- Chapter 63 - Time to Show Off
Jiang Si had been about to make his next move. At those words, his mouse hand twitched.
Put him to sleep, she meant.
Lin Cheng seized the opening, sent her Q back in, and followed with Ignite and an auto attack.
“First Blood!”
Jiang Si’s screen went dark too.
For one second, the gaming room fell silent.
Then Pei Jinye burst out laughing. “Hahahaha! Never thought I’d see the day, Si. What a noob!”
Shi Yu leaned over, smiling as he twisted the knife. “Jinye, didn’t Little Chen just solo-kill you too?”
Pei Jinye scoffed and crossed his legs, utterly unbothered. “I’ve got skins.”
Shi Yu turned to Lin Cheng with sincere admiration. “You’re really good, Little Chen!”
“I’ve got skins,” Pei Jinye said at once.
Jiang Si studied his gray screen, cast an unobtrusive glance at Lin Cheng, then spoke.
“That’s enough solos. Get ready to stream. We’ll queue as five and scrim Blaze. Call your roles.”
“Jungle!” Pei Jinye raised his hand first.
“Support for me,” Shi Yu chimed in.
Yan Ci, who had been leaning silently in the corner, lifted his eyes. “AD.”
Jiang Si looked at Lin Cheng. “You take mid. I’ll go top.”
That filled every position. Everyone turned to Shen Qingrang.
Arms folded against the wall, he said calmly, “I don’t know how to play. Go ahead.”
Pei Jinye stared, then laughed. “Hahaha! Your day has finally come too, Qingrang! Out. Eliminated. Guys, we’re excluding him!”
The practice lineup was settled.
Jiang Si started the livestream on Wild7’s official account.
The camera mainly framed the five computers in the central row. Lin Cheng sensibly took the computer in the corner by herself.
Fans flooded in as soon as the stream went live.
[AAAAH W7 PLAYING ESPORTS! I’m losing it!]
[A Blaze collab?? Which side am I supposed to root for?]
[Pei Jinye jungle, Yan Ci AD! Both my favorites!]
[Wait, who’s mid?]
[It’s Lin Chen! Aaaaah our baby Chen is playing mid!]
[Hahaha where’s Shen Qingrang? Spectating?]
[Qingrang: I have been ostracized.jpg]
[Pei Jinye, that grin is way too smug. Tone it down!]
[My husband Yan Ci is playing AD. What did we do to deserve this day?]
The five selected their champions.
During the lull, Shen Qingrang silently crossed to the corner and stopped behind Lin Cheng’s gaming chair.
He bent down and lifted one side of her headset.
His breath brushed her ear. With a trace of hurt and stubbornness, he asked softly, “Why are you ignoring me, sweetheart?”
Startled, Lin Cheng instinctively moved the headset farther away, terrified the microphone would pick him up.
She turned and brought her lips close to his ear.
“I thought you loved playing mute…”
Shen Qingrang assumed she was blaming him for not explaining his situation sooner.
His gaze darkened. Taking her earlobe between his lips, he murmured, “My fault.”
“Then that night, why did you…” She meant to press him.
But before she could finish—
“Mm…”
Her warm, damp breath tickled deep inside Shen Qingrang’s ear. He wanted to kiss her.
So he did.
Lin Cheng’s eyes flew wide.
They were livestreaming!
Their teammates were only a few steps away!
Terrified, she instinctively tried to push him off, but he caught her hand and held it tight.
The tall back of the gaming chair concealed them completely.
“N-no, you can’t…” At last she pulled free, her eyes round. “They’re right behind us!” she stressed in a whisper.
Looking at her panic, Shen Qingrang spoke in a voice so husky it barely sounded like his own.
“I know. Just one kiss.”
Without her headset on, Lin Cheng heard Pei Jinye call, “Help me invade when we get in!”
She jolted and looked at her screen. It was still loading.
She hurriedly put her headset back on, only for her view to darken again.
Shen Qingrang’s hot breath washed over her face. He slowly cupped her chin and bent to kiss her. This time, he didn’t stop at a taste. He insistently parted her teeth and kissed her deeply, allowing no refusal.
Lin Cheng’s heart sped up. For two seconds, she even forgot to breathe.
Then Shi Yu’s faintly puzzled voice came through her headset.
“Huh? Who’s eating?”
Just as he stood to look, Shen Qingrang straightened and gazed at Lin Cheng’s screen, his expression perfectly ordinary.
Only Yan Ci, sitting across from them, had eyes frighteningly dark beneath his silver hair.
Lin Cheng raised her foot and kicked Shen Qingrang hard.
“You creep!”
The culprit took the kick without resentment and strolled back to the little sofa.
The game began.
Lin Cheng helped Pei Jinye pull off the invade, killed the enemy support, and returned to lane.
“Nice! Fucking awesome!”
Pei Jinye was diligently clearing his camps when a kill notification appeared at the top of the screen.
[Wild-LinC (Ahri) has slain Blaze-Ka (Zed).]
His mouse stalled. He almost hit Smite at the wrong time.
Hello??
A level-three solo kill?
What was going on?
He moved his camera to mid. Lin Cheng’s Ahri was retreating gracefully with half her health left, while the enemy Zed lay dead under his turret.
“Holy shit… Sheesh, you’re good.”
He ought to buy the little sissy a full set of skins as a reward.
Meanwhile, the livestream chat erupted.
[????]
[Does that Ahri E have an aimbot?]
[Am I seeing things? LinC solo-killed King Ka?]
[Are all rookies monsters now?]
[Ka got killed in lane at LEVEL THREE? I’m losing my mind!]
[Mom asked why I’m watching this stream on my knees!]
[Came over from the other stream. King Ka’s about to smash his keyboard.]
At level four, Pei Jinye thought he would hover nearby and help set up a gank.
He had just reached the river brush when Lin Cheng’s cool voice sounded in his headset.
“Don’t come mid.”
“…Huh?”
“I don’t need a gank. Don’t leech my XP.”
Pei Jinye: …T_T
His Nunu stood there for two seconds, then turned dejectedly back into the jungle.
Sob. She didn’t want him.
Five and a half minutes in, the two mid laners were nearing level five.
Lin Cheng used Ahri’s Charm to disrupt Ka’s last-hitting on Zed, causing him to miss the experience from a minion.
She reached level six first.
The instant she leveled up, she dove under his turret without hesitation, applied Ignite, and killed Ka with a full combo.
“Beautiful!”
Jiang Si had moved his camera over in time to watch it all. His cool voice carried approval through her headset.
“Your XP tracking is precise.”
“Mm. I’m counting the minions,” Lin Cheng replied calmly.
[????]
[I can’t even count minion XP against bots!]
[Is King Ka being treated like a bot?]
[A minute of silence from the Blaze fans…]
[Wild7 just found a nuclear weapon!]
[As of today, I’ve been a LinC fan for ten years!]
But the good times didn’t last.
By the midgame, top and mid were ahead, but bot lane and the jungle were falling behind.
The enemy Lee Sin kept stealing Pei Jinye’s camps. Furious, he started cursing in voice chat.
“Go on, steal one more fucking camp. I dare you!”
As he steered Nunu and his snowball, he added, “I’m gonna shove you into the fucking river.”
In front of a game, Lin Cheng’s whole manner became composed. She delivered her answer with steady assurance.
“It’s fine.”
“Hold on. I’ll carry.”
