Good Night, Mr. Ghost - Chapter 32
“What’s wrong with you?” Jiang lifted Mr. Ghost’s face in his hands, asking, “You weren’t like this before, were you?”
“What do you mean ‘like this’?” Mr. Ghost, with his beautiful face, showed a troubled expression.
“When Mom and Dad came back, didn’t you handle it well?” Jiang Chenyi frowned slightly.
Meng Loudi chuckled, nibbling on his lover’s earlobe, murmuring, “That’s different, isn’t it? They’re our parents, it’s not the same.”
He viewed this place as his tomb chamber, naturally loathing the intrusion of strangers.
Jiang Chenyi blinked, looking at his lover for a long moment before asking, “So, Loudi, are you…?”
How could he put it nicely?
A wolf in sheep’s clothing.
A black-hearted lotus.
Or something else entirely?
Meng Loudi snuggled closer, drawing out his words in a playful whine, “I don’t care, dislike is dislike. I only like our family, and I like Chenyi the most.”
Jiang: What else can I do? Whatever he says goes.
Jiang Chenyi couldn’t resist his man’s playful antics and had to give in.
After all, he’s just irritable, not murderous.
Meng Loudi felt everything about his lover.
Chenyi wasn’t angry, even when he showed this irritable side.
So, could he push it a bit further?
Show more of his true nature, carefully testing his lover’s limits.
Mr. Ghost’s lips curled into a mysterious smile.
Jiang was unaware of the mischief his man was planning.
The unemployed young man stayed home, living a life of indulgence.
Then, he got a beating from his mom.
It was a day in late June, the Dragon Boat Festival.
Mrs. Jiang arrived at the Jiang Family home early in the morning with Old Jiang, only to find her dear son-in-law cooking and cleaning.
Meanwhile, their foolish son was sitting in a computer chair playing games.
Mrs. Jiang grabbed her son’s ear, scolding, “Play, play, play! All you know is play! You little brat, can’t you help Meng with some chores?!”
Jiang Chenyi tugged at his mom’s hand, yelping, “Ow, ow, ow, Mom, it hurts!”
Perhaps Mrs. Jiang was too angry, and she actually managed to touch Jiang.
Once she let go, she turned back into an untouchable presence, looking at her son in surprise.
“Son, you can hear us?”
Jiang Chenyi turned his head, smiling ingratiatingly, “Not only can I hear, but I can also see now.”
Old Jiang looked at his son, his expression not too pleasant.
Meng Loudi continued cooking, paying them no mind.
Mrs. Jiang’s smile faded as well. She looked at her foolish son and sighed.
“This silly boy, I don’t know who he takes after.” The woman looked at Jiang Chenyi, turning to close the bedroom door.
Old Jiang sat on the bed, unplugging Jiang’s power cord.
Jiang Chenyi watched his dad’s guilty hands on the power source, feeling a pang of heartache.
But the aura of his parents was anything but pleasant.
Jiang wisely chose to keep quiet.
Mrs. Jiang looked into her son’s eyes, seeing her own reflection in them.
The woman’s tears fell instantly as she gently touched her son’s cheek, saying, “What a sin.”
Jiang Chenyi felt the faint touch, smiling, “Mom, what are you talking about?”
“Son, you’re human. Humans can’t see ghosts.” Mrs. Jiang looked at her son.
Old Jiang sighed from the bed, “What did I say back then? You didn’t listen, and now look.”
The young man looked at him, frowning, “Dad!”
Old Jiang glared at his son, “Dad, what dad! You little brat, even after we’re dead, you won’t let us rest easy!”
Jiang Chenyi rolled his eyes.
Old Jiang’s eyes bulged, pointing at his unfilial son, “Wife, look at your son!”
“He’s your son too!” Mrs. Jiang shouted back even more fiercely, then turned to her son, her eyes softening as she patted his hand, “Chenyi, listen to me, break up with Meng.”
Jiang Chenyi’s brow furrowed, “Mom, what are you saying?”
“Chenyi, it was my mistake back then. I should have stopped you two, shouldn’t have gone along with you.”
The woman’s breath quickened, “After all, humans and ghosts together, it’s not a good thing. Two worlds colliding, how could it be good? Chenyi, you have to leave him, you can’t continue!”
Jiang Chenyi’s face turned cold.
“Mom, what do you mean by that?”
“Chenyi, I’d rather you grow old alone than see you die young! Why did Meng Loudi become like a normal person? Why can you see ghosts? None of this is good!” Mrs. Jiang clutched her son’s hand, trying to persuade him.
“For your own good, you have to separate.”
Jiang Chenyi looked at his mom, chuckling softly, “Mom, it’s too late. We’re already together, it’s not something you can just break apart. This is already set in stone.”
The young man’s smile faded, unexpectedly taking on a cold edge.
His mother’s expression faltered at her son’s demeanor.
Mr. Jiang looked at his son, sighing, “Wife, it’s no use. He’s already fallen in too deep.”
His son had sunk into the quagmire named Meng Loudi.
How could a few simple words pull him out?
