Chapter 30
During dinner, Liam Evans got up, looking pale. It was clear he was severely sleep-deprived.
At the table, my dad didn’t ask him much, probably thinking he was too tired. After the meal, he urged Liam to catch up on some sleep.
Because it was the Mid-Autumn Festival, my parents were going to my grandmother’s house. They felt it was impolite to leave Liam Evans alone, so they asked me to stay and wait for him to wake up.
I returned to my room, and since I was covered in oil from cooking, I decided to take a shower.
Halfway through, he started knocking on the door.
I had no choice but to call him and tell him I was in the shower, asking what he needed.
“Can I come in?”
“No.”
“Did you lock the door?” he asked, amused.
I froze. Why would I lock the door in my own home? I certainly didn’t have that habit.
“Can’t sleep. I’ll just sit at your desk and read some comics,” he said so earnestly that if I refused, it would seem like I was the one with impure thoughts.
“Don’t mess with my stuff.”
“Alright.”
So, I awkwardly continued showering, knowing he was outside, and hurried to finish.
When I was done, I was dumbfounded.
I had only brought some undergarments, completely forgetting to bring my pajamas.
I couldn’t just walk out like that, but I also couldn’t stay in the bathroom forever.
Standing in the bathroom, pondering for five minutes, I had to send him a message.
“Can you bring me my clothes? They’re on the bed. I forgot to take them in.”
He didn’t reply, and I was anxious, fearing he hadn’t seen it. Just as I was about to call him, there was a knock on the door.
“Just pass them through the gap,” I said, opening the door slightly.
He didn’t move for a while, so I reached out to feel around.
When I touched his hand, the door was pushed open and quickly closed again, and he appeared in front of me.
“Close your eyes!” I suddenly didn’t know what to cover.
He looked at me, amused. “You invite me in but don’t let me come in. What’s that about, honey?”
“I really didn’t bring my clothes,” I was frantic, unsure how to explain.
“Don’t bother covering up. It’s not like I haven’t seen it before.” He placed the clothes aside.
I felt my blood rush.
“Give me my clothes!” I reached out to grab them, but he held me down, cupping my face.
“Put them on later.” He smiled, kissing my forehead, nose, lips, and then continued downward.
When I came to my senses, I pushed him away, but before losing control, he handed me a small box. “Sis, I bought it.”
Looking at the box, I was frantic.
“When did you buy this?”
“A while ago. If I don’t use it soon, it’ll expire.”
Me: …
When I fully regained my senses, I was too exhausted to even move my fingers.
He held me, whispering sweet nothings.
My mind buzzed, catching only bits and pieces, not fully grasping what he said.
Finally, he asked me, “Will you be my girlfriend?”
I didn’t answer.
He asked again, “Then can I be honey’s boyfriend?”
I still didn’t answer.
At that moment, all I wanted was to sleep.
“Let me sleep for a bit,” I sighed.
He fell silent, not speaking for a long time, and eventually, the smile faded from his face.
When I sensed he was too quiet, I asked, “What’s wrong?”
He turned away, avoiding my gaze.
I forced him to look at me, and with reddened eyes, he muttered, “You don’t want to take responsibility. What do you take me for?”
As he finished, a tear fell.
I panicked.
“I’m not shirking responsibility.” I reached out to wipe his tears.
He grabbed my hand, “Then honey doesn’t plan to give me a title?”
“I’ll give you one, don’t cry.”
If he cried again, I would too.
Clearly, I was the one being bullied, but he always had a way of making me feel like I was the one bullying him.
After comforting him for a long time, he finally smiled when I called him “honey.”
Later, I urged him to go to the guest room, lying alone in my own room.
He chatted with me over the phone.
“The moon is so beautiful tonight,” I remarked.
“Honey, my heart can’t hold the moon anymore,” he said dramatically.
Alright, after soothing him with a few words, he finally fell asleep.
Lying in bed, I reflected on everything that had happened. It seemed impulsive, yet it was all driven by emotion. I’m lucky that in this lifetime, while I’m still young, I followed my heart.
If given another chance, I would still choose him without hesitation.
The rest is up to time.
