Falling for the Best Man, A Second Chance at Love - Chapter 6
After I resigned from the company.
I liquidated all the shares I held in the shortest possible time.
Moved out of the villa I had lived in for years and into another house.
That afternoon, I was walking on the street with a pile of documents in my arms.
My phone rang.
It was a call from the company where I had previously booked my wedding photos.
“Miss Shen, you have an appointment for a wedding photo shoot next month. I’m calling to confirm it with you again.”
I was stunned for a moment.
Only then did I recall it belatedly.
This wedding photo studio was notoriously hard to book.
I had set the date a year in advance.
After several changes, I finally fixed the shoot for next month.
“I’m sorry, but I won’t be taking the photos anymore.”
“All right, then I’ll cancel the shoot for you. I’m very sorry, but the deposit is non-refundable.”
“That’s fine, I understand.”
The other person hesitated, then said:
“Um… we just received a new order… The groom’s name and phone number are exactly the same as your husband’s, but the bride’s surname is Ye… They paid extra to book the earliest slot, which is at the end of this month.”
The staff member was a young woman.
I faintly understood that she was kindly trying to give me a hint.
“Thank you for telling me, but he is no longer my husband.”
The wedding photos I had been waiting for in vain.
He paid more to secure the earliest slot to take them with another woman.
So, the things he truly wanted to do were unstoppable, come rain or shine.
A stifling pain surged in my chest.
Just as the call ended, a torrential rain suddenly poured down from the sky.
The downpour came without warning.
I ran, trying to take shelter under an eave.
But a hurried passerby bumped into me hard, and the documents scattered all over the ground.
I bent down to pick them up, one by one, in the rain.
The tears I’d held back for so long finally streamed down uncontrollably.
Suddenly, an umbrella appeared above my head.
A man’s anxious and angry voice thundered in my ear:
“Shen Xian, what are you doing!”