Mrs. Jiang didn’t believe it. She looked at her son, saying, “Chenyi, listen to me, you really can’t continue, you have to live well.”
Jiang Chenyi placed his hand gently on the woman’s cheek, chuckling softly, “Mom, don’t you understand? For me, how long I live isn’t the issue. I just want a home of my own, my own light, someone to spend the rest of my life with, no matter how long that might be.”
He looked at his mother, speaking each word with a hint of fierceness, “I’ve had enough of being alone. I don’t want to be alone anymore. I won’t let go of Meng Loudi.”
Mrs. Jiang realized her son was determined to stay with Meng Loudi, even if it meant risking his life.
The woman staggered back a few steps, disheartened.
Mr. Jiang held his wife, looking at the son who was no longer the little boy he once was, smiling, “Chenyi has grown up, able to make his own decisions. Whatever you do, as long as you don’t regret it. We can’t stay with you much longer, as ghosts like us, it’s about time to reincarnate.”
The young man sat on the chair, smiling gently.
“Alright, you can go. I can take care of myself.”
His parents should have left long ago, but it was their useless son who held them back.
“When you’re about to leave, come see me one more time.” The young man smiled.
“We’ll say a proper goodbye, and in the next life, I’ll still be your son.”
Mr. Jiang laughed, scolding, “Who wants you as a son? In the next life, your mom and I will have a daughter. We’re not raising a son again.”
Mrs. Jiang wiped her tears, saying nothing.
The young man tilted his head, “Alright, I’ll be your daughter in the next life.”
Mrs. Jiang cried even harder, and Old Jiang, supporting his wife, walked through the wall, leaving the place.
Jiang sighed, “So willful.”
How can something be over just because it’s said to be over?
Mr. Ghost gently pushed open the door, looking at Jiang Chenyi, asking, “Are Mom and Dad gone?”
“Yeah, they’re gone.” Jiang looked at him, mischievously asking, “After hearing what my parents said, how do you feel?”
“Hmm.” Meng Loudi thought for a moment, his red lips parting to reveal white teeth, “I was just thinking, if you agreed with them, what would I do.”
The young man, feeling no sense of crisis, pressed, “What would you do?”
Mr. Ghost suddenly appeared in front of him, pressing down on the sides of the computer chair, bringing his face close, whispering, “I’d kill them, then keep you by my side forever-Chenyi, if you dare leave me, I’ll make you regret it for a lifetime.”
It was a threat, a menace.
The young man sighed, “How could I dare leave you? Loudi, I’m starting to understand.”
“Understand what?” Mr. Ghost lightly touched his lips.
“Understand that you’re a monster.” The young man chuckled.
A monster driven mad by love for him.
But it’s okay, he can accept it all.
Because he doesn’t want to be alone anymore, nor does he want his Mr. Ghost to be alone.
Everyone is an island, drifting on the boundless sea.
But they met, the islands collided, merging into one.
If they separate, both will bleed.
Inseparable, unyielding, unrelenting.
Mr. Ghost heard this and laughed softly.
The laughter came from deep in his chest, low and pleasant.
Jiang kissed his thin lips, pulling back, asking, “So, what are we having for dinner tonight?”
“I made noodles, with two soft-boiled eggs for you. Do you like it?” Meng Loudi looked at him.
His eyes shone with light.
So beautiful.
Jiang thought.
His Mr. Ghost is so beautiful.
He squinted his eyes with a smile, “I like it.”
Life goes on.
Even if Meng Loudi is a big pervert, Jiang Chenyi has accepted reality.
And Meng Loudi isn’t that perverted, at least he just can’t stand Jiang Chenyi leaving him.
At least they haven’t played any captivity games.
A few days later, Jiang Chenyi received a call from Jiang Yuexi.
A clear voice came through the phone.
“Brother, brother! I’m here, and I have your man’s ID card! Open the door, open the door!”
Jiang Chenyi opened the door for him.
A young man with blonde hair, wearing colorful clothes, rushed in, “Brother, brother! I missed you so much!”
Jiang Chenyi hugged the young man, smiling, “Why did you come over? You could have just mailed it to me.”
“How could I do that!” Jiang Yuexi lifted his head, righteously declaring, “My brother finally called me, and it’s my brother-in-law’s ID card, so I had to bring it over! And to meet him, what’s his name, Meng Loudi, right?”
He looked around, his gaze somewhat unfriendly.
Who is this dog man who took his brother away?!
And he’s an unregistered citizen!
Where does he get the nerve?!
Meng Loudi came out of the kitchen with a plate of fruit, seeing the stranger hugging his Chenyi, his brow furrowed before relaxing, asking, “And who is this?”
His face bore a gentle smile, exuding the aura of a perfect homemaker.
Jiang Yuexi was stunned, looking at the tall, handsome young man, then at his cousin, pulling him aside, whispering, “Bro, amazing, a real beauty, where did you find him?”
Jiang Chenyi pushed away his cheeky cousin, saying, “Isn’t he? He’s mine.”
His tone was full of pride.
Jiang Yuexi looked at his cousin, really, it seemed he had returned to normal.
The young man flashed a big smile, “I want one too.”
