Forgotten Love - Chapter 33
The day Gu Huaian woke up, Mom was already gone.
From the car accident to the earthquake.
From Young Master Gu to President Gu.
From looking at me with disdain during his amnesia, to now, falling in love with me all over again.
Gu Huaian couldn’t help but sigh.
It had only been three short months.
He had experienced a life more exciting than the previous eighteen years.
The day Gu Huaian was discharged from the hospital happened to be our wedding anniversary.
When he heard me say I had already prepared a gift for him,
He was delighted at first, then a little frustrated.
“I’m sorry, Ruanruan, I forgot our wedding anniversary…”
“Tomorrow, I’ll pick out a gift for you to make up for it, okay?”
I told him not to worry about it, just asked him to promise me one thing.
Gu Huaian agreed without hesitation.
After we got home, I took out the five file folders I had prepared for Gu Huaian and asked him to open them one by one.
“Wow, so many gifts? Are these some kind of couple’s vouchers or something?”
Gu Huaian’s eyes sparkled with anticipation as he opened the first folder.
Inside was the ultrasound report from when I was pregnant.
For a moment, Gu Huaian was stunned.
He stared at me, then at the ultrasound report in his hand.
A surge of immense joy burst from his eyes.
“Ruanruan, you’re pregnant?!”
“I-I’m going to be a dad??”
He was incoherent, grinning foolishly.
I took a step back,
avoiding his cautious hand reaching toward my belly.
“Keep opening your gifts.”
I didn’t answer, just reminded him.
Gu Huaian was immersed in joy and didn’t notice my odd behavior.
“What, is there an even bigger surprise waiting for me?”
He smiled and asked, opening the second folder.
The next second, his smile froze at the corners of his mouth.
Inside the folder was the medical record from my post-miscarriage surgery.
It was as if he had fallen from heaven into hell.
Endless sorrow instantly enveloped Gu Huaian.
“Ruanruan, was it… during the earthquake, the child…”
Gu Huaian’s face lost all color.
He closed his eyes in pain.
When he opened them again, his eyes were red and full of regret.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry… It’s all my fault, for choosing that place…”
“No, it was me who decided to terminate the pregnancy.”
I calmly interrupted him.
Gu Huaian’s dark pupils seemed to lose focus in an instant.
He stared at me in disbelief, as if he couldn’t trust his own ears.
“Gu Huaian, keep opening them, okay?”
I urged him.
Gu Huaian opened his mouth, wanting to say something.
In the end, he listened to me and silently opened the third folder.
Inside was the contract for the transfer of shares.
The shares I held in Gu Corporation would be unconditionally gifted to Gu Huaian.
Gu Huaian gripped the contract tightly,
his fingers turning pale from the force.
“Why, Ruanruan…”
I avoided his confused and uneasy gaze,
raised my chin, signaling him to keep going.
“You’ll know why soon.”
When he opened the fourth folder, Gu Huaian’s hands were visibly trembling.
He saw a diary.
Inside were entries in his handwriting.
Gu Huaian had lost his memory.
He didn’t remember ever writing a diary.
So, he wouldn’t know
that this diary was actually written by me, stroke by stroke.
Gu Huaian flipped through it expressionlessly.
The confusion in his eyes gradually turned to shock.
He looked up, his face even paler.
His trembling voice was anxious and aggrieved:
“No, Ruanruan, let me explain.”
“This isn’t me, I didn’t…”
“What, Gu Huaian, you lost your memory, so you don’t have to admit to what you did?”
I sneered coldly:
“Honestly, I really didn’t expect that all your affection was just an act.”
“You said you didn’t love me, that you only stayed with me out of gratitude.”
“Originally, I wanted to cut ties with you and then throw this diary in your face.”
“But then, you suddenly lost your memory. I immediately felt it was heaven giving me the perfect chance for revenge.”
“I wanted you to fall in love with me, then ruthlessly abandon you! Let you taste this pain too.”
I bent over, the sharp pain in my chest forcing me to gasp for breath.
It looked as if I had been deeply hurt by that diary.
“Ruanruan, are you okay!”
I brushed away Gu Huaian’s hand as he tried to support me.
I looked up and gazed at him seriously:
“But after experiencing life and death, I realized that love and hate are just trivial things.”
“Gu Huaian, you saved me. So, I don’t want to take revenge on you anymore.”
“No, Ruanruan, I wasn’t the one who hurt you!”
Hearing the meaning in my words, Gu Huaian’s face was full of despair, shaking his head desperately.
“Have you ever thought that maybe I didn’t lose my memory, but… but traveled through time?”
“I’m just the eighteen-year-old Gu Huaian, I don’t know anything, I…”
“So what? That makes it even less possible for me to be with you.”
I interrupted him with a smile,
my face indifferent as I spoke the most hurtful words:
“After all, the one I loved and hated was the thirty-year-old Gu Huaian.”
“And when you were eighteen, even if you stood right in front of me, I couldn’t be bothered to spare you a glance.”
