Forgotten Love - Chapter 27
Ever since that first indulgence, Gu Huaian became addicted to the pleasure.
He loved to pull me aside and discuss human kinetics.
But honestly, my heart was willing, yet my strength was lacking.
So, I set up a reward system.
I linked his performance at the company to the length of our nightly conversations.
It spurred Gu Huaian to take back control of the company as soon as possible.
Perhaps it was driven by lingering physical memory.
In less than two months, Gu Huaian had adapted to his role as “President Gu.”
He visibly grew more mature and steady.
During several meetings, I watched Gu Huaian sitting at the head of the table, his gaze sharp and commanding.
I kept feeling as if he had already regained his memories.
“Shen Qingruan, I’m so tired… What’s a general manager anyway? Just a fancier workhorse.”
Recently, Gu Huaian had been working nonstop and finally secured an important partnership.
As soon as he got home, he collapsed against me, boneless and lazy.
“How about we go on vacation? Will you approve my annual leave, please, wife?”
Gu Huaian hugged me, his hair affectionately brushing against my ear.
Whenever he wanted something, he’d call me “wife” over and over.
Especially in bed, he’d say it most enthusiastically…
Ahem.
I pulled myself out of those romantic thoughts.
Seeing the dark circles of exhaustion under Gu Huaian’s eyes,
I felt a sudden pang of sympathy and agreed without a second thought.
While packing, Gu Huaian squatted beside me to help.
“Huh? Are you sick? Why are you bringing so much medicine…”
Seeing Gu Huaian pick up a bottle in confusion, I quickly snatched it away.
I stuffed the medicine deep at the bottom of the suitcase.
“Better safe than sorry! If either of us gets a headache or fever, the place you picked is so remote, it’d be hard to buy medicine.”
This time, Gu Huaian chose a place so desolate it was barely developed.
He called it “getting close to nature and escaping the city’s noise.”
But the travel dates happened to clash with my regular hospital check-up.
So, I asked Lin Chen in advance for some strong medication.
Just to make sure I wouldn’t slip up in front of Gu Huaian.
Lately, my headaches had become more frequent.
It felt as if someone was stabbing a sharp object into my brain,
twisting it one way, then the other.
“Miss Shen, medication can only temporarily suppress your symptoms, but the tumor in your brain is still growing.”
“You’re already on the maximum dosage. You need to make a decision soon. The longer you wait, the lower the chances of a successful surgery.”
Lin Chen’s serious expression flashed through my mind again.
For some reason, a vague sense of unease crept over me.
And after we arrived at our destination, that unease didn’t fade-instead, it grew stronger and stronger…
