Forgotten Love - Chapter 21
Although Gu Huaian and Lin Jiao were sitting together, there was no communication between them.
The class monitor insisted on dragging Lin Jiao into playing games, perhaps hiding something in his heart.
Lin Jiao kept losing, drinking glass after glass of alcohol.
“Enough, stop drinking.”
After losing the game yet again and raising her glass,
Gu Huaian frowned and grabbed Lin Jiao’s wrist.
“Oh, Huaian, are you feeling sorry for the beauty? Why don’t you drink for Lin Jiao instead? How about that?”
The class monitor egged him on, and Yang Fan even shoved the glass into Gu Huaian’s hand.
Gu Huaian was stunned for a moment, instinctively looking at me.
I met his gaze in silence.
One second, two seconds, three seconds.
Amid the crowd’s urging, Gu Huaian opened his mouth, as if wanting to say something.
But he was interrupted by a cold, clear voice.
“No need, I lost the game, there’s no reason to have someone else drink for me…”
Lin Jiao turned to take back the glass.
But someone bumped into her.
She was about to fall into Gu Huaian’s arms.
“Careful!”
Gu Huaian’s eyes widened and he shot to his feet.
One hand holding the glass, the other grabbing Lin Jiao’s arm.
Even so, Lin Jiao still ended up awkwardly sprawled on the sofa.
For a moment, everyone looked at each other in confusion.
Even the class monitor, who never let things get awkward, was at a loss for words.
He leaned over to Yang Fan and whispered:
“Fan, didn’t you say Huaian can’t forget Lin Jiao? But the way he’s acting, it doesn’t seem like it…”
“All night, his eyes keep drifting toward Qingruan. I didn’t study much, so don’t get me to play matchmaker wrongly…”
Yang Fan tugged at the corner of his mouth awkwardly, but still refused to give up, pretending to be concerned:
“Brother Gu, Lin Jiao seems drunk. Why don’t you take her to the room downstairs first?”
“Didn’t you say you had something to ask Lin Jiao…”
Yang Fan’s words seemed to remind Gu Huaian.
Gu Huaian still looked hesitant,
but he helped the drunken Lin Jiao up anyway.
He pressed his lips together, looking rather unwilling.
As he passed by me, his steps paused.
“Um, I’ll be right back, don’t misunderstand…”
Gu Huaian’s voice was very soft and light,
with a hint of inexplicable nervousness.
I pretended not to hear, ignoring him.
But the stuffy feeling in my heart was suddenly gone.
Today’s gathering was at a resort, and the class monitor had already arranged rooms for everyone.
I calculated in my mind: Gu Huaian would go and come back, plus the time to talk with Lin Jiao.
Fifteen minutes should be more than enough.
But as the seconds ticked by,
I realized I might have overestimated my own rationality.
Everyone was still laughing and talking about Gu Huaian and Lin Jiao.
I stood up, just about to leave.
Yang Fan blocked my way.
“Shen Qingruan, where are you going?”
Seeing me look at him coldly, he swallowed nervously.
Then, as if making up his mind, he lowered his voice and gritted his teeth:
“Shen Qingruan, aren’t you the one who likes to drug people? Today, I tried your trick and helped Lin Jiao out.”
“I suggest you don’t go looking for Brother Gu right now, or you might faint from anger…”
I recalled Lin Jiao’s dazed eyes and flushed cheeks from earlier.
My heart sank sharply.
I shoved Yang Fan aside and shouted sternly:
“Get out of my way!”
“What’s wrong, Qingruan? Hey, where are you going?”
The class monitor looked over at the commotion.
“To find my husband.”
“Ah, who?”
Suppressing my anger, I glanced at the confused crowd.
I smiled and said, “Gu Huaian.”
