Demonic King of the Metropolis - Chapter 56 - Delivering Herb in the Snow Part 1
Suddenly, a small, quick silhouette darted past. By the time Tang Jie opened his eyes again, the girl had already disappeared several meters away, and standing next to him was another girl with a cold expression.
Tang Jie felt a surge of joy in his heart when he realized that the one who saved that girl was Wang Qianya. He quickly steadied the car and waved to her.
Seeing that the person who had caused the accident was Tang Jie, Wang Qianya frowned. She glanced at him before briskly walking over.
“What on earth are you doing? Can’t you see this is a school?” Wang Qianya said sharply as she reached Tang Jie.
Tang Jie awkwardly scratched his head, then leaned in closer to Wang Qianya’s ear and whispered, “Please help me with this situation; I really need to go. Someone is waiting for me to save them.”
After saying that, he didn’t wait for Wang Qianya’s response and yanked open the car door, starting the vehicle.
Wang Qianya stood in front of Tang Jie’s car, her eyes fixed intently on him.
“I really have something urgent. Please move aside,” Tang Jie said, feeling both anxious and angry at her actions.
Wang Qianya narrowed her brows and slowly approached the car. She looked at Tang Jie’s profile and asked, “What exactly is the matter? If you don’t tell me, how do you expect me to know if I can help?”
“You can help me?” Hearing this, Tang Jie’s anger lessened a bit. He looked at Wang Qianya and gestured for her to get in the car. As for the girl who had almost been hit by the car, she seemed to have lost interest in pursuing Tang Jie as her savior got into the vehicle.
With a loud roar, the engine came to life. Although Wang Qianya claimed she could help him, Tang Jie still held little hope as he drove quickly into the distance.
“Alright, tell me, what is the matter?” Wang Qianya broke the silence first.
“I’m looking for a medicinal herb, but I can’t find it anywhere in the city. Someone is waiting for me to save them!”
“What kind of herb is so precious?” Wang Qianya asked, frowning again, her expression shifting to one of understanding.
Tang Jie, while anxiously increasing the car’s speed and keeping a close eye on the road ahead and the side mirrors, said, “Actually, the herb isn’t that rare; it’s just very special. It has to be a snow lotus picked within ten days.”
“I see! I think I might have one,” Wang Qianya replied casually, her expression light.
Suddenly, a long screech pierced the air as Uncle Zhao’s car, having been toyed with by Tang Jie, spewed black smoke from its tires as if they were on fire.
Then, a deafening roar came from inside the car.
“What? Did you say you have one? Why didn’t you say so earlier?” Tang Jie was ecstatic, completely forgetting his surroundings. He grabbed Wang Qianya and planted a kiss on her cheek.
“What are you doing?” Pushing Tang Jie away, Wang Qianya quickly wiped her face with her sleeve, scolding him.
Seeing her reaction, Tang Jie awkwardly scratched his head and quickly released her.
“I’m really sorry. You know how excited I get. Please don’t take it to heart!”
Wang Qianya couldn’t help but chuckle at Tang Jie’s embarrassed apology before adopting a mock-serious tone. “You, daring to be so forward with your older sister! After this is over, you’re going to have to face my punishment.”
“Okay, okay! However you want to punish me is fine; just hurry and take me to get the snow lotus!” Tang Jie responded eagerly.
“Sure, but you need to tell me what you want the snow lotus for,” Wang Qianya said as she studied Tang Jie.
Hearing this, Tang Jie’s tense heart finally settled. He nodded and adjusted himself in the seat.
Once the engine’s roar subsided, he explained, “Here’s the thing: Yesterday, Chen Shuran and I were ambushed by several ancient martial arts masters after school. I managed to escape with my life, but one of those guys fired a poison dart at Chen Shuran.”
“Are you saying Chen Shuran was poisoned? How serious is it?”
“It’s very serious. If I hadn’t arrived in time, she could have been in grave danger. You know my mission…”
“Yes, I know your mission is to protect Chen Shuran. Now, let’s hurry to get the snow lotus,” Wang Qianya said, no longer distracting Tang Jie as he drove. She turned her gaze out the window to enjoy the scenery.
Half an hour later, the car came to a smooth stop in front of a modest apartment building. The apartment didn’t exude luxury but had an air of elegance about it. Tang Jie knew who Wang Qianya was, and he understood why she hadn’t chosen a high-end villa-she preferred to keep things low-key.
Wang Qianya quickly opened the car door and dashed up to the third floor. Within moments, the sound of a door opening and shutting echoed, and Wang Qianya reappeared in front of Tang Jie.
The entire process took only a few seconds, to the point where Tang Jie didn’t even turn off the engine before she jumped back into the car. Not wanting to waste any more time, he also decided to forego further discussion. Being ancient martial artists, they both understood the urgency of the situation.
The car sped along, and soon they arrived at Chen’s villa. Inside, Chen Jiankai was already awake and anxiously making phone calls, though he was getting no results. Finally, in frustration, he slammed the phone down and cursed under his breath.
“Uncle Chen,” Tang Jie called out, and Chen Jiankai, who had been pacing back and forth on the sofa, quickly stood up, eyes locked onto Tang Jie.
“Hey, Tang, did you find the medicinal herbs?”
“Yes, Uncle Chen, don’t worry. I had a friend help me, and I managed to get the herb,” Tang Jie replied, partially opening his pocket to reveal the sealed snow lotus inside.
Chen Jiankai’s eyes lit up with joy, and tears even welled up. Seeing this, Tang Jie felt a pang of sympathy. He had never truly experienced a father’s love and didn’t know what it felt like. Yet, witnessing someone care for another so dearly stirred something in his heart.
Tang Jie asked Chen Jiankai for a quiet room, and once he received it, he went inside alone. Using the same method as before, he began tossing several medicinal herbs into a boiling pot one by one.
