Deadly Affection: My Husband Wants Me Dead - Chapter 14
Our roles had been reversed.
Now, he was the one desperately clinging on.
And I felt nothing for him but disgust and annoyance.
The lunches he sent, I gave to the homeless.
The flowers he sent, I gave to the cleaning lady.
The luxury car he sent, I immediately listed on a used car website.
The jewelry and jade he sent, I took straight to the pawnshop.
He asked me, dejected, “Wan Ju, what do I have to do for you to forgive me?”
He told me he was sorry over and over. He told me he loved me.
He humbly begged me to give him a chance.
He said he would love me, cherish me, and protect me from now on, that he would never hurt me again.
I found it ironic. I scoffed, “Is your love supposed to be some precious treasure? Just stay away from me. Stop making me sick.”
His expression fell. He looked at me with broken eyes, his voice trembling. “Is there really no chance at all? I’ll do anything if you’ll just forgive me.”
I didn’t take him seriously. “Does that include dying?” I said flippantly. “If you die, I’ll consider forgiving you.”
He lowered his gaze, his voice filled with sorrow. “Do you really hate me that much?”
I rolled my eyes. “Obviously. Do you even need to ask?”
“You, of all people, should know how annoying it is to be pestered by someone you find disgusting, right?”
His eyes were alarmingly red, and a tear rolled down his cheek. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have called you disgusting.”
“I didn’t know the truth then, and I didn’t know my own heart.”
“It won’t happen again, I swear it won’t…”
I laughed, unconcerned. “It doesn’t matter. We don’t have a future anyway.”
After that day, Jiang Ciyue didn’t bother me for a long time.
Because he was in a car accident.
That night, after I kicked him out, he had drowned his sorrows in alcohol and crashed his car.
I heard his injuries were severe, that he would likely never walk again.
I didn’t see him again until three months later, after he was discharged from the hospital.
He was in a wheelchair, a shadow of his former confident self. He looked worn down, and his voice was laced with a palpable sadness.
“When I was whole, you wouldn’t forgive me. Now that I’m like this…” he trailed off.
I smirked. “You know the answer, so don’t ask. Do you enjoy humiliating yourself?”
He gave a bitter smile.
“Wan Ju, I agree to the divorce.”
“Since I can no longer give you happiness, I shouldn’t stand in the way of your future.”
