Chapter 2
Chapter 2
When I was seven years old, I finally understood those lines of black text that appeared from time to time.
As it turned out, I was born into a story with a predetermined plot.
I was merely a bit player, a piece of cannon fodder who only had a name.
And my brother was the tragic, handsome antagonist destined for a dark transformation-Huo Silü.
[Huo Silü is too withdrawn.]
[His mother died early, and his father only cares about giving him money. His only younger sister is a complete stranger to him.]
[He’s too starved for affection. No one loves him or cares about him.]
[Growing up in such an oppressive environment, it would be strange if he didn’t turn into a psychopath.]
[That’s why when Huo Silü meets the female lead later, he’ll be captivated by a tiny bit of her concern and fall hopelessly in love with her.]
[But our female lead is just naturally kind; she’d stop and look twice at a stray puppy on the side of the road.]
[The female lead doesn’t like Huo Silü at all; of course, she only loves the male lead.]
[So, because Huo Silü can’t have what he wants, he starts his dark descent into madness.]
[But a villain is a villain.]
[He fights the male lead for the girl and opposes him at every turn. Naturally, he won’t come to a good end.]
After understanding the content of those words, I cried a long, sad heart out.
I didn’t want my brother to die.
That year, my brother had already started university.
Perhaps because I was so clingy, following him step for step, my brother didn’t choose to go abroad.
Instead, he attended a top-three university right here in the city.
My brother was incredibly smart.
During his high school years, I spent every day following him around like a lost puppy, clutching my baby bottle. Because of me, he couldn’t go to rowdy bars or smoke-filled pool halls. He even had to schedule his street fights around my nap times.
Consequently, he spent most of his time at home, bored, flipping through books and studying while watching over me.
When the college entrance exams finally came, he-a delinquent who had been disciplined frequently-actually scored in the top three of the entire school.
At the time, the school leadership even wanted to invite him back to give a speech.
My brother rolled up his sleeve, revealing the exaggerated tattoo on his right arm. “Are you sure?” he asked the administrators provocatively. “Aren’t you afraid I’ll corrupt your good students?”
I stood at the school gates, crying for a long time as I looked at those floating words.
Eventually, a black sports car pulled up in front of me.
Someone pushed the door open and stepped out. “Is it really that serious?”
My brother leaned over, looking at me with confusion. “I was only ten minutes late to pick you up.”
He said, “Is it really worth crying like this?”
Seeing my brother made my tears flow even harder.
Subconsciously, I stood on my tiptoes and threw my arms around his neck.
“Brother, I missed you,” I said.
Those words said my brother was unloved and starved for affection. They said that because he received a tiny bit of casual tenderness from the female lead, he would drown in it, unable to pull himself out.
But it wasn’t true that no one loved him.
I had to let my brother know that I loved him too.
His sister loved him very, very much.
My brother picked me up with one hand. His expression was a sort of helpless numbness.
He even lifted his arm to glance at the expensive steel watch on his wrist. “I just dropped you off at school at nine this morning.”
He said, “I even skipped a class just to drop you off.”
“It’s only 5:10 now,” he said, gesturing for me to look at the watch. “And you miss me this much already?”
I nodded through my tear-blurred vision, grabbing his custom-made shirt to wipe my eyes.
My brother looked down, studying my face. “Did someone bully you at school?”
I didn’t know how my brother’s train of thought had jumped there. I just shook my head quickly. “No one bullied me.”
I said, “The teachers all say I’m a good student.”
My brother gave a snort of laughter and carried me toward the car.
As he walked, he said, “Is that so? Then I’ll ask your teachers about that tomorrow.”
