.
To survive, creatures had two options: ascend to immortality, break through the void, and enter other worlds; or adapt to history, disguise themselves, and live in the world.
Most powerful demons chose to fall into slumber, waiting for the opportunity to enter other worlds.
Many small demons were at a loss.
Some benevolent demons gathered and formed the Alliance of Supernatural Beings.
To follow tradition, they chose to use the twelve zodiac signs and the twelve months as their numerical basis.
They established a system with twelve chiefs, each with twelve officers.
They divided territories, with each chief overseeing a land, residing in the place with the best fortune, and the twelve officers scattered.
As for the small demons with insufficient cultivation, they were dispersed in various towns and villages, serving as monitors of safety and reporters of anomalies.
After this, supernatural beings hid among humans and coexisted quite harmoniously.
