Chapter 7
Qu Yi’s friends had been enjoying the show.
It was only when they realized things were going wrong that they panicked, afraid they’d actually have a death on their hands, and hurriedly pulled me out.
I was rushed to the hospital, where I remained unconscious for a full 24 hours.
Not long after I woke up, the door to my room was pushed open.
It was Jiang Ciyue.
His eyes were filled with mockery. He sneered, “You don’t actually think that by pretending to be sick and playing the victim in a hospital bed, I’ll just forget about you pushing Yi Yi into the water, do you?”
He almost had me killed, and he still wasn’t satisfied.
Just how much did he hate me?
Did I really have to die before he would finally let it go?
When pain reaches its peak, it turns to numbness. My heart felt like a dead weight in my chest, and I had no desire left to argue.
My voice was hoarse. “Jiang Ciyue, let’s get a divorce.”
He probably didn’t expect me to bring it up. His expression froze. “What did you say?”
I repeated myself firmly. “I said, let’s get a divorce.”
He heard me clearly this time.
In an instant, a storm of emotions churned in his dark eyes.
There was shock, confusion, but most of all, there was anger.
He kicked over a chair, and it crashed to the floor with a deafening noise.
His chest heaved as he glared at me, his voice a low growl. “Shi Wan Ju, you were the one who used every dirty trick to force me into this marriage, and now you’re the one demanding a divorce.”
“What do you take me for?”
I didn’t understand why he was so agitated.
I was making way for Qu Yi, allowing them to be together openly. Shouldn’t he be happy?
“If we divorce, you can marry Qu Yi. Isn’t that better? Or do you want her to be your mistress forever?”
Jiang Ciyue’s face was dark, his voice hard. “My business with Qu Yi is none of your concern!”
“All you need to remember is that you have no right to ask me for a divorce!”
He was being completely irrational.
I couldn’t be bothered to argue anymore.
Three days later, as soon as I was discharged from the hospital, I had a lawyer draft a divorce agreement.
Considering Jiang Ciyue’s infidelity, I proposed a 70/30 split of assets in my favor.
But the moment the agreement was delivered to him, he tore it to shreds.
I wanted to resolve this quickly, so I was willing to compromise.
“If you’re not happy with the asset division, we can do 60/40.”
His eyes were heavy with gloom, his jawline so tight it was a straight line. “I already told you, I am not agreeing to a divorce.”
I thought long and hard about why he was so unwilling, and I could only come up with one reason-
For all these years, I was the one chasing him. He was used to being pursued, and his ego couldn’t handle me being the first one to walk away.
So, I tried a different approach.
“Then just pretend I never mentioned it. You can be the one to initiate it. You’re the one who doesn’t want me anymore.”
“You can even tell the media that you fell out of love with me, that I’m the one being dumped.”
As long as I could get a divorce, I didn’t care if people called me a “cast-off trophy wife.”
But my concession didn’t improve his mood.
In fact, his face grew even darker, and he looked like he was grinding his teeth.
“Shi Wan Ju, you can forget it. I will never divorce you!”
