Good Night, Mr. Ghost - Chapter 20
Jiang quietly closed the door behind him, looking at his partner with a soft voice, “What’s going on here?”
“I’m not sure either, maybe it’s Luo Hui’s family?”
“Hmm, should we just leave it alone for now?”
“It’s their family matter, we shouldn’t interfere,” Mr. Ghost replied, gently guiding his beloved towards the dining table.
“I made some braised ribs today, give them a try,” Meng Loudi said with a gentle and caring smile.
Jiang was deeply touched.
If it weren’t for his partner’s occasional aggressive tendencies, he would definitely be everyone’s ideal of a perfect spouse.
After the two finished their meal, a loud bang came from outside the door.
Startled, Jiang flinched, dropping his phone onto the floor.
No time to worry about the phone.
Perfect excuse to get a new one, wait, what am I thinking?
Jiang Chenyi looked towards the door, “What was that?”
Could it be that Luo Hui refused to open the door, and that woman blew it up?
Mr. Ghost glanced at the door and clicked his tongue.
In that instant, the door burst open.
A gray shadow darted in.
Along with a few furry figures.
Luo Hui, looking disheveled, crouched low, his glasses nowhere to be found, baring his teeth and glaring angrily outside.
A pair of furry gray ears stood atop his head, and a bushy tail swayed behind him.
An orange cat beside him assumed an aggressive stance, while two calico cats bristled.
Jiang: “…”
He looked at Mr. Ghost, dazed, and asked, “Am I dreaming?”
Otherwise, how could he see Luo Hui with ears and a tail?
Meng Loudi smiled slightly, “No.”
A woman stepped in from outside, the same one who had been knocking on Luo Hui’s door earlier.
She held a sharp sword, her gaze indifferent as she swept over Jiang and Mr. Ghost, finally settling on Luo Hui.
Her voice was so cold it could freeze.
“Hui, come back with me.”
Luo Hui bared his sharp teeth, a growl rumbling from his throat, intimidating the intruder.
The woman raised her sword, sighing softly, “Hui, I don’t like it when you’re disobedient.”
Luo Hui laughed in anger, “Listen to you? It’s always been you listening to me!”
Luo Yun looked at the cat demon seriously, “Be good and listen, I’ll take you home.”
“And then? Luo Yun! You take me back to your family, and then what? Who are you going to give me to?!” Luo Hui shrieked, his cat eyes wide, veins bulging in anger.
The woman frowned, “We won’t give you away.”
“Lies, all lies…”
The cat demon, looking like a young man, bit his lip in frustration, drawing blood.
The other three cats remained hostile, backs arched, growling.
Perhaps seeing the sadness in Luo Hui’s expression, Luo Yun felt a pang in her heart, softening her voice, “Luo Hui, uncle, come back with me, everything will be better once we’re home.”
Luo Hui trembled all over.
Hearing that special term of endearment, the cat demon’s expression grew even more sorrowful.
“You disappeared for so long before, I didn’t know where you were. Now that I’ve finally found you, come back with me,” the woman pleaded, lowering her sword and taking a few steps forward.
Luo Hui suddenly raised his head, firing off a series of questions.
“And what about you? Your engagement? If I go back, what does that make me?! Or are you willing to give up everything? Do you know why you couldn’t find me all those years?”
The woman paused, standing still, “Luo Hui, I have my responsibilities. As the legitimate eldest daughter of the Luo Family, I have to make sacrifices. But the elders have agreed to let me keep you, we can go back together. As for why I couldn’t find you before, wasn’t it because you were too cunning, making it impossible for me to track you down?”
She smiled gently, looking at the cat demon as if he were a mischievous pet.
“I know you blame me for not caring about you before, for not being willing to sacrifice for you, but I’ll change, really. Luo Hui, come back with me.”
Her face showed a pleading expression, overlapping for a moment with the little girl she once was.
But Luo Hui was no longer the same as before.
Luo Hui scoffed, asking in return, “When you have an engagement, when you have a fiancé? What am I to you then?”
He felt utterly humiliated!
Who the hell wants the love of a woman with an engagement?!
Why did he ever fall for this woman?!
Perhaps it was the long companionship that gave rise to love?
Now that he’s broken free from the fog of love, Luo Hui finally sees clearly.
As for Luo Yun?
She can go to hell!
Luo Yun’s smile vanished instantly, looking at the cat demon, “Do I have to use force?”
“You already have!” Luo Hui retorted angrily.
Jiang: “…”
Jiang was a bit dumbfounded, not knowing what was going on.
Why did Luo Hui turn into a cat demon, and why was there a woman fighting at their house?
The woman swung her sword, engaging in a fierce battle with Luo Hui.
The young man’s hands were replaced by gray cat claws, clashing with the sharp sword, quickly leaving bloody marks.
Blood splattered as the sword swung.
Jiang was stunned, grabbing his partner in a hurry, “Hey, hey, hey! Loudi, Luo Hui, Luo Hui!”
Though he didn’t know what was happening, he couldn’t just watch that silly guy who always came over for food and drinks get killed.
Mr. Ghost surely had a way!
Meng Loudi didn’t disappoint Jiang, appearing instantly beside Luo Hui, with a gentle wave of his hand, pushing the woman back.
