Chapter 3
Almost in an instant, I remembered that last night I called Lu He more than ten times, and no one ever answered…
Even when I came over today, Lu He didn’t offer me a single word of explanation.
Everything was already clear.
Zhao Yue really didn’t contact me last night-the person she reached out to was Lu He.
I don’t know how I hung up the phone, or how I walked out of the bedroom.
The moment my eyes met Lu He’s, I froze for a second. Before I could ask the questions burning inside me, he had already issued his dismissal.
“I have something to do later, Zhang Jia. You should go home first.”
The unconscious coldness in his tone made my heart feel as if it was being gripped tightly, making it hard to breathe.
I lowered my head, my fingers digging hard into my palm.
Half a year ago, after my confession failed, I curled up under the covers, buried my head, and told myself over and over again that I should let go.
When I woke up, I went about my work and life as usual, but I never reached out to him again.
Until two months ago, when I almost got lost on the mountain.
The moment he found me, Lu He hugged me tightly for the first time.
His scorching breath fell on my neck as he called my name anxiously, “Zhang Jia, Jiajia…”
I could feel his worry, his body trembling slightly.
After that, our relationship progressed rapidly. He even gave me a spare key to his home.
I thought that this time, I could finally get what I wished for.
I never expected that Zhao Yue would break up with her boyfriend.
The one who got what he wished for was Lu He.
Now, Lu He has returned to his old self, keeping me at arm’s length.
As if the tenderness and ambiguity of the past two months were all just my own illusion.
