Chapter 28
Because I stayed up too late and had a day off, I slept until noon the next day.
As soon as I woke up, thinking about last night’s call, my heart couldn’t help but race.
But back to reality, he’s abroad now, still studying, and by the time he returns in a few years, I’ll be almost old. Thinking about this gives me a headache.
Before I could sort this out, my mom came knocking on my door.
“Ella Thompson, get up quickly. Mom’s going grocery shopping, and Li will be here soon. At least don’t just lie there, what kind of impression is that?”
“Mom, who did you say?” I was a bit confused.
“Li! He texted your dad last night, saying he’d be here at noon today, just to visit.”
I was even more confused. When did this happen?
I quickly got up and sent him a message on WeChat, but he didn’t reply, probably on the plane.
My mind was in a daze. I went to the bathroom to wash my face with cold water to wake up, and finally realized he was really coming.
While listening to my mom’s instructions and tidying up the house, I kept thinking about what he said yesterday.
He said he wanted to say it in person, could it be today?
My heart started racing.
What if my parents find out?
Just as I finished sweeping the last bit of the floor, I got a tap on my back–it was my dad.
I was startled, about to ask if my dad was a ghost, walking without a sound, when the next second, a face appeared from behind him.
I was done for.
Liam Evans!
The person I hadn’t seen in a long time suddenly appeared, and my mind couldn’t quite process it, with a bit of embarrassing shyness.
“Hello…” He was always well-behaved in front of my dad.
“Mm, you’re back.” My tone was rather cold, actually afraid he’d act recklessly. Coming back without notifying me in advance left me uneasy.
“Uncle, I’m a bit tired. Can I sleep for a while?” He shrugged helplessly.
“Of course, of course, you can. Uncle forgot you need to adjust to the time difference.” My dad was as enthusiastic as ever, “Ella Thompson, go tidy up the guest room and change the sheets.”
Me: …Alright.
I walked ahead, Liam Evans followed behind, and I felt uneasy.
Sure enough, as soon as we entered the guest room, he closed the door and pinned me against the wall.
I was so scared I didn’t dare breathe, whispering, “Liam Evans, my dad is…”
“Doesn’t matter.” As soon as he said that, he lowered his head and kissed me fiercely. It was chaotic, like a hungry wolf pouncing on its prey.
Worried my dad might barge in, I didn’t dare make a sound, letting him have his way.
When I was almost out of breath, he finally let go, gently brushing my lips with his fingers, smiling, “Sorry, your lipstick’s smudged.”
“Are you a dog?” I almost wanted to curse, my lips burning with pain.
“Sorry, I’ll be careful next time.” He laughed, gently caressing my lips, making me shyly turn away.
“Move aside, I need to change the sheets.”
This time, he didn’t hold me, letting me escape from his embrace, standing at the door grinning foolishly.
He’s going to be the death of me, still smiling. My face was almost red to my neck, so I buried myself in changing the sheets.
He stood for a while, then naturally lay down, pulling my hand.
“Let go.” I pried his hand away, watching the door nervously, afraid my dad would come in.
“Ella Thompson.” He called my name softly, looking at a certain spot, sighing, “Can’t sleep now.”
I followed his gaze and was blinded. Actually, when he held me earlier, I felt it, but he always shamelessly said it out loud, which was truly embarrassing.
“Can’t sleep, need me to knock you out?” I shook off his hand, really wanting to hit him.
He was still full of smiles, “I like you knocking me… out… want me to say it?”
“Shut up!” I quickly ran out.
