Good Night, Mr. Ghost - Chapter 30
Xu Moli clung to Lin Yi’s arm, cautiously glancing over at the scene. Lin Yi had resumed her normal form, standing tall at about 1.7 meters, with Xu Moli leaning against her side like a delicate bird seeking shelter.
A man in a white trench coat stood behind Jiang Chenyi, resting a hand on the young man’s shoulder.
“Yi?” Xu Moli asked, her mind a jumble of confusion, relying solely on Lin Yi for clarity.
Lin Yi shrugged, her beautiful face displaying a lazy confidence. “Don’t worry, it’s all fine.”
The non-human who had captured the young man nodded, smiling. “Lin Yi, well done. Here, this should be enough for you to take your treasure and fly far away. If you need anything else, just give me a call.”
A bank card spun through the air and landed in Lin Yi’s hand.
Jiang Chenyi: “Huh???”
What on earth was going on?
Lin Yi held the card, smiling. “Handsome guy, don’t worry, we mean no harm.”
Xu Moli widened her eyes, foolishly clutching Lin Yi’s hand. “Lin Yi, what are you doing?”
The female ghost looked at her, smiling. “Moli darling, I’m a big bad wolf, and you can’t save me. So, do you regret it now?”
Xu Moli blinked, looking at Jiang Chenyi. “No regrets, but Yi, we can’t sell the teacher.”
Jiang Chenyi felt a bit touched.
But it seemed pointless.
After all, Lin Yi planned to take the money from selling him and run away with Xu Moli.
Heh.
This was definitely premeditated.
The ghost binding him chuckled. “Don’t worry, Mr. Jiang, we just want to invite your beloved out for a little gathering.”
Jiang: Damn it, not only did they kidnap him, but now they’re targeting his man.
Trash!
Lin Yi looked at the expressionless young man, ruffling Xu Moli’s hair. “It’s okay, if you’re really worried, just wait here. If he’s in danger, I’ll step in to help.”
Then, the non-human binding Jiang Chenyi said, “Mr. Jiang, please.”
Jiang closed his eyes, opened them, and called out, “Meng Loudi.”
No response.
“My dear Mr. Ghost?”
No response.
“Loudi, darling, honey, I’m about to be killed!”
Jiang Chenyi pleaded expressionlessly.
Xu Moli puffed her cheeks, trying hard not to laugh.
Though she felt sorry for the teacher, he was just too funny.
Then, a wisp of smoke drifted out from the bracelet, transforming into the form of Jiang Chenyi’s own Mr. Ghost.
Meng Loudi’s face darkened instantly upon seeing his bound lover.
“Release him.” His voice was icy.
The man in white immediately untied him.
Jiang, now free, rushed to Mr. Ghost’s side, stammering as he tried to explain. In the end, he gave up and buried his head in Mr. Ghost’s neck. “Loudi, I’ve been sold.”
Lin Yi remained unfazed.
The man in white looked at Meng Loudi, a somewhat obsequious smile on his refined face. “Hehe, please don’t take it the wrong way, we mean no harm.”
Meng Loudi held his lover, asking, “No harm? Are you trying to traffic people?”
“No, no, this was just a little method to draw you out,” the man in white explained. “I just wanted to meet you.”
“Why?” Meng Loudi frowned.
The man in white smirked, a hint of arrogance in his smile. “I’m Bai Lu, an officer of the Alliance of Supernatural Beings. I oversee this area, and recently, someone reported an extraordinary presence here. So, to meet you, I had to resort to this method.”
Jiang looked up at him. “Alliance of Supernatural Beings?”
“Yes, normally you wouldn’t know about us. After all, this is the age of technology. We, as supernatural beings, must be discreet, hiding in plain sight. We’re the organization responsible for maintaining order, preventing any non-human from doing irreparable harm.”
Mr. Ghost wrapped an arm around the young man’s shoulder. “So, what do you want?”
“Nothing much, really. According to our investigation, you seem to be a thousand-year-old ghost, which is quite remarkable on our roster. We just wanted to ask if you need any assistance.” Bai Lu smiled. “After all, your lover doesn’t seem to be able to provide much convenience for you.”
Mr. Ghost paused, asking, “What can you offer?”
The ghost, who had always been “living under someone else’s roof,” truly longed for “economic independence.”
He also wanted to be someone his lover could rely on.
Bai Lu observed his expression, sensing an opportunity.
With a formal smile, he said, “After our assessment, we can offer you a position, along with a salary, housing, and benefits. Of course, if you’re strong enough, there’s a chief position available for you.”
“In our Alliance of Supernatural Beings, there are twelve chiefs. Currently, a few positions are vacant due to the requirements for experience and ability. We have 144 officers and thousands of various small soldiers. And there are quite a few like that one over there, the free-range type.”
“Where do you get the money?” Jiang asked.
To support such a large organization, there must be a substantial amount of funds.
