- Disguised as a Man, She Has Eight Men Fighting Over Her
- Chapter 66 - Protecting His Own
The car door stood open. Jiang Si had already forced his way inside.
Lin Cheng hastily landed a few more blows, then ran over.
She didn’t recognize KA. The young man sprawled across the seat, his face a horrifying mass of bruises. A patch had spread across his dark clothes that looked like blood.
Jiang Si was bent over him, his blows cutting through the air. His knuckles were scraped raw and bleeding, yet his movements remained swift and efficient. His expression was savage, violence radiating from him.
“Jiang… Jiang Si, do you know who… who my father is?”
KA kept grunting, shielding his body with his hands. His voice was weak and unsteady.
Jiang Si’s fist paused. His eyes narrowed slightly.
“Who?”
Thinking he was frightened, KA gleamed with triumph through his swollen eyes.
“Qin… Qin Shan… How’s that… Scared now?”
Jiang Si barely raised an eyebrow. He lifted his lids, revealing the sharp edges of his gaze.
The next punch landed even harder.
Then he leaned down and reached into KA’s pocket with bloody fingers, drawing out a short knife.
The cold blade touched KA’s wrist. A low voice sounded beside his ear.
“Go home and ask Qin Shan whether the mayor of City S ought to be on his knees when he speaks to the Jiang family.”
KA’s pupils contracted sharply.
“Jiang Si!”
Outside the car, Lin Cheng saw the flash of the blade. Her heart clenched, and she called to him with a frown.
He stopped for a moment, his eyes dark, as though reaching a decision.
Then the knife plunged down and flicked upward with force.
“AAAAH!” KA screamed, pain tearing through his wrist.
“My hand! My tendons! It fucking hurts!”
“Jiang Si, you fucking lunatic! Aaargh!”
Expressionless, Jiang Si tossed the knife aside.
“Jiang Si!”
Stunned for a moment, Lin Cheng grabbed his arm and hauled him out of the car.
He let her pull him out and stood without moving. The lower half of his face was cold and sharply set. His black eyes fixed on her as he asked softly, without preamble, “Scared?”
Lin Cheng paused, then raised her eyes to meet his.
“Yes.”
He hadn’t felt it while hitting the man. He hadn’t felt it while being threatened. Only now did he suddenly notice a little pain in his hand, tugging at his heart until it tightened in pulses.
But Lin Cheng was thinking something else entirely.
Oh no. Now she had caused huge trouble for Jiang Si. That man was clearly not someone to cross.
“Tsk.” Her brows drew together, her tone worried. “I’m scared he’ll come after you later.”
Jiang Si paused, then slowly answered, “Oh.”
“What do you mean, ‘oh’?”
Flustered enough to forget her manners, Lin Cheng took out her phone to call an ambulance.
Jiang Si lightly caught the wrist of her dialing hand. His palm was hot.
“I’ll do it.”
He stepped aside and made a call, keeping his voice very low.
Lin Cheng watched his straight back, pressed her lips together, and opened the car door.
KA was still groaning and cursing in agony.
She took off her light jacket and tied it tightly around his bleeding wrist. First, stop the bleeding.
He howled with pain and cursed even harder.
Satisfied that he wasn’t about to die—and had plenty of energy, apparently—Lin Cheng felt her remaining concern turn to irritation.
She raised a hand and delivered one crisp, resounding slap.
“Shut up!”
She quickly got out.
A police siren sounded faintly in the distance. Some kind passerby must have called them.
Jiang Si had finished his call and was looking at her.
“Come on!”
Lin Cheng snatched the bag from the tree branch, caught his wrist with her other hand, and dragged him into a run.
Following her lead, Jiang Si lowered his head and smiled.
Only after they had gone some distance and seemed safe for the moment did she stop, panting, and let go.
She looked up at him. Flecks of blood still marked his face, but his eyes were no longer as frightening. He simply watched her with a deep, intent gaze.
“One more question,” he said slowly.
Lin Cheng looked at him in confusion.
After a long pause, he asked softly, “Are we still eating noodles together?”
“…”
Looking at his calm, blood-spattered face, she suddenly felt that he really was a wolf in his bones.
Her mind returned to what she had just witnessed: the clean, efficient movement as he severed the man’s wrist tendons.
Was it because the man had threatened to destroy her hands?
Was that why he had paid him back in kind…?
How was she supposed to repay a debt like this?
“You don’t want any now?” Jiang Si’s cool voice broke in.
She returned from her thoughts and took two seconds to collect herself.
“I do.”
They walked side by side. Lin Cheng couldn’t help asking, “Captain.”
“Do you think some nice police officers might show up in a minute and take us away?”
“No.” He didn’t break stride. His voice was certain.
“Will what we did tonight end up trending?”
“No.”
“Captain, what if his dad really comes after us?”
“He won’t.”
“Captain… Thank you.”
“You’re welcome.”
With Lin Cheng firing off ten questions a second, they finally made it back to the villa.
She turned on the light, saw the dried blood on Jiang Si’s hands, and frowned deeply.
“Captain.” She tugged at his shirt. “Come to my room and let me treat those wounds first. I have a first-aid kit.”
He glanced at her worried face, then at his battered hands. After two seconds of silence, he still shook his head.
“Noodles first.”
“Two eggs today.”
Lin Cheng had nothing to say.
Honestly, my lord. At this point, even if you wanted dinosaur eggs, I’d find them for you.
After bustling about for a while, she brought over two bowls.
“Here. Eat up!”
They practically inhaled the noodles.
The moment they finished, Lin Cheng put down her chopsticks and grabbed Jiang Si.
“Hurry!”
Like a thief, she whisked him upstairs, slipped into her room, then softly closed and locked the door.
Jiang Si stood in the middle of the room, faintly uncomfortable. Its pleasant, sweet fragrance surrounded him.
Lin Cheng cleared her throat.
“Um… Sit down.” She pointed at the bed, then turned to search the cabinet.
He didn’t move. He watched her crouch in front of it, a small stretch of arm showing as she reached inside.
Very pale.
Probably very soft, too.
After a while, he looked away.
Lin Cheng stood with a small box in her hand.
“Found it!”
Jiang Si took it, lifted out a bottle of rubbing alcohol, and casually raised the hem of his T-shirt, exposing a section of lean waist.
“Huh? Captain, you’re hurt there too?” Lin Cheng asked anxiously.
“Mm.”
He had done it on purpose.
One of the cuts was even self-inflicted.
Holding his shirt loosely between his teeth, Jiang Si unscrewed the iodine bottle and started to pour it on.
Bruises crossed his defined abdomen, along with what looked like a cut.
Lin Cheng stared for two seconds, then pulled him down onto her bed.
“Let me.”
