From Breakup to Vows, Marrying My Ex to Prove a Point - Chapter 12
In the end, Mu Shi came home with me to meet my mother.
The moment we presented our marriage certificates, my mom silently raised the broom in her hand.
Mu Shi eventually pulled her aside for a talk. It was a long talk. I wanted to follow, but they both turned around in perfect sync and said in unison, “Go sit on the sofa.”
I huddled on the sofa, playing on my phone for what felt like an eternity. I finished the entire plate of strawberries my mom had washed for me, and they were still talking.
So I tiptoed over and happened to hear my mom say, “Nanjia is my only daughter. I’ve never let her suffer any grievance her whole life.”
Mu Shi’s voice was soft but solemn. “And in my whole life, I will only have her as my wife. I won’t let her be wronged again.”
My eyes instantly turned red.
He loved me so much. I didn’t have it in me to be dramatic anymore.
When spring arrived, Mu Shi proposed to me.
He was leaning back on the single-seater sofa, completely exhausted, and had closed his eyes, as if he hadn’t seen me sitting right there.
That day, he had just come out of the operating room, still carrying the lingering scent of blood.
I was waiting in his office. I watched as he walked toward me, took a small box from his pocket, and pushed the ring in front of me.
My ears burned, but I forced myself to remain calm, saying nonchalantly, “We’re an old married couple already. Still doing this stuff?”
Mu Shi smiled, sat down next to me, and rested his head lightly on my shoulder. “I’m making it up to you with a proper wedding.”
I was suddenly excited. “Okay! I want a lawn wedding, a long white train on my dress, a rose crown, and a forest-themed cake and tableware…”
As I chattered on, I turned my head and realized Mu Shi had fallen asleep on my shoulder.
He must have been completely exhausted.
My heart melted into a puddle. I leaned over, kissed his cheek, and whispered, “Even with nothing else, just having you is enough.”
