Forgotten Love - Chapter 32
I fainted again.
But perhaps it wasn’t yet my time to go.
When I opened my eyes again, I was already lying in a hospital bed.
Aside from a small cut on my head from being hit,
I was basically unharmed.
Instead, it was Gu Huaian who suffered.
When the earthquake struck, he shielded me immediately.
Not only did the collapsing ceiling break two of his ribs,
but seeing that I remained unconscious,
he somehow remembered a touching method from a novel,
and used a shard of tile to cut his wrist,
feeding his blood to me, drop by drop, into my mouth.
According to the rescue team,
Gu Huaian held on, clutching me tightly in his arms.
He only fainted when they arrived.
And before he lost consciousness, the last thing he said was,
“Save my wife first…”
I looked at Gu Huaian, still unconscious from blood loss,
and my nose stung as tears blurred my vision.
In my mind, his excited phone call before the car accident,
and the words he said to me under the rubble,
kept intertwining, echoing in my ears again and again.
Gu Huaian said, if I died, he would never live alone.
If a healthy person heard such devoted words from their lover,
they would surely feel joy and be deeply moved.
But what about someone who is dying…
The idea of dying for love sounds supremely romantic at first.
But for the loved ones left behind, isn’t it also a kind of cruel torment?
I love Gu Huaian, so I can’t bear it, nor am I willing
to watch him, after my death, truly follow me into the grave…
So, after making up my mind,
I went to find Lin Chen immediately.
When I first woke up, Lin Chen told me I was pregnant.
After a brief moment of joy, endless sorrow surged in.
Gu Huaian and I had always planned to have a child at thirty.
But now, this child was in my belly,
and because of my health, I had no choice but to abort her.
I heard that during my abortion surgery,
Gu Huaian woke up briefly.
And after learning I was safe,
he relaxed and fell into a deep sleep again…
When Gu Mother arrived,
I was keeping watch by Gu Huaian’s side.
Seeing her haggard figure and swollen red eyes,
my heart clenched painfully for a moment.
I hadn’t wanted Gu Mother to know about this accident.
But now, I had something important to ask her.
I could only call her over before Gu Huaian woke up.
“Ruanruan, are you alright?”
Gu Mother held my hand, looking me over from head to toe.
Seeing me shake my head, she finally turned her gaze to Gu Huaian lying on the bed.
“As long as you’re alright, that’s all that matters…”
“That boy finally knows how to protect his wife!”
“Last time, I don’t know what got into him, saying all sorts of nonsense.”
“I know you heard everything that day…”
Hearing Gu Mother’s words, my heart ached again.
Before she arrived, I thought she might feel sad seeing me,
since her son was seriously injured protecting me.
But I hadn’t expected that her first concern would be for me.
She had even noticed Gu Huaian’s odd behavior that day.
And to reassure me, she deliberately said those questioning words.
She wanted to tell me that Gu Huaian had once promised never to let me down…
“Mom, I don’t blame Huaian. He was… in an accident and lost his memory for a while.”
I held back my tears, trying to calm the sorrow surging inside me.
“Ah? Lost his memory? So, has he remembered now?”
Gu Mother was shocked and hurriedly asked me.
I shook my head.
“No, his memory is stuck at eighteen, when he was still chasing Lin Jiao.”
“Speaking of Lin Jiao, she came back a few days ago…”
“Ruanruan, don’t worry, Huaian’s memory will definitely come back!”
Gu Mother interrupted me anxiously,
as if afraid I’d misunderstand, she instinctively vouched for Lin Jiao:
“Lin Jiao would never come between you two, trust me.”
“So, Mom… was there more to what happened back then?”
Hearing my question, Gu Mother suddenly fell silent.
Her gaze wandered, and she stammered:
“Oh, w-what hidden story, it’s all in the past, don’t worry about it…”
“Mom, I want to know the truth, not because I’m worried.”
I tried to smile, hoping to make the conversation lighter.
But before I could speak, my tears fell uncontrollably.
“Ruanruan, what’s wrong?”
Gu Mother was startled.
She frowned in concern, wiping my tears again and again.
“Did Huaian bully you? Tell me, when he wakes up, I’ll teach him a lesson!”
I stared blankly at Gu Mother’s worried eyes.
Someone who cared for me so much, who loved me so dearly-
how could I bear to make her cry in sorrow?
I held her hand, rubbing my cheek against her palm, reluctant to let go.
“Mom, it’s not Huaian’s fault.”
“It’s me… I have a terminal illness, and I don’t have much time left.”
“So, before I die… please tell me the truth about what happened back then, alright?”
