“What did you say?!”
With a loud “boom,” it was as if thunder exploded right beside my ears.
My face changed drastically, and I didn’t have time to think.
I sat up and grabbed Gu Huaian’s arm.
“You’ve regained your memory?”
“Yeah…”
Gu Huaian tugged at the corner of his mouth, but the smile didn’t reach his eyes.
Something’s wrong!
My heart sank with a thud.
In an instant, I was fully awake.
After a few moments of silence, I smiled:
“That’s wonderful… Huaian, I’m glad you remember.”
“I was just so happy earlier, I got a little carried away…”
“Stop pretending, Shen Qingruan.”
The affection in Gu Huaian’s eyes vanished in a second.
He let out a cold snort, looked down at me, and said through gritted teeth:
“Do you think it’s fun to treat me like a fool?”
I stared at him without blinking.
After a while, I put away my smile.
“Right back at you, Gu Huaian.”
“Actually, you haven’t remembered anything, have you?”
“That’s right. Just like you hoped in the hospital today, I still know nothing and can only be at your mercy!”
Gu Huaian’s face grew even darker.
His voice was like ice, carrying a bone-chilling coldness:
“Whether it’s Lin Jiao’s betrayal or Yang Fan’s schemes.”
“Or even you and me, from marriage to so-called love.”
“No matter how you make things up or hide them, I can’t find out, can I?”
“Gu Huaian, then tell me, what have I made up? What have I hidden?”
I sighed, feeling twice as troubled.

Gu Huaian choked for a moment, instantly frustrated:

“If we really loved each other as you say, then why don’t you want me to regain my memory?”

I have to admit, as childhood friends who grew up together,
Gu Huaian hates me the most, but also knows me the best.
Knowing I couldn’t hide it anymore, I nodded helplessly and admitted:
“Yes, Huaian, actually, the feelings between us were all made up by me.”
“We didn’t fall in love over time. I forced you to marry me out of gratitude and repayment.”
For a moment, Gu Huaian was stunned.
He opened his mouth, wanting to speak but hesitated.
I turned my gaze away and continued:
“All these years, both of us have been suffering. That day, you finally couldn’t take it anymore and tried to escape my control.”
“When I found out, I immediately sent people after you. Who knew, in your panic, you drove too fast and got into a car accident.”
“The doctor said your brain was injured and you might lose your memory. His words woke me up, so I found someone to hypnotize you deeply, hoping to start over with you…”
I paused, sighing regretfully:
“But unfortunately, you still noticed…”

The expression on Gu Huaian’s face was indescribable.
Looking closely, in those incredulous eyes, there was even a hint of fear.
I pressed my lips together and coughed lightly.
With a serious face, I shook my head:
“Oh, it’s fake.”
“I made it all up.”