Luo Yun was startled, barely steadying herself with her sword, looking at the intervening ghost, snorting coldly, “You wicked creature, I wasn’t going to bother with you, yet you come to me?”
“No choice, my Niang Zi1 commands,” Meng Loudi replied with a light-hearted smile.
The woman’s expression changed, looking at the man curled up on the sofa, then at the ghost, her face turning livid, “Such a relationship, isn’t it disgusting?”
Her words caused the three present to change their expressions.
Meng Loudi raised his hand, “Didn’t expect you to speak so unpleasantly.”
Jiang thought: Mr. Ghost, hit her!
Don’t spare her just because she’s a silly flower!
“What’s unpleasant? I’m just stating the truth. You people, I really don’t understand, why choose men over perfectly good women,” Luo Yun sneered.
She despised these people the most.
They went against the harmony of yin and yang2, they were aberrations.
Just looking at them made her sick.
Jiang: “…”
What’s your problem? My love life bothering you?
“Loudi, hit her,” the timid Jiang instructed his partner.
The man obediently complied.
Being a thousand-year-old ghost, his powers were naturally unmatched by ordinary people.
Even if he were weak, dealing with a woman in her twenties was a piece of cake.
Moreover, Meng Loudi wasn’t weak.
And so, Luo Yun was thrown out.
The woman got up from the ground angrily, covered in dust, glaring at Meng Loudi, pointing at him, “Just you wait! You’ll regret this!”
Meng Loudi tilted his head, “Oh.”
He didn’t care at all.
What could these people possibly do?
The old Taoists and monks from centuries ago couldn’t handle him, what could they do now?
Luo Yun reluctantly glanced at the cat demon, then turned and fled.
Luo Hui looked at them, his ears drooping, and said softly, “I’m sorry for causing you trouble.”
“No worries, no worries,” Jiang, with a big heart, waved it off, not caring at all, “By the way, Luo Hui, are you a cat demon?”
His eyes were filled with wonder as he looked at Luo Hui, clicking his tongue in amazement.
Luo Hui crouched down, holding a calico cat, and nodded.
“I’m a gray cat. I’ve been cultivating for over three hundred years.”
Meng Loudi sat on the sofa with an unchanged expression, wrapping an arm around the young man’s waist.
Jiang, feeling secure, patted the seat beside him, “Luo Hui, come sit over here, quick, quick!”
Luo Hui obediently moved over.
Perhaps Jiang Chenyi really was brave.
He wasn’t afraid even after seeing a cat demon.
The young man, with warm brown eyes, looked at Luo Hui’s still black eyes and asked, “And your eyes?”
“Wearing colored contacts,” Luo Hui deftly removed the lenses, revealing the golden cat eyes underneath.
Jiang let out an exclamation.
To think he could wear colored contacts, wasn’t Luo Hui afraid of poking his eyes out?
Meng Loudi, holding his lover, looked at the cat demon with newfound respect.
Luo Hui sighed, retracting his ears and tail, looking at the young man.
“I’m really sorry for causing trouble, but Luo Yun is from the Luo Family, we should leave here quickly.”
“Hmm, what happens if we don’t leave?” Jiang asked.
He wasn’t planning on moving!
Moving was such a hassle.
Costly and tiring.
Luo Hui looked at him, curving his lips into a bitter smile, “We’ll be killed. The Luo Family has been around for hundreds of years, they’re a great family of Taoist scholars. When Luo Yun brings people, we won’t be able to resist them.”
Meng Loudi snorted, “Can’t resist? Maybe it should be the other way around.”
He’s lived for nearly a thousand years and hasn’t seen many truly skilled Taoists or monks.
Those who were truly skilled wouldn’t casually interfere with others’ karma.
Heaven has its own way.
The cat demon looked at the ghost, lowering his eyes, “Actually, the Luo Family isn’t the most feared, the Liu Family is…”
“Huh?” Jiang was confused.
Why was there suddenly a “Liu Family”?
Meng Loudi wrapped an arm around his waist, leaning in to whisper, “Forgot? This little guy might also be hiding from someone.”
Didn’t he mention it when they were making assumptions?
Jiang Chenyi was stunned, “Then what’s your deal?”
Caught by the Luo Family and chased by the Liu Family.
Truly pitiful.
“Well…” the cat demon bit his lip, reluctant to bring it up, “We should leave quickly, go somewhere remote, they won’t find us.”
Jiang hugged his partner, shaking his head, “No way, my parents’ memorial tablets are still here!”
The cat demon lifted his head, urgently saying, “Then let’s hide for a while! When they come and find we’ve escaped, they won’t bother us much. Chenyi, you don’t want any of us to get hurt, do you?”
His cat eyes sparkled, pleading as he looked at the young man.
Jiang hesitated.
Indeed, he didn’t want anyone to get hurt.
If they could leave here and lay low, those people probably wouldn’t bother them too much, right?
“Loudi, what do you think?” Jiang instinctively sought his lover’s advice.
Meng Loudi looked at the young man, a smile suddenly curving his lips, “Chenyi, let’s go on a trip.”
“What?” Jiang’s mind was about to short-circuit.
“Let’s go on a trip, take a half-month vacation and come back,” Mr. Ghost suggested.
“So, still laying low.” Jiang nodded.
He didn’t want a battle to destroy his home.
