Good Night, Mr. Ghost - Chapter 34
Meng Loudi looked at the bank card and asked, “Do you think I’d leave Chenyi for this?”
“Wouldn’t you? Three hundred thousand. I don’t know where you crawled out from as an unregistered citizen, but three hundred thousand, you’ve never seen that much, have you?” Jiang Yuexi looked at the man with crossed arms, a scornful expression on his face. “Take it and scram, got it?”
Meng Loudi, considering he was Chenyi’s cousin, refrained from tearing him apart. With a gentle and amiable smile, he said, “Not leaving, don’t get it. I’ve seen three hundred thousand; Chenyi’s card has over eight hundred thousand.”
Jiang Yuexi bristled, jumping up in anger, “You even know my brother’s savings?!”
Mr. Ghost smiled sweetly, delivering another blow, “I also know all his payment passwords and his gaming account passwords.”
The young man’s gaze towards Meng Loudi changed instantly.
“I thought you were just a naive kept man, but it turns out you’re quite scheming.”
Mr. Ghost was baffled: ???
Jiang Yuexi stared at him, pressing, “You could have taken my brother’s money and left, so why are you still here?”
If he were really a money-grubbing kept man, he would have run off long ago.
Meng Loudi calmly picked up a glass of water, took a sip, and said, “That’s why I said, I’m not here for the money, I’m here for the person. I want to spend my life with Chenyi.”
His eyes shone with determination as he looked at Jiang Yuexi, “Understand? And I’m not a kept man; soon, I’ll have my own career.”
Though he wasn’t sure what kind of position the supernatural beings would offer him, it would still be a job!
Having a job meant having a salary, and with a salary, he could support Chenyi!
He was definitely not a freeloading kept man!
Mr. Ghost thought to himself: Because of this, I’ve suffered a lot of grievances, and I definitely need compensation. Chenyi has to make it up to me!
Jiang Yuexi looked at the composed man for a while and then said, “You… really just want Chenyi-Ge?”
“Yes, I only want him,” Meng Loudi replied with a smile.
He had never hidden his intentions.
He wanted Jiang Chenyi.
From the moment Jiang Chenyi dared to take him in, he wanted to completely possess Jiang Chenyi.
Jiang Yuexi thought for a moment and then spoke honestly, “Actually, I believe you now, but I really can’t be sure you can resist temptation.”
“Temptation?”
“Yes, temptation. There are many temptations in this world. I don’t know where you came from, but to be honest, my brother isn’t that exceptional. He’s really quite ordinary.”
Jiang Yuexi spoke sincerely.
Really, Jiang Chenyi was a very ordinary person.
Apart from inheriting the Jiang Family’s superstitions and performing strange rituals on various holidays.
He had lived a plain life for over twenty years.
Apart from meeting Meng Loudi, there was nothing noteworthy.
No shining qualities.
Except for being gentle and easygoing.
But that was also a fatal flaw.
For someone like Meng Loudi, just his face alone was enough to attract countless admirers.
Faced with others who were more outstanding than Jiang Chenyi, could Meng Loudi hold himself back?
Meng Loudi looked at him, shook his head, and said, “No, to me, Chenyi is the most special person.”
Beside Jiang Chenyi, the jade ring that had imprisoned him for a thousand years finally released him.
Beside Jiang Chenyi, he found love and appreciation.
To him, Jiang Chenyi was the most special existence.
No matter how many people in the world resembled Jiang Chenyi.
Jiang Chenyi was Meng Loudi’s most treasured possession.
Jiang Yuexi looked at his earnest expression and fell silent.
Perhaps, really, this kept man from the countryside truly loved his brother.
Jiang Chenyi opened the door, carrying soy milk and fried dough sticks.
Mr. Ghost saw his treasure and quickly ran over to greet him, not forgetting to complain.
“Chenyi, Chenyi! Your cousin was bad-mouthing you just now!”
His expression was like a child tattling to a parent, with a hint of pride and seeking approval.
Jiang Chenyi silently looked at his cousin.
Jiang Yuexi thought to himself, I was wrong, this is a scheming kept man!
“What did he say about me?” Jiang Chenyi asked.
Meng Loudi took the breakfast from his hands and said, “He said you’re ordinary and called you dumb.”
Jiang Chenyi laughed, ruffling the man’s hair, “It’s okay, that’s normal.”
He was indeed a bit naive, soft-hearted, and very ordinary.
It was the truth.
Mr. Ghost sighed in disappointment, having hoped Chenyi would scold that brat.
He made a mental note.
Chenyi didn’t scold that annoying brat today, so he must make it up tonight.
Jiang Chenyi had no idea what nonsense his man was thinking.
He called Jiang Yuexi over, and the three of them ate together.
Jiang Yuexi ate tastelessly, knowing he was a third wheel.
After the meal, Jiang Yuexi wiped his mouth with restraint and threw himself into his cousin’s arms, “Brother, brother, brother! I’ve decided! I’m leaving!”