“We have reserves. If we’re really short on cash, we sell some things or start companies. There are various private jobs we can take on.”
Bai Lu looked at Meng Loudi. “So, our organization is really quite good. Mr. Meng, would you consider it?”
“Let me think about it. I need to discuss it with my lover.” Mr. Ghost replied.
Bai Lu shrugged. “Alright, alright, here, this is my card. You can call me when you’ve made up your mind.”
With that, he vaulted over the railing and jumped down.
Jiang gasped, watching as the man touched down mid-air and flew away.
Mr. Ghost cast a cold glance at the two in the corner.
Lin Yi patted her hair, smiling. “In that case, we’ll be off too.”
With that, she scooped Xu Moli into a princess carry and jumped down as well.
Jiang: “……”
Why does everyone like jumping off buildings?
Meng Loudi grasped his hand, their fingers interlocking.
“Chenyi, shall we go home too?”
“Okay.” The young man puffed his cheeks and nodded.
The two walked down the stairs like normal people, strolling slowly through the school.
Until they reached the school wall.
Mr. Ghost picked up Jiang, leaping over the wall, and gently set him down.
Once Jiang was steady, he asked, “Loudi, do you want to join them?”
“What about you, Chenyi? Do you want me to go?” Meng Loudi looked at the young man, his pale fingers caressing the young man’s cheek gently. “Whatever you say goes.”
Jiang obediently rested his face in the other’s palm, feeling the coolness of his fingers. “Go ahead, you can’t be a househusband forever.”
He knew Meng Loudi wanted to be his support, to protect him.
Previously, due to issues with identification and qualifications, Meng Loudi couldn’t get a proper job.
He was a bit disappointed about that.
Mr. Ghost lowered his head slightly, gazing into his lover’s eyes. “Is it really okay?”
“Why not? If you have a job, maybe it’ll distract you a bit. By the way, do ghosts like biting people? Or does our blood have some special effect on you?”
Jiang and Mr. Ghost walked hand in hand.
Mr. Ghost chuckled softly. “I don’t know, but making you cry is quite satisfying.”
Jiang: “……”
Jiang stopped in his tracks, seemingly embarrassed and angry, stomping on his man’s foot. Of course, he didn’t let go of his hand.
After stomping, he didn’t forget to add a comment.
“You pervert!”
Stomped but still being led forward, Meng Loudi laughed.
Yes, he was a pervert, madly in love with Jiang Chenyi.
As they walked, Jiang asked, “Are we walking home?”
“Isn’t it nice? Just the two of us. It’s been a while since we’ve done this, right?” Mr. Ghost expressed his fondness for strolling with Jiang.
Meng Loudi’s voice was filled with anticipation.
Jiang looked at him, then turned around. “My dear Mr. Ghost, if you have any thoughts, just say them. I’m not a mind reader, you know.”
“Mm.” Meng Loudi’s eyes curved with a smile.
“I want Chenyi, want to make Chenyi cry uncontrollably. Is that okay?” His husky voice was full of allure.
Jiang’s ears turned red instantly. He turned around, snapping, “No way!”
This guy really needed a beating!
The two bickered all the way home.
It was almost eleven o’clock.
Jiang yawned.
Mr. Ghost nudged him into the bathroom. “Go wash up, then we can sleep.”
Jiang squeezed out toothpaste, mumbling, “Just sleep, okay.”
“Mm.” Mr. Ghost watched him with gentle eyes.
Once Jiang finished washing up, it was Mr. Ghost’s turn.
He climbed into bed, pulling the covers over himself, pondering life.
Yi-Jie’s tutoring class was about to close.
Meng Loudi was about to join that Alliance of Supernatural Beings.
What about him?
Should he continue staying at home, or find another job?
Hmm, something to think about.
And would their Mr. Ghost become an officer or something else?
Would he be transferred elsewhere?
Hmm, so annoying.
Jiang rolled around in bed, tossing and turning.
Meng Loudi entered the room, seeing Jiang rolling around restlessly.
He got into bed, pressing down on the restless young man. “What’s wrong?”
Jiang looked at him with dead fish eyes. “I forgot to tell you, I’m about to be unemployed, maybe in three days, or three months.”
Meng Loudi kissed him. “It’s okay, I’ll support you with my side job.”
Right, Mr. Ghost still didn’t have an ID.
Jiang hugged his waist. “Mm, in a few days, Yuexi should have everything ready. I’ll ask him tomorrow.”
“Mm.” Meng Loudi kissed his lover’s head.
Jiang, wary, pressed his mouth. “Just sleep.”
“Mm.” Mr. Ghost’s eyes curved, looking harmless and gentle.
Jiang snuggled closer, mumbling, “I’m really too sleepy, can’t take it anymore, so tired. My dear Mr. Ghost, goodnight.”
Meng Loudi felt his lover’s grip slowly loosen, holding the young man’s slender body.
With a click, the light went out.
