Chapter 42 - Eradicating Evil in Hong Kong (Part II)
Chen Shaoxian turned around to see a group of more than ten people, brandishing machetes and swinging sticks, charging towards him and Zheng Ruirui with fierce momentum.
Pedestrians on the street watched the gang in alarm and quickly moved aside.
Zheng Ruirui, clutching Chen Shaoxian’s hand nervously, felt no fear in her heart.
As the gang drew closer, Chen Shaoxian glanced down at Zheng Ruirui’s high heels and said, “Hold tight around my neck.”
Zheng Ruirui’s face flushed, but she obediently wrapped her arms tightly around Chen Shaoxian.
With a swift move, Chen Shaoxian lifted Zheng Ruirui into his arms and started running at high speed. Despite carrying someone, Chen Shaoxian was surprisingly fast, quickly putting distance between them and the pursuers.
Everyone was astonished by Chen Shaoxian’s speed, and the gang chasing him muttered in dismay, “Damn, is he as fast as Liu Xiang?”
Thus, a chase ensued.
Zheng Ruirui kept her eyes focused on Chen Shaoxian, feeling no fear but rather a sweet sensation.
Chen Shaoxian spotted four police officers not far from them and hurried over with Zheng Ruirui in his arms, shouting, “We’re calling the police.”
The police officers looked stunned by Chen Shaoxian’s approach, and he too recognized them but couldn’t recall where he had seen them before.
Meanwhile, the breathless pursuers caught up to Chen Shaoxian. Seeing the police, they were startled and quickly hid their weapons behind their backs, glaring fiercely at Chen Shaoxian before swiftly turning to leave.
Suddenly, one of the police officers shouted towards a direction, “Director, what’s going on here?”
This comment confused both parties, and Chen Shaoxian followed the officer’s gaze to see a group of people with cameras also looking towards him.
Hearing this, the gang chasing Chen Shaoxian turned and charged towards him again.
Chen Shaoxian gritted his teeth and quickly put down Zheng Ruirui, urging her to “Run to the police and report it.”
He then shielded Zheng Ruirui with his body, snatched a police baton from the waist of a fake police officer, weighed it in his hand, and thought, “Good thing this isn’t a cheap knockoff.” He then charged at the group. Seeing his aggressive approach, the fake officers quickly scattered.
Reaching one of them, Chen Shaoxian swung the police baton hard, smashing it into the man’s face before he could react. The sound of breaking bones was followed by the man collapsing to the ground.
Out of the corner of his eye, Chen Shaoxian noticed Zheng Ruirui was no longer where she had been, which eased his mind somewhat.
Suddenly, he spotted someone trying to chase after Zheng Ruirui. Chen Shaoxian quickly closed the distance and fiercely kicked the pursuer in the lower back. With a crack, the man flew forward like a kite with its string cut, sliding far along the ground, leaving a long trail of blood.
Feeling a cold breeze on his back, Chen Shaoxian didn’t turn around; instead, he sidestepped a knife aimed at him, then quickly spun around and hooked a punch under the jaw of a man with a crew cut. The man’s teeth flew out as he was propelled upwards and then fell heavily to the ground with a thud.
Chen Shaoxian then took a large step back and side-kicked another assailant who held a nunchaku in the stomach. The man flew horizontally, crashing into four of his accomplices. Unfortunately for them, they landed on a hot stew stall, overturning it. Boiling stew spilled over the five men, who dropped their weapons and rolled on the ground screaming in pain.
The remaining six men, seeing how fierce Chen Shaoxian was, hesitated for a moment. They exchanged glances and quickly spread out, attempting to surround him for a collective attack.
Chen Shaoxian wouldn’t let himself be surrounded. He swung his police baton at the closest man, who was quick to block with his knife. But Chen’s strength was immense; the force drove both the knife and baton into the man’s forehead, causing blood to spurt from his nose and mouth as he fell backward, rigid. At that moment, the police baton split into a nunchaku.
Chen Shaoxian quickly shifted his body to the left, dodging the knife aimed at him. Swiftly, he lifted his right leg and forcefully slammed it into the assailant’s knee, eliciting a sharp crack and a scream as the man’s body tilted forward. Seizing the opportunity, Chen grabbed the man’s arm with his right hand while bending his left arm to strike heavily at the man’s elbow with his own elbow joint. With a twist of his hand, he heard a crunch as the man’s arm bent inward, revealing the stark white of bone. After wresting the knife away, Chen threw the man aside, who then lay on the ground, crying out in agony. All this happened in the blink of an eye. Many people didn’t even understand what had happened before several had fallen.
The bystanders were stunned by the scene; many of their legs trembled, and a few of the faint-hearted even wet their pants.
The remaining four, their hands shaking with knives, looked at their fallen comrade, swallowed hard with a gulp, their throats made a gurgling sound, sweat appeared on their foreheads, and they looked palely at Chen Shaoxian.
One of them, a bald man, his voice trembling, said, “Do you know who we work for?”
Chen Shaoxian thought to himself, “Great, they’re about to spill their guts.” He didn’t give the man a chance to respond and charged forward.
Seeing Chen charge at them, the man steeled himself, called to his accomplices, and they swung their knives at Chen.
Chen dodged the knives of two men, parried another’s club with his own knife, and delivered a low blow to the bald man’s groin. The bald man squealed and was sent flying. Chen then knocked down another man, stepping on his stomach, which caused the man to fart loudly followed by his eyes rolling back as he began foaming at the mouth and convulsing.
Looking at the bald man on the ground, Chen Shaoxian said, “I don’t know who you guys work for, but I know who you were looking to meet.”
Turning his head to the last two standing, he realized they were the ones he had let go in the restaurant.
Seeing the beast before them, they regretted their decision to invoke help for a showdown, realizing not only had they failed to regain their dignity, they had likely gambled with their lives as well.
Trembling and holding their knives, they didn’t dare speak or approach, just watched Chen Shaoxian in terror.
At that moment, the sound of a police siren echoed from afar. Upon hearing it, the two individuals burst into tears and then, upon seeing Chen Shaoxian approaching, they cried out in unison, “The police are coming!”
Chen Shaoxian, upon hearing their shouts, nearly passed out. He simply lit a cigarette and watched the two of them.
The police car quickly arrived at the scene, and to everyone’s surprise, it was riot police who disembarked.
The officers, after getting out of the car, were also stunned by the scene before them.
Seeing the police, the two individuals threw away their knives and rushed to the feet of the officers, weeping bitterly.
Hearing their crying, the police snapped back to reality and quickly raised their guns, commanding Chen Shaoxian, “Drop your weapon.”
Feeling like he was about to explode with anger, Chen Shaoxian furiously threw away his knife.
Several cautious officers approached, and one of them attempted to handcuff Chen Shaoxian.
Zheng Ruirui, who had just gotten out of the police car, ignored the officers’ attempts to restrain her and ran to Chen Shaoxian’s side, shouting at the police, “We are the victims!”
The officers on the scene looked at Chen Shaoxian and then at the two people clinging to their colleague’s legs and crying. They were momentarily confused about the situation.
