Chapter 6
Ying Chen wore an expression of triumph.
He patted my shoulder and leaned in close to my ear, speaking in a rather suggestive tone:
“If you can’t handle the one at home, you can call me. I know you remember my number.”
With that, he winked at Jiang Mo and mouthed something.
He quickly left the scene of the incident.
“Jiang Mo…”
I didn’t dare to meet his eyes.
I walked over, took the lunchbox from his hand, and spoke with my head lowered like a child who had done something wrong: “Why did you come? You should have let me know so I could come down to meet you. It’s dangerous for you to be alone.”
Jiang Mo is very tall.
At least when I’m beside him, I have to look up to see his face clearly.
Since losing his sight, he often wears a calm expression.
His dark pupils only show a hint of gentle smile when I appear.
After a second or two.
I heard him chuckle and say, “Were you chatting with a friend? Which friend? I don’t think I’ve ever heard his voice before.”
I was taken aback.
A faint smile was already on Jiang Mo’s face.
Two voices were battling in my mind.
One was to tell the truth about Ying Chen.
The other was to play along, hide Ying Chen’s existence, and handle it myself.
I pressed my lips together.
When I spoke again, my mouth made the choice faster than my brain:
“Uh… a new friend I met at a dinner yesterday. I left something behind, and he just brought it over.”
I looked up at Jiang Mo.
But my heart was uneasy.
Fortunately, Jiang Mo “stared” at me for a moment, then pressed his lips together and said:
“Alright, I understand.”
“I’m sorry, dear, I didn’t listen to you and came over on my own. But Auntie said you didn’t have much appetite this morning, so I made something to bring to you.”
I held his hand with concern: “You’re being disobedient again. You can’t see, and even with Auntie’s help, the kitchen isn’t safe. Don’t do this again.”
He smiled again.
And I felt a sense of relief.
Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed the vibrant and eye-catching French roses on the desk.
I took Jiang Mo’s hand and led him out of the lounge.
But in a place I couldn’t see.
Jiang Mo’s face no longer held any trace of a smile, his lips pressed into a straight line, and his gaze fell on that bouquet of roses.
His eyes were filled with resentment and malice.
