Demonic King of the Metropolis - Chapter 55 - Poison Dart Part 2
“Uncle Zhao, Uncle Chen, today’s events were too sudden. I risked everything just to escape, and now I’m bringing Miss Chen back to you safely.” Tang Jie said wearily as he got out of the car, glancing at Chen Jiankai.
Chen Jiankai nodded and slowly walked down the stairs. He touched Chen Shuran’s forehead, and the moment he did, his brow furrowed deeply.
“That’s not right, Tang. Why is this girl running such a high fever?”
Upon hearing this, Tang Jie quickly placed his hand on Chen Shuran’s forehead. The heat was overwhelming, and he frowned as he hurriedly checked her pulse.
With this, Uncle Zhao and Chen Jiankai grew even more anxious. They looked at Tang Jie, saying, “What’s going on with her? Just tell us!”
“Not good.” Tang Jie said only two words before swiftly flipping Chen Shuran over, revealing the dart lodged in her back.
The dart had pierced through the glass and gone through the backs of two seats, firmly embedded in Chen Shuran’s back-an act even Tang Jie could hardly achieve.
Tang Jie felt a surge of urgency. He glanced at Chen Shuran’s face, checked her pulse again, and then sniffed the blood that stained her back. He urgently addressed Chen Jiankai, saying, “Uncle Chen, Miss Chen has been poisoned. You need to take her back and clean the wound. I’ll rush out tonight to find the medicinal herbs.”
Tang Jie’s brow was deeply furrowed. Uncle Zhao, who understood Tang Jie’s skills, also frowned heavily at his demeanor.
Without saying a word, Uncle Zhao scooped up Chen Shuran and hurried towards the villa. Tang Jie looked increasingly anxious. He steadied his racing heart and turned back to Chen Jiankai, saying, “Uncle Chen, I’ll write down the names of the herbs for you. Please help me search for them as well.”
“Alright, Tang, just tell me. Even if it costs everything, I will get those herbs.”
“No, Uncle Chen, these herbs aren’t very valuable, but they are hard to find, and I can’t guarantee I’ll be able to locate them.” Tang Jie said with difficulty, quickly writing the names of dozens of herbs on a piece of white paper.
These herbs were all common and little-known types, some even involving specific kinds of insects that could only be found in particular environments.
Tang Jie finished writing down the list of medicinal herbs and prepared to leave. He also saved Chen Jiankai’s phone number so they could stay in touch while he searched for the herbs overnight.
Tang Jie was certain of the poison that Chen Shuran had been affected by. It was quite common, often used among ancient martial artists. He had specifically noted this poison during his master’s lectures.
He had even taken the time to concoct an antidote for this particular poison, which allowed him to confidently identify the necessary medicinal herbs.
If it weren’t for that knowledge, Tang Jie would likely be frantically seeking his master’s help rather than looking for herbs.
Throughout the night, Tang Jie and the Chen family were busy. By dawn, they had gathered nearly ten herbs, but they still hadn’t found the main ingredient.
The main herb was incredibly elusive. One of the required components was a specific type of insect that lived hidden away and only came out to move around at night without any restrictions to its range.
This insect was notoriously difficult to find. Generally, its medicinal uses weren’t very high, but for the snow lotus pill Tang Jie needed to concoct, this insect was the key ingredient.
As its name suggests, the snow lotus pill contains snow lotus, but this particular snow lotus is different from the regular one. It cannot be older than ten days and must be kept in perfect condition.
Thus, the challenge in finding these medicinal herbs lay not in their rarity but in their specific requirements.
As dawn broke, Tang Jie had searched the entire city throughout the night and nearly lost his way. Fortunately, he had an excellent sense of direction; he could remember the general route he had taken. So after a long night, he calmly found his way back.
The snow lotus pill required three types of insects, one of which uses a bat as a guide, another uses a type of moth, and one using that light-loving insect. These few ingredients had consumed almost his entire night.
When he finally gathered all the herbs and returned to the villa, he discovered it was already past eight in the morning.
“Tang is back? How did it go? Did you manage to find all the medicinal herbs?” Uncle Zhao greeted him as soon as he walked in.
Tang Jie shook his head and glanced over at Chen Jiankai, who was napping on the sofa. “I’ve found three of the herbs, but I’m not sure if Uncle Chen has secured the snow lotus yet.”
“Oh, I was just about to talk to you about that. It’s tough to find snow lotus these days. I asked several shops that specialize in selling it, but the ones they have are all at least half a month old. There’s nothing younger than ten days,” Uncle Zhao explained.
“This is unacceptable! Those old snow lotuses won’t do at all. You all need to keep looking! Miss Chen’s condition is critical, and if we don’t treat the poison soon, we might run out of time,” Tang Jie said anxiously. His heart raced with urgency.
This time, Tang Jie was truly in a hurry, even he wasn’t sure what was driving his urgency. Ignoring Uncle Zhao’s surprised expression, he dashed out the door.
“Uncle Zhao, I need to borrow your car! I’ll return it as soon as I’m done,” Tang Jie exclaimed. He suddenly thought of a place: Niutou Mountain. It was quite far from here, requiring at least four hours to reach.
However, if Tang Jie pushed the car to its limits, he could potentially make it back in two hours. This was his last hope. He jumped into Uncle Zhao’s car and quickly started the engine.
As soon as he was out of the driveway, Tang Jie accelerated to maximum speed, disregarding the stoplights and any traffic regulations. He went straight through intersections as long as there were no cars in his way.
In less than ten minutes, he had raced down several streets, heading toward a location where he had previously carried out missions. It was at least four hundred kilometers away, roughly the radius of an entire province.
Yet, despite this considerable distance, it had become Tang Jie’s only hope. Provided he encountered no unexpected delays, he was determined to return in time to save Chen Shuran before it was too late.
However, just as he was passing by the school, a group of students suddenly appeared in the middle of the road. Tang Jie was traveling too fast, and he couldn’t react in time.
The sound of screeching tires filled the air, but he still couldn’t bring the car to a smooth stop.
In horror, he watched as the car slowly approached a girl, the collision imminent. Tang Jie’s heart raced with panic, but he felt powerless to stop it.
