Chapter 9
Watching Shi Wan Ju’s retreating back, Jiang Ciyue felt a sense of panic for the first time in his life.
It was as if she was drifting further and further away from him.
It was strange. He supposedly didn’t love Shi Wan Ju-in fact, he thought he hated her-yet he couldn’t accept her request for a divorce.
At first, he thought it was just his pride, that he couldn’t tolerate being left by the person who had always chased him.
But just now, when he saw her with Su He, how could he explain the volcanic eruption of rage he felt?
He drove aimlessly through the streets, his mind replaying memories of them together.
He truly had seen her as a little sister before.
She was adorable, like a mischievous pixie, always making him laugh.
He liked her, but not in a romantic way.
The type he loved was someone dazzling and vibrant like Sang Xia.
Sang Xia was beautiful, and she had a temper.
Their relationship had been a constant cycle of arguments and breakups.
The last time Sang Xia had broken up with him, Jiang Ciyue had gotten blackout drunk at a bar.
Shi Wan Ju, worried about him, had stayed to keep him company.
She couldn’t drink, so she only had orange juice.
That night, they were drugged and ended up sleeping together.
When he woke up the next morning, he was filled with regret.
He was still in love with Sang Xia then and had hoped they would reconcile.
But he had slept with Shi Wan Ju, and reporters had taken photos, splashing it all over the news.
Shi Wan Ju’s reputation was ruined. Her parents came to his family, demanding he take responsibility.
Jiang Ciyue’s parents had always been fond of Wan Ju, so they readily agreed.
He was cornered.
But he was the one who had done it.
Shi Wan Ju was also a victim, so he couldn’t blame her. In the end, he had to compromise.
To spare her any guilt, he even lied and told her he was marrying her willingly.
He tried so hard to make everyone happy.
While they were planning the wedding, Sang Xia had come back, asking to get back together.
He was still in love with her, but he had to cruelly reject her.
Sang Xia had cried and threatened him, “If you insist on marrying her, then I’ll marry someone else and make you regret it for the rest of your life!”
She was true to her word. Before his wedding, she married someone else.
Jiang Ciyue was heartbroken, but there was nothing he could do.
He had made a mistake, and the price was not being able to be with the woman he loved. He deserved it; he had no one else to blame.
But on his wedding day, his assistant told him he had found the person who drugged them at the bar-it was the cousin of the Shi family’s butler.
There could only be one explanation: Shi Wan Ju had set him up.
The realization that he had been deceived sent Jiang Ciyue into a blind rage.
But what was done was done. He couldn’t call off the wedding. He had to accept his fate.
However, every time he thought about how Shi Wan Ju had caused him to lose Sang Xia, he was consumed by a deep-seated hatred for her.
Even later, after his love for Sang Xia faded with time, his disgust for Shi Wan Ju remained.
