Chapter 2
I quietly picked up his phone.
The screen lit up. The lock screen was still our wedding photo from the Maldives three years ago.
Under the sun, Chen Chengjun had his arm around my waist, and I was smiling so wide my eyes curved into crescents.
My fingerprint still unlocked it.
He hadn’t started guarding against me yet.
I was pinned to the top of his WeChat, and our last chat was from this morning: “Remember to buy milk.”
His text messages were all delivery notifications.
His call log for the past week only showed me, his mother, and delivery drivers.
I opened his food delivery app. The order addresses were all either Building A of Jiangcheng Technology Park or Apartment 902, Building 3, Jinxiu Gardens.
His ride-hailing history only showed trips between the office and home.
It was too clean.
As clean as a meticulously scrubbed crime scene.
I was just about to lock the screen.
Ding.
A notification from Honor of Kings popped up: Your friend “Sweetie Strawberry” has invited you to a ranked match.
My finger tapped on the game, beyond my control.
I entered a private chat room.
There were only two people: my husband and Sweetie Strawberry.
I scrolled through the contents of the private chat.
The world started to spin.