“Huh, what’s going on? Didn’t you say you wanted to have fun for a couple of days?” Jiang Chenyi hugged the little rascal and asked.
Jiang Yuexi lifted his head and complained, “This place is so boring, I finished exploring it when I was ten! I came all the way here to bring you something, just to see how you’re doing. Now that I’m sure you’re really happy, that’s enough.”
He flashed a bright smile, “Since I’m sure you’re living well, I should go. After all, I’m not like you, a free spirit. Every second of my time is valuable.”
Jiang Chenyi patted his head, smiling, “Alright, then you should go back.”
“Mm~” Jiang Yuexi was a bit reluctant, but his company was urging him, and he really couldn’t spare more time for his brother.
Then, Jiang Chenyi and Meng Loudi accompanied Jiang Yuexi to the train station.
In their small town, to catch a flight, they had to transfer elsewhere.
They watched the young man board the train.
The two of them walked home together.
Suddenly, Jiang Yuexi called Jiang Chenyi.
“Brother, brother, brother! Where are you now?” The young man shouted anxiously.
Jiang Chenyi frowned, “What’s wrong?”
“Is that guy with you?”
“…No.” Jiang Chenyi glanced at the curious Mr. Ghost beside him and lied.
“Really?”
“Really, he went to the convenience store.”
“Brother, I have to ask you something. Is Meng Loudi human?” The young man’s serious voice came through the phone.
Jiang Chenyi: “…Why are you asking that? If he’s not human, what is he?”
“Well, I didn’t think so before, but just now, I noticed he’s so pale, it’s scary! That kind of ghostly white!” The young man exclaimed.
“What are you thinking? You brat, if he’s not human, what else could he be? He’s that pale because he doesn’t go out much.” Jiang Chenyi said stiffly, “Alright, alright, go back to work and stop talking nonsense.”
“Oh, okay.”
Then the call ended.
Jiang Chenyi looked at his ghostly companion, his expression peculiar.
Meng Loudi had heard the voice on the phone, and he looked at him innocently.
“My dear Mr. Ghost, do you really look that inhuman?” The young man reached out, pinching the man’s jaw, examining him closely.
“You’re obviously very handsome.”
Jiang Chenyi murmured.
Meng Loudi let his lover handle him, his lips curving into a smile, “Maybe I’m so good-looking, I don’t seem human?”
“Narcissist.” Jiang Chenyi let go, starting to ponder.
“By the way, I never really knew what Yuexi does for a living. Could he be involved with supernatural beings too…”
Meng Loudi held the young man’s hand, leading him home.
“Probably not. I didn’t sense any other supernatural presence on him. Maybe he’s just imagining things?”
“Who knows.” Jiang Chenyi was still a bit worried.
Then, they continued happily living their two-person world.
As for the elders in the family, Jiang Chenyi had no plans to contact them for now.
If they found out he was dating a man, and that man wasn’t even human, well, Jiang Chenyi might have to apologize with his life.
In mid-August, the weather was unbearably hot.
The cicadas’ cries flooded in as soon as the window was opened.
For the sake of his own life, Jiang Chenyi wished he could spend every moment of the day by Mr. Ghost’s side.
Meng Loudi could cool down the air around him, at least in his immediate vicinity.
He was more effective than a fan.
As for why he didn’t just cool down the whole house.
Meng Loudi figured, if he did that, would Jiang still cling to him like a shadow, hugging him at every opportunity?
He wasn’t stupid.
Mr. Ghost took yogurt from the fridge, poured it over the prepared fruit, and handed it to the young man.
Jiang Chenyi accepted the lovingly prepared fruit salad from his lover and happily began to eat, saying, “I feel like I’ve been lazing around for almost a month. I should find a job. Look, my belly’s getting round.”
Jiang Chenyi had never been particularly muscular, but at least his stomach had been flat.
Now, it was different.
A little belly was starting to form.
Who knew when it might evolve into a beer belly.
He didn’t want that.
Meng Loudi, without any sense of guilt, touched the other’s belly, smiling, “So soft~”
Jiang rolled his eyes, “Of course, it’s all fat. It’s your fault!”
“Why is it my fault?” Mr. Ghost put on a pitiful expression again.
But Jiang was no longer buying it.
He fully understood now.
Their Mr. Ghost was a vengeful and petty snake in rabbit’s clothing.
He held grudges and was narrow-minded!
He loved to settle scores in bed!
Dog man!
He scooped a spoonful of fruit salad and fed it to Meng Loudi, watching him eat it, “Isn’t it because you’re always feeding me? My belly is all your doing!”
He was righteously indignant.
Mr. Ghost touched his now slightly fuller cheeks, saying, “Yes, it’s all my fault.”
Jiang Chenyi looked at him, suddenly leaned over, and kissed him.
He nonchalantly pulled back, continuing to eat from his bowl.
How to put it, he was becoming more and more affectionate.
Indeed, love makes people unlike themselves.
He never thought he would become like this one day.
Mr. Ghost licked his lips, smiling at the young man.
Indeed, no matter how he looked, he was adorable and lovable.
