Demonic King of the Metropolis - Chapter 57 - Delivering Herb in the Snow Part 2
In the living room, Chen Jiankai and Wang Qianya sat facing each other.
“Are you the friend who helped the Chen family, the one Tang mentioned?”
“Uncle Chen, you’re being too generous. I only lent a hand, and moreover, I’m classmates with Chen Shuran. Of course, I couldn’t just stand by and do nothing,” Wang Qianya said confidently, her words appropriate and displaying the grace of a wealthy young lady.
Chen Jiankai compared Wang Qianya to Chen Shuran and realized that she seemed to be every bit as capable as Chen Shuran. The most important difference was that this girl was mature and composed, speaking and behaving gracefully.
All of this was something that the carefree Chen Shuran lacked.
“So, you’re classmates with my daughter? Well, you should come over more often. Shuran could use a friend as outstanding as you.”
“Uncle Chen, you’re joking. I’m not particularly talented; you might be overestimating me,” Wang Qianya replied gracefully, a warm smile on her face throughout the conversation.
At this point, Chen Jiankai couldn’t help but sigh internally. As the chairman of a group, he naturally had many young and beautiful female employees, yet even their company’s image ambassador fell short compared to this girl in front of him.
In terms of appearance, demeanor, and the aura they exuded, none of the female employees in his company could compare to her. The only one who could rival her might be Chen Shuran, but she was inherently proud, had a carefree manner, and spoke without much thought, which left her lacking compared to this girl.
Just as the two were conversing, Uncle Zhao rushed into the room. Upon entering, he immediately addressed Chen Jiankai, saying, “Mr. Chen, as you suspected, someone is indeed sabotaging the snow lotus supply. I’ve checked with the suppliers, and they said that a major client suddenly bought out all the snow lotus yesterday.”
“Hmph, I knew it,” Chen Jiankai huffed, scanning the outside through the window before turning to Uncle Zhao and instructing, “Zhao, keep inquiring and find out who has the audacity to do this.”
“Got it,” Uncle Zhao replied and quickly ran back outside.
“Uncle Chen,” Wang Qianya couldn’t help but speak up.
“Hmm?” Chen Jiankai looked at Wang Qianya for a moment, and after a sigh inwardly, he slowly said, “But I don’t know how to address you!”
“My name is Wang Qianya…”
“That’s a nice name!” Before Wang Qianya could finish, Chen Jiankai praised her. His words brought a hint of embarrassment to Wang Qianya’s face; however, having been through many situations in her family, she was not easily shaken.
After just a moment of shyness, Wang Qianya regained her calm smile, which seemed neither too close nor too distant, providing a particularly comfortable impression.
At that moment, Tang Jie gently pushed open the door, holding a white pill shimmering with a faint glow, and quietly walked toward Chen Jiankai and Wang Qianya in the living room.
“Tang, is the pill ready?” Chen Jiankai quickly stood up and strode toward Tang Jie.
Tang Jie gently handed the pill to Chen Jiankai, saying, “Uncle Chen, quickly, let Miss Chen take it.”
Chen Jiankai noticed Tang Jie’s fatigue but didn’t prolong the conversation. He turned and walked toward the distant room.
After everything was done, Tang Jie wearily sat down on the sofa. The real reason for his exhaustion wasn’t the whole night spent catching insects or the quick drive to collect the snow lotus.
It was because, while concocting the pill, he had infused it entirely with his own true qi to speed up the process. This allowed him to complete the pill in less than half an hour, whereas normally, it would take at least an entire day to concoct such a pill, even though it wasn’t particularly difficult.
Tang Jie sat on the sofa, staring blankly at the ceiling, while Wang Qianya quietly stood up beside him.
“Tang Jie? Since there’s nothing else, I’ll take my leave now.”
Hearing Wang Qianya’s voice, Tang Jie wearily turned his head. After making eye contact, he heavily nodded his head in acknowledgment.
In truth, it was enough. Wang Qianya coming to the Chen’s villa and spending so much time with Tang Jie spoke volumes, considering the weight that an ancient martial arts family holds is far beyond that of mere business magnates.
“Wait a minute.” Just as Wang Qianya was about to leave, Tang Jie suddenly called out.
“Oh, is there anything else?”
“No, nothing. I just wanted to say thank you.” Tang Jie sincerely looked in Wang Qianya’s direction. Despite his relaxed demeanor, he couldn’t hide the overwhelming fatigue he felt.
Once Wang Qianya left, Tang Jie could no longer hold on and collapsed onto the sofa, falling fast asleep.
Uncle Zhao silently walked past the sofa, his brow slightly furrowed as he murmured, “What a tragedy, letting Tang Jie get this exhausted.” As he spoke, he took a blanket from another room and covered it over Tang Jie.
In the room, Chen Shuran was occasionally twitching as the medication took effect, moving restlessly from time to time. However, according to Uncle Zhao’s diagnosis, her condition was gradually improving, which was why Chen Jiankai hadn’t disturbed the soundly sleeping Tang Jie.
The whole family was busy, and Chen Jiankai had completely forgotten about the matters concerning his company. As for the person who had bought up the snow lotus to cause trouble yesterday, Uncle Zhao had already figured it out, but he hadn’t informed Chen Jiankai.
That person was Wang Dachao, who had anticipated the need for an antidote to the toxin he was planning to concoct. So he had preemptively bought up all the snow lotus in the city.
Meanwhile, Wang Dachao was leisurely sitting on the sofa in his villa, watching two blonde beauties twirl around him.
“You’re such a bad boy, young master.” After Wang Dachao groped one of the beauties, she let out a playful squeal but intentionally pushed her chest closer toward him.
Wang Shiwen, who was nearby, chuckled at the scene. But unlike Wang Dachao, he generally avoided such superficial women. Over the past three years of pursuing Chen Shuran, Wang Shiwen had not looked for any other woman.
He believed that his family background and his unwavering affection would eventually win Chen Shuran over, but he realized that she remained indifferent toward him. Although Chen Shuran didn’t dislike him, Wang Shiwen felt truly frustrated with the lack of progress in their relationship.
He hadn’t given up; he kept pursuing her right up until they were about to graduate high school.
But why did this other person have to show up? Why did Tang Jie have to appear? Just thinking about Tang Jie caused Wang Shiwen to grind his teeth, and his mind filled with all sorts of malicious scenarios.
To be honest, he had come up with at least a thousand ways to eliminate Tang Jie.
