Forgotten Love - Chapter 12
In the afternoon, I took Gu Huaian to the hospital for a follow-up examination.
Because his memory still hadn’t returned.
The doctor arranged for another brain CT scan.
When the results came out, Gu Huaian happened to be on the phone.
So I went into the consulting room alone.
“Miss Shen, from the scan, all the congestion in Mr. Gu’s brain has been absorbed. As for why he still hasn’t regained his memory, I think it’s due to abnormal brain function caused by the sudden impact of the car accident…”
The doctor rattled off a string of medical terms, which I found truly hard to understand.
So I spoke up and asked the question I cared about most:
“Then when will he recover?”
“That’s a difficult question to answer. It could be tomorrow, or it could be that he’ll never remember.”
“He… is it really possible that he could lose more than ten years of memory forever?”
My heart skipped a beat.
Seeing the doctor nod helplessly.
For a moment, my feelings were mixed.
“I see…”
The tension in my heart slowly eased.
I actually let out a subconscious sigh of relief:
“Maybe it’s better if he doesn’t remember. Thank you, Doc-”
“Mr. Gu, are you coming in? Hey, Mr. Gu? Where are you going…”
The commotion at the door interrupted me.
I quickly turned around.
The nurse who had been in charge of Gu Huaian recently was standing at the door.
Seeing me look over, she asked in confusion:
“Miss Shen, didn’t Mr. Gu come with you?”
“He just ran off in a hurry. He didn’t look well. Is he alright?”
“…”
Well, now there’s a big misunderstanding.
Just thinking about Gu Huaian’s astonishing imagination gave me a headache.
I was truly troubled about how to explain things to him when I got home.
Gu Huaian wouldn’t answer my calls.
When I got home, he was sitting on the sofa with his eyes closed.
Hearing me come in, he lifted his eyelids and gave me a cold glance.
The guarded look in his eyes was just like the day he first lost his memory.
I walked toward him, but he immediately stood up from the sofa.
Expressionless, he went back to the bedroom.
Following the principle of “if the enemy doesn’t move, I don’t move.”
He didn’t ask, so I didn’t bring up what happened at the hospital.
Until that night, lying in bed.
Exhausted and sleepy, I was half-awake.
A not-too-light, not-too-heavy force patted me awake.
The moment I opened my eyes, I fell into a pair of familiar eyes.
No longer cold and resistant.
The lingering affection in those eyes seemed as if it would drown me.
“Ruanruan,” Gu Huaian gently caressed my face, his voice soft:
“Are you awake?”
“Huaian…?”
My mind was still a little foggy.
“I’m sorry. It’s been hard on you these days.”
A hint of apology appeared in Gu Huaian’s eyes.
Then he smiled with relief.
“But fortunately, now, I’ve finally recovered some memories…”
