Chapter 27
“He’s really useless…” He paused, “I gave him half a year, and he still couldn’t become your boyfriend.”
I was stunned. What did he mean by giving him half a year?
“You really are quite drunk.” I didn’t know how to respond.
“Admit it.” He said again, in that same playful tone, “You like me too… just like I like you.”
Just like I like you…
My mind went blank, buzzing with silence.
My brain stopped working, not knowing how things had come to this, and my heart started beating wildly.
“Speak!” The voice from the phone pulled my thoughts back to reality.
I still didn’t speak. I didn’t know how to respond.
I think I do like him, but is he serious? And the real-life issues standing between us, can they be solved?
After a while, he sighed, his tone soft and coaxing, “Can you say something?”
It felt like an eternity had passed, my internal struggle futile, and only then did I realize how moved I was by his confession, how much I wanted to tell him I liked him.
“Liam Evans.” I called his name.
“Yeah.” He responded softly.
“Are you serious?” I sighed, still asking the question.
He didn’t answer immediately, “If I say I’m serious, want to date you, want you to be my girlfriend, want to marry you, would you be scared?”
I was dumbfounded and said one word with certainty: “Yes.”
I never thought I’d be so flustered by a younger guy.
“Why are you so timid?” He sighed helplessly. “Then I’ll come back and say it in person.”
Come back? I was stunned.
“You’re coming back?” I asked him softly.
“What else can I do…” He paused, “Some people clearly don’t contact me, yet they run into my dreams every day, making me…”
Me: … He’s starting to be unserious again.
“Stop messing around, I’m going to sleep.” My face was already burning.
“Can you turn on the video for a while?” He suddenly requested, “I’m going crazy.”
“You seem perfectly fine.” I retorted, annoyed.
“Then take a look… I’ll show you whatever you want, as long as you turn on the video.”
Me: …
He always has a way to make me blush and my heart race. I felt this conversation couldn’t continue.
“Hanging up.” I said, and then I really hung up the phone.
Not long after, a message flashed in on WeChat, “Heartless.”
