Good Night, Mr. Ghost - Chapter 31
Xu Moli, who had been whisked away by Lin Yi, was now sitting on a train. Lin Yi had taken her, along with her ID and other belongings. The young girl’s eyes were shadowed with loneliness. She wondered if her father would come looking for her.
Lin Yi, holding her own ID and bank card, leaned bonelessly against the girl’s shoulder. Sensing her companion’s desolation, she leaned in, kissed her cheek affectionately, and whispered, “Don’t worry, we’ll be happy from now on.”
Xu Moli looked at the girl, who now seemed no different from an ordinary person, bit her lip, and smiled gently. Yes, no matter what, Yi was the one who loved her the most. Her father and sister wouldn’t be sad for long. Her stepmother didn’t like her; maybe leaving the family would make her father happier.
What would the future hold? The sky remained clear, the crescent moon hung high, and stars dotted the night. Their future would be bright too.
Jiang Chenyi and Meng Loudi had also come to an understanding. For supernatural beings like them, it was best to find an organization. Meng Loudi had spoken with Bai Lu. Bai Lu said they would send professionals to assess Meng Loudi’s level and then assign him a position. Of course, in a small city like theirs, if it weren’t for the appearance of a millennium-old ghost like Meng Loudi, even an officer wouldn’t show up here.
Jiang Chenyi received a call from Mr. Ghost and had a plan in mind. He might have to face the dilemma of moving after losing his job. Whether to move or not was a question.
The young man sat in his seat, sighed melancholically. He had planned to live out his days in solitude here, but Meng Loudi had disrupted all his plans. He would have to think carefully about it.
In the afternoon, after Jiang finished his class, Wang Yi found him to tell him they were about to close down.
“Jiang, I’m leaving tomorrow.” The woman had a rosy complexion, and happiness shone in her eyes.
“Alright, have you packed everything?” Jiang asked.
Wang Yi nodded, “Yes, I’ve also transferred your salary for this month to your account. Jiang, what are you planning to do next?”
“Me? I’ll see. I might leave here too,” the young man replied with a helpless smile.
“Really? That’s good. A man should go out and explore,” Wang Yi said with a smile. “Don’t bury your prime years here.”
Jiang Chenyi looked at her, shrugged, “Everyone has their own aspirations. Actually, I really like it here.”
This small city had a warmth to it. Life moved at a leisurely pace. It was slow and unhurried.
Wang Yi tilted her head, “This place is indeed suitable for retirement, but you’re still young, Jiang. Come back when you’re old. Go see the world. Take your man with you.”
Jiang left the tutoring class. He wouldn’t be coming back here. His days as a tutoring teacher had ended. Returning home, he unexpectedly felt a sense of relief.
The young man entered his house and saw the young man waiting for him with an apron on. He smiled, “Loudi, I’ve lost my job.”
Meng Loudi chuckled softly, “It’s okay, I’ll take care of you.”
Jiang walked over, hugged the man’s waist, and rested his head on his chest. There, he could hear a heartbeat. His Mr. Ghost had a heartbeat now.
They cuddled for a while, and then there was a knock on the door. Mr. Ghost opened the door remotely, “Come in.”
A petite girl with curly brown hair entered. She wore a coffee-colored dress and round-toed shoes, with a cute face and big brown eyes. She tiptoed in and said, “Hello, I’m Brownish, a colleague of Bai Lu and also an officer. He couldn’t make it, so he sent me…”
Brownish. A strange yet cute name.
Jiang stood up, “Please, have a seat.”
Brownish sniffed the air, lowered her voice even more, “I’m here to assess Mr. Meng Loudi’s abilities. Is it convenient now?”
Meng Loudi nodded, “It’s convenient.”
Compared to his attitude towards Jiang, he was much colder now. Except for Jiang’s parents and Jiang Chenyi, he was indifferent and distant to others.
Brownish cautiously approached, took out an orb from her small bag, and said, “This is a spirit energy orb. Mr. Meng, please transfer your spirit energy, no, ghostly aura into it.”
Her hands looked soft as she carefully handed the orb to Jiang Chenyi, tears welling up in her eyes, her voice trembling, “Please, handsome guy, help me give it to him.”
Her legs twitched occasionally, and she seemed to shrink back. She was really scared! This wasn’t just any small demon like her; this was a nearly thousand-year-old demon!
Jiang Chenyi couldn’t help but laugh, took the orb, and handed it to Meng Loudi, reassuring her, “He’s not scary at all, don’t be afraid.”
Brownish nodded, trying hard to suppress her urge to run away. As a colleague of Mr. Bai in the eighth district, one of the twelve officers, she had to maintain her composure! She couldn’t back down!
Mr. Ghost didn’t care about the little demon who was scared to death of him. He looked at the orb in his hand and began to infuse it with spirit energy indifferently.
As the input increased, the previously transparent orb began to darken with an intense blackness. In less than a minute, it was filled with inky darkness.
