Chapter 41 - Eradicating Evil in Hong Kong (Part I)
Chen Shaoxian and Zheng Ruirui were left alone. Chen Shaoxian glanced at the snacks on both sides and asked, “Want something to eat?”
Zheng Ruirui chuckled and responded with a bit of annoyance, “We just had dinner.”
Chen Shaoxian scratched his head and said nothing, and the two aimlessly started strolling down the street. Suddenly, Chen Shaoxian suggested, “Let’s find a place to sit.”
Zheng Ruirui nodded silently.
The pair casually entered a Cha chaan teng on the street. Although the tea restaurant was not large, it was bustling with patrons, clearly doing good business.
Upon entering, the beautiful Zheng Ruirui attracted many glances, causing a ripple effect that made everyone in the restaurant look at them, with most eyes, of course, on Zheng Ruirui.
Accustomed to the attention, Zheng Ruirui appeared very gracious, while Chen Shaoxian looked around for a free table, paying no mind to the stares.
After finally finding an empty table, they sat down and a waiter came over with the menu to ask what they would like to order.
Chen Shaoxian asked Zheng Ruirui for her preference. She just ordered a juice and left the rest up to Chen Shaoxian.
Chen Shaoxian, looking puzzled at the menu filled with a variety of unfamiliar items, regretted having just eaten.
After pondering for a while, he ordered Banana Cake, Spicy Fish Balls, Fish Meat Siu Mai King, Bowl Congee Shark Fin, Tofu Pudding, and Scattered Eggs.
Seeing Chen Shaoxian still browsing the menu, a considerate waiter advised, “Sir, I’m afraid that’s too much food for two.”
Chen Shaoxian thanked the waiter for his kindness and handed back the menu.
Soon all the dishes Chen Shaoxian ordered were served. Before leaving, the waiter commented to Chen Shaoxian, “Your girlfriend is really beautiful.” Chen Shaoxian just scratched his head without a word, while Zheng Ruirui blushed and looked at Chen Shaoxian.
Feeling slightly awkward under Zheng Ruirui’s gaze, Chen Shaoxian lowered his head and quietly ate the food on the table.
Zheng Ruirui looked at Chen Shaoxian and felt a mix of amusement and irritation, thinking to herself, “You are such a pig, huh.” Although Zheng Ruirui was already full, she couldn’t help but pout and start nibbling on the food on the table as she watched Chen Shaoxian.
The two of them were soon eagerly eating from the array of dishes on the table.
Suddenly, Chen Shaoxian remembered something and said to Zheng Ruirui, “By the way, do they accept RMB here? I don’t have any Hong Kong dollars on me.”
Zheng Ruirui was taken aback for a moment, then patted her pockets and said, “Oh, I didn’t bring any either. All my money is with Zheng Lei.”
Chen Shaoxian called over a waiter and asked briefly. The waiter informed them that the restaurant only accepted Hong Kong dollars, but mentioned that there was a currency exchange shop not far to the right outside.
After thanking the waiter, Chen Shaoxian told Zheng Ruirui to wait for a moment and left the Cha chaan teng.
Just as Chen Shaoxian stepped out, seven oddly dressed young individuals entered.
The boss of the Cha chaan teng saw the group approaching and hurried over, bowing and handing them a stack of money. Just as the group was about to leave, one of them noticed Zheng Ruirui and pointed her out to the others.
Their eyes lit up as they approached Zheng Ruirui, ignoring whatever the boss was saying.
One of the individuals, with blond hair, asked in a flirtatious tone, “Hey, beauty, is this seat taken?” Without waiting for Zheng Ruirui’s response, they sat down, ogling her.
Zheng Ruirui frowned and said, “Sorry, but this seat is taken.”
Hearing Zheng Ruirui’s accent, the group was momentarily stunned, then smiled broadly. The blond man, speaking in broken Mandarin, said, “I’m a movie scriptwriter. Interested in exploring a career in films?” He reached out to grab Zheng Ruirui’s hand.
Zheng Ruirui quickly stepped back, avoiding his hand.
The blond man chuckled nonchalantly and scooted closer, continuing, “Don’t be shy. Don’t you want to be in a movie?” He tried to put his arm around her shoulders while the others looked on, snickering.
Zheng Ruirui’s expression darkened and she stood up to leave.
The group quickly stood to block her way, with the blond man saying, “Don’t be like that,” as he reached out to grab her.
Zheng Ruirui grabbed the blond man’s arm, pulled it forward, and then lifted upward. With a crack, she let go of her grip.
As Zheng Ruirui released her hold, the blond man’s arm swung loosely before hanging awkwardly at his shoulder, clearly dislocated.
Sweat immediately beaded on the blond man’s forehead, yet he made no sound, merely gritting his teeth and glaring at Zheng Ruirui, evidently in severe pain.
The others couldn’t stand by any longer and started shouting, rushing towards Zheng Ruirui.
At that moment, Zheng Ruirui suddenly called out “Shaoxian,” her eyes misting over.
The group paid no heed to what Zheng Ruirui had shouted and continued their charge. Suddenly, one of them was sent flying and slammed against the restaurant’s wall, sticking there for a full two seconds before sliding down. Then the blond man too was hurled against the wall in similar fashion.
The remaining men quickly turned around to find a young man standing there, his expression dark and his gaze fixed intensely on them. They felt as if a wild beast had them in its sights and froze in place.
While they were frozen, Chen Shaoxian was not.
Chen Shaoxian quickly pulled Zheng Ruirui behind him and then swung his fists at the remaining attackers, flattening two of them.
Seeing the situation turn dire, the last three men pulled out daggers and charged at him.
With Zheng Ruirui behind him, Chen Shaoxian didn’t dodge; he saw the three men coming and delivered a sweeping kick that sent the front-runner flying back into the others, knocking them askew. One of their daggers ended up impaled in the rear man’s buttocks.
The man with the dagger in his buttocks fell to the ground, hands clutching at his groin, curled up and motionless, his pants soaked through.
The sight terrified the remaining two, who clenched their legs together, trembling as they looked at Chen Shaoxian and then knelt down with a thump, too frightened to speak, only able to nod their heads in fearful respect.
Chen Shaoxian, his face still stern, surveyed the other diners. Any man his gaze met quickly clamped his legs and bowed his head. However, many women watched him with admiring eyes.
With a snort, Chen Shaoxian took Zheng Ruirui’s hand and walked out of the restaurant.
Outside, Chen Shaoxian turned to Zheng Ruirui with a heavy voice, “I’m sorry.”
Tears on her face, Zheng Ruirui tightly held Chen Shaoxian’s hand, smiling slightly as she shook her head. She leaned on his shoulder, and together, they walked down the street, not bothering to look around.
Meanwhile, they could hear the bustling noise of the crowd behind them.
