Dreamscape - Chapter 20
Ethan and I became the most synchronized comrades, working seamlessly together.
Eventually, we successfully gathered irrefutable evidence of Yu Minghui, Lucas, and others embezzling charitable funds and falsifying accounts.
The matter caused a sensation in the media.
As a result, I received attention.
Ethan, however, remained hidden behind the scenes, not mentioned in the reports.
The public only knew that a young employee, who had graduated just a year ago, bravely exposed the ugly truth behind the charity project.
Of course, there were also cynical remarks:
“Being a troublemaker, no company will dare to hire you in the future.”
Yet, before the words even settled, my inbox was filled with a row of new high-paying offers.
Companies with guilty consciences naturally wouldn’t dare to hire me.
So, I would go to those enterprises that truly valued ability and principles.
By the way, the female colleague who stood up for me in the office also smoothly transitioned to a top company in the industry after our previous company closed due to the scandal, with bright prospects ahead.
Later, Ethan and I accomplished many things together.
We built schools, hired excellent teachers, and dedicated ourselves to providing education for impoverished girls who were in dire situations and lacked educational resources.
He funded, I executed; we shared the same ideals and worked together flawlessly.
Over time, I let go of my initial wariness and prejudice, and we grew closer.
I even met Allison once.
She awkwardly approached me, reluctantly calling out, “Aunt Aveline.”
With parents who indulged her without limits, she enjoyed a carefree period after being expelled.
But soon, those so-called “friends” around her began to distance themselves.
This was naturally Ethan’s doing-he made it clear that he would no longer endorse any of Allison’s actions.
Allison painfully realized that her followers were only around her because of Ethan Sterling’s influence. Without her uncle’s halo, she was nothing.
As for her future path, it was entirely up to her own fate.
I had no intention of seeking revenge on her.
Because there was a more important group of people worth my attention and protection.
A year later.
I returned home after a month-long business trip.
As soon as I stepped into the foyer, Ethan eagerly pulled me into his arms.
I laughed, wrapping my arms around his waist, “Missed me?”
“Yes, very much.” His arms tightened around me, “And you?”
“Not bad, Goldie.” I teased him deliberately.
“…” Ethan sighed helplessly, gently pinching my cheek, “Can you not call me that? It ruins the mood.”
I couldn’t stop laughing.
Finally, I planted a light kiss on his cheek, “Just kidding. Actually… I missed you too, darling.”
Ethan paused for a moment, his deep eyes instantly lighting up, “What did you call me?”
“Darling.”
That night, moonlight streamed through the window.
Illuminating us as we held each other tightly.
As if returning to those enchanting and real dreams.