Brownish’s ears perked up suddenly. She looked at the orb, took out her phone, and made a call. After a few beeps, the other party answered.
Brownish hurriedly said, “Mr. Bai! Mr. Meng has filled the spirit energy orb! What should I do? Please come quickly! I can’t handle this!”
Her voice was on the verge of tears. Her ears and tail had popped out.
Jiang Chenyi looked at the fluffy long ears and thought: So she’s a rabbit, no wonder she’s so timid.
Yes, Brownish was indeed a little brown rabbit.
Bai Lu answered the call on the other end, saying something unknown. Brownish sniffed, reaffirmed, “You must come quickly.”
Her voice was a bit aggrieved.
After hanging up, Brownish looked at Mr. Ghost again, “Mr. Meng, that’s enough. Please retract your ghostly aura.”
Mr. Ghost shrugged, the blackness receded, and the spirit energy orb returned to its crystal-clear state.
Jiang brought over a chair for Brownish, “Have a seat.”
Brownish nodded, sat down cautiously, but her legs continued to twitch.
Jiang looked at the tense girl, thought for a moment, and went into the kitchen.
Meng Loudi looked at Brownish, “Does this mean anything?”
Brownish looked at him sharply, clutching her dress tightly, “Well, the spirit energy orb can only be turned pure by a few chiefs…”
She lowered her head again, not daring to look directly at him.
Mr. Ghost nodded, not asking further. He was afraid this rabbit spirit would cry. Then Jiang would definitely scold him.
“Here.” Jiang came out of the kitchen, holding two small bowls, and handed one to the girl.
It was carrot fruit salad.
Brownish took the bowl in surprise, at a loss.
“Eat, relax. Loudi won’t do anything to you.” The young man smiled gently, holding the other bowl as he sat beside Mr. Ghost.
Jiang fed Mr. Ghost with practiced ease.
Brownish, smelling the sweet scent of carrots, began to eat with a small spoon. For a moment, the room was filled with warmth.
When Bai Lu arrived at the Jiang Family in a hurry, he saw the little rabbit obediently eating salad. He breathed a sigh of relief, tidied his clothes at the door, and walked in with an air of confidence.
“Brownish, how is it?”
The little rabbit, happily eating carrots, heard Bai Lu’s voice, and her ears drooped instantly. She turned to look at Bai Lu, tears welling up as she accused, “It’s super scary! Really super scary! How could Mr. Bai send Brownish here!”
Mr. Bai must have known the other’s background. Yet, he still sent the weak and helpless Brownish!
Big meanie!
Brownish glared at Bai Lu.
Bai Lu walked over, patted her soft ears, “Isn’t everything fine? Are the carrots good?”
“Delicious,” the rabbit said earnestly.
Then a few more people appeared at the Jiang Family’s door. They entered, some male, some female, all looking like normal people.
Jiang Chenyi shivered under their gaze, as if they were looking at some rare species.
Of course, these supernatural beings were looking at Meng Loudi.
Mr. Ghost accepted their scrutiny with an unchanged expression. The spirit energy orb was still in his hand.
Bai Lu looked at Meng Loudi, “Could you please demonstrate again, Mr. Meng?”
Meng Loudi clicked his tongue and demonstrated once more. The group watched the spirit energy orb in his hand, whispering among themselves.
Then Bai Lu said, “Could we take this orb with us? Of course, we’ll return it to you later.”
“Whatever,” Meng Loudi’s patience had run out. He tossed the orb over, “If there’s nothing else, please leave.”
Being watched like a monkey was really annoying. Especially in his and Jiang Chenyi’s private space. This made Meng Loudi even more impatient and irritable.
Bai Lu secured the spirit energy orb, nodded, “Alright, please be patient. We’ll get back to you within a month at the latest.”
He took the spirit energy orb and left the Jiang Family with the group.
Brownish wiggled her long ears, placed the bowl on the table, and bowed goodbye.
“Goodbye, thank you for the carrots, handsome guy.” With that, she hopped away.
Once everyone had left, the door slammed shut with a loud bang, reflecting Mr. Ghost’s displeasure.
Jiang was taken aback, looked at Meng Loudi, and saw the man’s handsome face shadowed with gloom.
“You…”
What was going on?
Jiang Chenyi had never seen Meng Loudi lose his temper before.
Mr. Ghost looked at him, suddenly kissed him, his breath unstable, biting down hard with a hint of ferocity.
Jiang let him bite, soothingly patting his back. Gradually, Mr. Ghost’s actions became gentle again.
He released his lover, sighed softly, “Chenyi, I’m so frustrated.”
“What’s wrong?” Jiang Chenyi gently patted his back.
Mr. Ghost held him, his voice chilling, “I hate having other people in our home, hate it to death, especially when there are so many. I just want to get rid of them.”
Jiang Chenyi was stunned. Why would he have such thoughts?
What was happening to Meng Loudi?
Their Mr. Ghost wasn’t like this.
