Chapter 7
Ms. Zheng didn’t catch the hidden meaning in the words and quickly accepted them.
“Not going abroad is fine. I’m planning to settle down here, so I can take care of things occasionally.”
As soon as the word “settle” came out, Jiang Ye’s expression changed.
“You’re staying in the country?”
“Zheng Meimei, aren’t you the one who loves the moon abroad the most? Why come back to the country?”
A series of questions quickly made Ms. Zheng lose face.
“Ye!”
“Daniel has already obtained a green card, and our family will soon be reunited. Even if you don’t like them, you should at least pretend!”
Jiang Ye: “Ha!”
His reaction was even bigger than seeing his long-lost mother have another child. His inscrutable gaze first swept over Ms. Zheng, then deeply over me, before he left the table with a cold face.
Only Ms. Zheng and I remained at the dining table.
“Yao.”
Ms. Zheng took a few moments to calm her emotions before showing me a gentle smile.
“You’ve become more and more beautiful. You must have been doing well these past few years?”
“When I had Teddy, I was already of advanced age, often in the hospital for pregnancy care, so I didn’t have much energy to keep in touch with you.”
“Looking at how you and Ye get along, it’s much more harmonious than between him and me.”
I listened silently for a long time, until I heard the last sentence, and couldn’t help but lift my eyes.
“Where do you plan to stay this time back in the country?”
“I have a villa in the suburbs, I’ll move there directly.”
“And Jiang Ye? Will he move with you?”
At this point, Ms. Zheng fell silent.
After a while, she smiled: “Yao, since it’s you, I’ll be straightforward.”
“I already have a new life. Even if Ye moves with us, he’ll be uncomfortable, and so will we. It’s better to let him continue living with you.”
Hearing this, my tears had already fallen.
“This isn’t fair.”
It’s too unfair to Jiang Ye.
And to me… it’s also unfair.
