Ex-Kneeling to Call Sister-in-Law - Chapter 11
Chapter 11
I stood by the hospital bed, my heart feeling as if it were being squeezed tightly by his words.
Gu Yanzhou was never one for sweet talk.
So when he did speak, every word carried immense weight.
I looked down at him, my tears only flowing faster the more I tried to wipe them away.
“Are you saying these things now because you’re injured and know I can’t snap back at you?”
Gu Yanzhou looked at me, a hint of a smile actually appearing in his eyes.
“You can snap back.”
“I don’t want to.”
“Then what do you want to do?”
I pursed my lips, eventually reaching out to touch the bandage on his shoulder. My voice dropped to a whisper.
“Does it hurt?”
“If you give me a kiss, it might feel better.”
I was going to glare at him, but when I looked up, I met his gaze-he was staring straight at me.
That look didn’t belong to a patient.
He looked like a wounded but still dangerous wolf, lying down yet still fixated on his prey.
My ears burned, but I still leaned down and pressed a light kiss to the corner of his mouth.
Just as I was about to pull away, Gu Yanzhou’s hand clamped onto the back of my neck.
Despite his injuries, his strength was still startling.
In one motion, he pulled me back down toward him.
This kiss was different from the one at the gala.
It was deeper, slower, and more agonizingly lingering.
It was as if long-suppressed emotions had finally found an outlet. He was clearly trying to restrain himself from being too forward, yet he couldn’t help but claim every inch of me.
My knees went weak under his kiss, and my fingers could only clutch the front of his hospital gown to keep myself steady.
When Gu Yanzhou finally let go, his breathing was ragged.
He rested his forehead against mine, his voice incredibly raspy.
“Are you still going to say I’m just acting this time?”
My entire face was burning, but I still refused to back down.
“Patients aren’t allowed to misbehave.”
“Then I’ll misbehave once I’m better.”
He stared at me, his dark eyes burning with intensity.
“Don’t you dare go back on your word.”
I finally let out a laugh through my tears, which continued to fall.
Gu Yanzhou reached out to wipe them away with a gentle touch.
“Stop crying.”
“You’re not the boss of me.”
“Mm, I am now.”
He said it so naturally, as if it were simply the way things were meant to be.
Looking at him, I suddenly didn’t want to fight with myself anymore.
“Those divorce papers,” I said. “Let’s void them.”
Gu Yanzhou’s gaze darkened instantly, and his fingers tightened around mine.
“What did you say?”
“I said, void them.”
I sniffled and deliberately put on a stern face. “But I have conditions.”
“Name them.”
“The first time we got our marriage certificate, you took advantage of me being drunk and practically tricked me into it.”
Surprisingly, Gu Yanzhou didn’t argue; he just watched me.
My heart felt warm as I continued.
“The second time, you have to court me, ask me, and coax me properly. I want you to tell everyone, right to their faces, that I’m not some leftover Gu Zeqian didn’t want who just happened to fall to you.”
Gu Yanzhou stared at me. The long-suppressed darkness in his eyes suddenly began to brighten, bit by bit.
“Fine.”
He squeezed my hand, his voice deep and solemn. “I will ask you again, properly.”
“And one more thing.”
“What else?”
I pursed my lips and looked at him.
“From now on, you’re not allowed to shoulder everything alone. If you ever dare to make a decision for me without saying a word again, I really will leave you.”
Gu Yanzhou fell silent for a moment. He reached out and pulled me closer, resting his forehead gently against my stomach, like a beast finally willing to bow its head.
“I understand,”
he said softly.
“I won’t deceive you again.”
